I remember when I just started playing guitar 15 years ago I'd go to our local guitar store and I'd see this Thunder as well as Screamer. After collecting myself and overcoming being shy I'd ask to play them and I remember loving both combos so much. They were like my dream amps. Few weeks ago, after years of playing and trying all kinds of brands, I got myself Engl Fireball 25 with a matching 2x12 and it feels like home. Haha. Totally brought out the 15 year old out of me again.
Shane the clean is the best sounding amp I've heard this year. The drive sound though, sorry man, just doesn't cut it for me. The best way to heaven, especially for us Blues players is to leave it on clean and let it dirty up naturally when you dig in. This is a huge win for ENGL, with one caveat. As a Blues player, there's zero chance I'm buying an amp that looks like a metal amp. They need to have an old school front speaker grill.
Dont be put off by the aesthetics of it looking "metal", its all in the clean sound of these amps. They are a blank canvas really for anything, Jazz right up to heavy thrash and beyond. Also the inside face os the grille/baffle is deep enough to put vintage cloth grille on them. I was thinking of putting fender mace coloured tweed grillecloth on mine, but i would have to redo "both 112 cabs" to match.🤔
On that note, I think my own amp is one of the fugliest ever made hahaha, Laney Cub 12R. But I've learned to love it because it sounds good. Maybe I can change the tolex. You can do a lot worse looks-wise than this Engl. Not everything has to have tweed like your granddad's trousers.
The most under-rated amps ever.! I use 2 of these in a wet/dry setup in stereo, which i also use 2 112 cabs with them. The cleans are super fat and thick and the drives with each different setting sounds really smooth. Even with other drive pedals like my staple's Hughes and Ketter and Strymon Riverside (which i use this in midi config), i get every drive sound i need at the stomp of a switch. The main stars are both Engls. Really glad you demo'd an Engl this time Shane, and demo'd it the way you did and should be done rather than down-tuned flappy string stuff (nothing wrong with that stuff at all), but it does not show the true potential any of the Engl brand of amps they produce and how versatile they can be, including their ultra high gain stuff which can do blues to hard rock and everything in between including that Brutal chug stuff that always seems to be demo'd that way.👌👍👍
@dimitarneshev9182 sorry late reply, I use a RADIAL ABY switcher. I use both ENGL Z4s, as each amp clean and drive characteristics sound different to each other plus along with the H&K Tubefactor and Strymon Riverside (Midi CC) i can get endless drive channels and such into the RADIAL (dual out) to each input of each amps, i then stereo in/out of the X5 into FX channels of both amps. I love this combination as it suits my purposes fine. Plus i can also use just one amp and cab if I want to (as mono setup), but dummy plug the right in/outs of the X5 so I get full fidelity of its FX. Hope that helps.🙂👍👍
@@dimitarneshev9182 also i should add i picked up a 2notes Torpedo CabM+ about a month ago, still experimenting "as a D.I" using the mic and power amp modules on and off. I like the fact you can use it in-between the amp and speaker (not an attenuator tho), but it will let you take the natural raw sound of the amp into F.O.H, P.A system. So far it seems good, but I love pushing air with speakers.
@@atlejohnnyrygg7124Sorta, but amps often spring to life only once the power tubes are being pushed and will sound restrained below a certain volume, that's why low wattage amps have become so popular
Great amps. Nearly bought 1 some years ago, but I mostly play clean thru my old Fender and stuck with Ulbrick for anything else. I know a few friends that use Engl but still wonder why they aren't more popular down here.

Strat with Lace Sensors + Engl = Ritchie Blackmore's 90's live sound. Best Strat tone I've ever heard!
I’m not a guitar player, but even I bought a Engl Screamer for in my bands practice room. I love the sound!
ENGLs are underrated. Such good amps, that can be found used at a good price.
The ENGL E650 Ritchie Blackmore signature is one of my dream amps. ENGL makes some amazing stuff.

That is a special amp! Clean was insane and overdrive was great as well

That could be interesting if they came out with a series that feature vintage styling, but the market is saturated with high priced vintage throwbacks

If for no other reason I reject this amp because of the huge logo blocking the speaker. Seems odd you have the microphone pointed at that logo.
