I will always remember the FIFA Balon D'or 2014 gala where Robben, Messi and Cristiano were asked about the most important goal in their careers. Messi and Robben chose a goal, but Cristiano said "The next goal is the most important". I love that answer. It really showcases his ambitious mindset.

I've reached a point where I've learned to appreciate the 2 of them. I genuinely can't choose one over the other, both of them have unique traits that help them stand out from the rest of the competition. They are both images of greatness and I'm very much blessed to have watched the 2 of them in their prime. I can. Messi is miles better and Ronaldo’s only arguments for being the greatest player ever is goals. When u think about Maradona, Messi, Cruyff, Best, etc this guys weren’t the best bc of their goals, these guys are more than just goals and that’s a different level. Once u start saying “oh this player scores the most goals and goals win games so being the best is about goals”, ur disrespecting legends like Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho etc. This is no hate, but cristiano is not the best passer/playmaker/dribbler of all time, his only argument is goals and I’m not saying he’s only a goal scorer but his fans and the media only have the goals argument which isn’t good enough.

@@ayoo8782 I disagree, he's physically much more powerful, I think his athleticism is better and he's obviously got more pace, these are things other than goals. The other part of this is, it isn't simply number of goals but you can break it down further, he has more headed goals, more weak footed goals, a better penalty record, more tap ins, more long range goals, and even with free kicks Messi is ahead but there's only a 4 goal difference in that regard. Simply put he is much more versatile in how he scores those goals.
From a playmaking perspective, yes Messi has the advantage here but not every player needs to do everything (Ronaldo is no slouch in this department either) things like dribbles etc are just a means to an end, which is to beat your man, whether you do that by beating them to the ball in the box or using a bit of flair to beat them in a 1v1 is irrelevant in a results business.

Every Generation a player with gifted abilities such as Messi shows up, like Diego Maradona, R9, Ronaldhino, Henry, even Neymar etc. But I am yet to see a perfect footballer that almost every kid in the world aspires to be such as CR7. No one enters the field to train to be like Messi because what he has is untrainable and un coachable until one regular man showed us that it’s not, everything Messi can do he has done with the most amount of hate just for being a regular kid who practiced his heart out and made his dreams a reality. Difference between messi and ronaldo is that messi is gifted. He works harder than most but when you see him play you can't help but think that he is gifted for sure. Cristiano is among the top football players of all time (no doubts between the best 5 in history alongside with Messi, Maradona, Pele and Cryuff, you can order them as you like but probably they would say Pelé Maradona and Messi top3 and Cryuff/Cristiano top 4-5 in any order as people tend to value the world cup the most, even tho a eurocup is basically a world cup without brazil ans argentina and Portugal was never a candidate since Eusebio's, and winning 3 champions leagues in a row as MVP is something IMO way harder, that wasn't done in over 50 years).
Thing is that all of these have their own strenghts that made them to become the best of their era. In case of Pele it was the dominance of infinite resources of the game. All of the amazing plays and skills you watch today, Pele did it before. In case of Maradona he is BY FAR the player that had the highest skill and ball control. Ronaldinho is probably the second and Maradona when he was inspired was x10 times better at ball control. In case of Cryuff, it was his intelligence. He not only had a level of skills that are among the top of history but he knew where to go, and how to move to take benefit of just ANY rift the enemy teams opened. In the case of Messi, it's clearly his dribble and physical stamina. You can kick the guy the whole match and he still does a run at 85', dribbles 3 guys and scores an amazing goal. Now, when it comes about Cristiano, I'd say it's his mental strenght and prifessional atheltisism. Cristiano might not only be the most professional football player ever but one if not the best athlete ever. He not only got an amazing natural talent but he has polished his body to take benefit from that talent, with amazing strenght, durability, speed, fast reactions, definition, long distance shots, explosive jumps for headers. That's why he matches basically ANY team.
Ronaldo is the best forward of ALL TIME. No one is as COMPLETE as him. Every attacking stat in his prime should at least be 95+. I would argue that Messi is the best player of all-time due to tiki-taka and passing ingrained in him. But let's be real if you could pick 3xRonaldo or 3xMessi upfront, I'm picking my handsome role model all day

I think Ronaldo will go down as the most complete footballing great that’s ever lived. Messi is undoubtedly the GOAT. But Ronaldo is so athletic, strong, fast, skilful, both footed, incredible in the air etc etc. He is incredible. A consummate professional and winner. I think when he retires people will realise how exceptional his career really was, and just how much he changed the game.
