i think the guys and gals that are at a pro level or scratch probably started golf as a preteenager and it became almost instinctive for them. where most of us took it up at a later age and it is harder to learn. i say this based on baseball and hockey that i started playing when i was about 4 or 5 years old and used to be good at. i took up golf at 30 years old and now i'm 74 years old and have been a 13 hdcp. for 30 years and i guess that is as good as it's gonna get but i'm always trying.

In golf......treat your arms like best friends. Don't let them get too far away from you..... I assume you're trying to square the face on the downswing through body rotation. On downswing your arms, hands and club separate from your body rotation forcing you throw the arms and hands at the ball to square the face. One way I say that is you're chasing the flight line with your arms, hands and club. Instead of them rotating left following the rotation of the torso to the left. The origin of your downswing should be from the center of the body outward to the club head. Which will keep you on the inside half of the ball on the downswing. It drew it left cuz you were on the outside half of the ball and the downswing because you nipped at it with your right handed impact trying to save it. Again, you got to marry your arms, hands and club with your rotation of your torso on the downswing through impact.

I watch Saguto and recently took some lessons with Jess Frank as a 62 year who just recovered from injury both them are excellent teachers and they simplify the swing whereas conventional teachers record speak for themselves amateur golfers generally do not improve

Lets have a match and see who wins. I like metrics like anyone else but the way he teaches a simple swing works and probably works for a high percentage of people out there. It is true that with the lead foot being planted i hit the same spot on the ground way more consistently. While I may lose some power Im ok with that because my shots are more pure. I am just trying to have some fun and not break some clubs in the process. I mean while golf is hard its not my job I and I dont think you need a degree to be decent. I play for fun. lol

Yes, compared to a classic/modern swing, they and the tens of thousands that they teach, each one of them are on their same club shaft swing plane from address through impact. And for the most part, they all strive to STABALIZE/LIMIT the range of motion of their swing with the goal that stabilization (elimination of variables) produces straighter, more consistent golf shots. Regardless of anyone's belief of the Single Plane Swing concepts or technique, there is little to argue about their demonstrated results - no more wild hooks, etc. That said, modifying swing habits with limitations usually seem unnatural and require effort - there are no free lunches. And in order to get your spine at a whopping 45 degree angle requires the golfer to stand *MUCH* FURTHER away from the ball, you'll need to either refit your clubs or at least have 1+ inch inserts added to accommodate the new swing plane. In fact, Dechambeau had all his irons lengthened a few inches and all have the same identical length. Happy golf trails. Michael

with regards to your comments on his arm pit location to mid feet and hands to feet, i don't agree. You neglect the build of the player. If a player has shorter legs and a longer upper torso, they would tend to stand farther from the ball and one with long legs and short upper torso would tend to stand closer.

You're trying to be too technical and therefore too complicated, the same as Clay Ballard. Saguto keeps it simple which makes it easier for the AVERAGE amateur golfer to understand and improve. All the crap you espouse happens automatically when the swing is kept simple. It's people like you, who over complicate the golf swing that actually PREVENT the average golfer from improving. Just follow the acronym KISS ( keep it simple stupid). Since I started following Saguto's methods around 3 months ago my ball striking has become more consistent AND I've gained yardage. Back in the day I was a single figure handicap and after a long break from the game I fell into all the old bad habits I had before reaching a single digit handicap. Now here's the thing, since I've started following Saguto's methods I'm starting to remember that this was what I used to do all those years ago, and it was an old scotsman who taught me the very same methods that Saguto teaches now. That old scotsman learned the game on the toughest links courses in Scotland and played to a scratch hcp right handed and a 1 hcp left handed. So I'm more inclined to revert to what I was taught way back when and what Saguto teaches now than listen to your drivel. Also as per an earlier poster, instead of criticising another instructor's methods why don't you show us your method. If you're not prepared to do that then keep your big mouth shut and get off of UA-cam.

Plus if you want to critique a portion of a book, don't say "not sure what it exactly says cause I don't have the book with me". Get your facts together. You sound like a politician, talking about his opponents. I'm not gonna finish watching...

Most older golfers have lost flexibility so some of the suggestions you have made are impossible to time correctly , what I have picked up from Saguto is straightened arms and centering over the ball which has helped my damaged back allowing me to play with what I have without discomfort after 18 holes .

I was a terrible batter in baseball, and I see I was "single planing" the bat. Kinda, like flicking the bat across my body. Instead, of the "classic" correct swing. What is "natural" for us hackers (I've been doing it for 30 plus years searching for the perfect swing) is the "natural tendency" to swing the shoulder around the spine like a top or a pinball flipper. I have inadvertently done this SP style swing in the past. This is how I did it, and it does work. a.) Straighten the club, hands, arms and to your chin. b.) Then look down like a rifle sight. c.) Then hold your spine & head like an axle. d.) Then twist your shoulder, hips back. e.) Then untwist. It works but it's not a true swing that delivers maximum power. However, I eventually I evolved out of it. Something did not feel right. In tennis there is a swing called a slice vs true backhand. It is a short chopping(one plane) swing that get's to the ball quickly. However, it lacks power and it is limited. That's the difference. Also, this type of swing really needs a different kind of club head design. All the offset faces and angles of the modern woods and irons work against the simple SP swing. The clubs need to be more shaped symmetrical like a ball.

I suck as a golfer, so I have nothing to add really. I do love Tom's sound on his full swings. One thing is certain, it's not just one thing that gets an amateur golfer striping balls, otherwise I would be stripping balls. There is a lot of good things Tom does in his swing and I would love to have any semblance of a swing like that even if it is imperfect or not exactly like Hogan's. Not sure anyone has nailed his swing exactly anyways, we all have our own swing. Tom is essentially teaching stack and tilt and it's at least worth a try as an amateur without getting bogged down in too many details. My swing sucks dirt though at the moment and no video anywhere has been able to help me out. Just too many things that are out of wack.

the problem with most golf videos is they are too complicated and technical. Saguto keeps it simple enough so that you can actually replicate what he is saying and doing, his goal isn't to turn us into Tiger Woods, it's to make us amateurs competent and consistent. all i can tell you is that i've improved tremendously by watching his videos.

It's about RELEASE!!!! If you release early you hook. Late and you push the ball. If you rotate your right forearm in the downswing the ball goes straight. Do your homework people!

  • @gwyncall7357
    @gwyncall7357 8 місяців тому

Do the research before you start putting down Hogan's swing! The modern swing uses hogan's principles extensively. He could draw the ball at will with his release! He just choose not too! Yes he found a way to take the hook and pulls away completely but if you listen to the players of that era they also say he could create any shot he wanted with how he released with his hands. Every amateur player can benefit from his principles! Every pro since him says he had one of, if not the best, golf swing ever!

I have dabbled with this and it does have some good parts to it, it helped me to keeps hands in and club out, but the downside for me is that managed to get the club "stuck" on the way down and too far from the inside, struggled with low point etc. So I pursued it for a bit but for me, dead end.

As Brendan “got” the concepts he moved to the next step… Dr. Kwon constantly uses video feedback. Watch one of his 4 hour sessions. Brendan heavily edited this post so he could use the full session on his site to sign up subscriptions for his Be Better Golf channel…Loved your analysis by the way.

All conventional swings go from low shaft to high shaft from address to impact. Single plane stands further from the ball to literally address on the same impact plane. Single plane then assumes the particular address (namely sidebend, straight legs, club to body alignment) due to being further from the ball at address the lower body action is different moving down into the knee, not posting up the lead leg to clear rotation because the conventional golfer stands too close to the impact plane.

I'm not a Saguto fan. I have watched some of his videos and most of the time I'm left thinking why did I watch that. I'm a firm believer in trying to replicate what the best in the business do and use the training aids they use. Personally I think golf instruction spends to little time on the shortgame and the importance of it to lowering your score. When your livelyhood depends on your score you look for any possible advantage you can find over the competition. I think this is why the stack and tilt method has gone largely by the wayside. It's just not anymore consistent or easier than the way players had been doing it. Those who commented I don't need a swing to win majors I just want to go have fun. Well they are full of you know what. They are just too lazy or don't care to put in the work. If that isn't true then put your money where your mouth is and lets play a round. Simplistic concepts are great for beginner to intermediate players. They can also be good for advanced players too, but the devil is in the details. I think your assessment was spot on and correct. As usual though you can show the video evidence to back up the claim that someone is misrepresenting one of the greats and it still doesn't matter. If they love them the masses will follow anyway.

It really wouldn't matter if you offered better instruction than Tom Saguto, I couldn't listen to you pedantically drone on and on long enough to get any benefit from you. Saguto makes instruction fun, motivates and encourages amateur golfers, and clearly reveres Ben Hogan . You defeat your own argument when you say, "I'm not quite sure because I don't have the book on me".
