Crazy how I just realized my friend bought this car like a couple months ago I was like damn those seats and the engine bay looks familiar. Then I was like damn those Utah mountains look familiar as well. Too bad he’s selling it and 2nd gear is completely gone
With that set up and a proper map can see gains of up to 280 Bhp comfortably at 260bhp you can hear your not even using what that turbo can do, its mapped for a smaller turbo with a earlier prolonged boost now you have a mo4 which usually give you more boost at higher rpm you need to map it it's not getting the air flow
JohnWick KOBK it’s literally almost identical to a k03s which the car was already tuned for. This turbo did help the boost not fall off as much. With the k03 it felt like it fell on its face past 6k rpm. Now it pulls to 7k happily.

Compressor surge is not good. If your diverter valve isn’t actuating its hooked up to a bad vacuum source. Should be manifold vacuum. I’d make a new vacuum line up and make sure its tight and tied to absolute manifold vacuum. It also might mean the valve may be opening up at peak boost causing boost to fall off up top. Just my $.02 feel free to flame me.

@@r1l3y91ef its bad either way. The exhaust turbine wants to spin one way while the extra pressure has nowhere to go in the charge pipe so it goes back out the inlet of the turbo, (the flutter sounds) thus slowing down the compressor turbine, add in the momentum of the exhaust side and it puts stress on the shaft of the turbo.
1.8t.... #neverlose for anyone who watches donut media or up to speed... both good UA-cam channels. Loved my 1.8t but I think I love my 2.8l VR6 more... just love that sound.
Ya I def love the stock sound of the vr6 more but with a good exhaust setup on the 4 cylinder u can make it sound crisp 👌
Did the flautering sounds ever get fixed yet.
Had the same thing and friend ran line to intake manifold and holds boost better.
Yeah just used a diff diverter valve and routed vacuum to brake booster.
I had to get a better diverter valve. I got the adjustable spring rkx valve. My vacuum line was fine.
lol that old turbo isn't really that bad. also it isn't "leaking out the seals" because there are no seals. The oil is held in with air pressure. Oil coming out is normal.
The brass bushings sure are seals hahaha. That turbo had way more play than most of the turbos I’ve ever had haha.
Really enjoyed this content .!! Please keep blessing him with more a4 gti product lol 😂
so have a golf that my dad picked up for $1500 and it pulls WAY harder than this golf and so I’m wondering, wtf did they do to it? It’s a 1.8T like this. It was $1500 because the whole front end needed to be rebuilt. Mine isn’t a GTI either, it’s been rebadged with the GTI and rabbit logo the the 20th anniversary (but mines an 01 so it can’t be the 20th). Very confused, but very fun to drive.
You also can’t assume that the way a video looks correlates to actual feeling.
What diverter valve or intake do you have because I have a 1.8t ko4 stage 3 catless downpipe and ecs tuning intake with a diverter valve and it doesn’t give the spooly noises like that
I have a maxpeeding rods turbo and it rips low key pretty good for the price
How many miles you got on it?

Is this a real upgrade? It must be shit cus its sooo cheap
Have 337 with a Ko4 , Love it , if you don't already have the 3" down pipe, with the tune , That make a huge difference these little motors need to breathe

Thanks for watching man!
hello, how's the turbo holding? how's the customer support?
Turbo is still alive and well. Can’t tell you about the customer support.
Im curious how this is holding up still.
still holding strong!!!
Not to mention I health checked mine, it's the same one as in the video after 2 years. And the turbine shafts and everything had 0 play. I was stunned!
@Quévin Santos about 200whp and 230tq. But we will never know actual numbers because I never put it on the dyno. The tune was capable of 250hp 270tq
Dude u need to run 3 inch straight pipe it would sound so much better I did it to mine with a stage 2 tune it sounds amazing
Its already 3 inch turbo back.
@@r1l3y91ef so straight pipe? Because it doesnt sound like a straight pipe tbh
Straight pipes on a 1.8t sounde like a tractor lmao

@Chase Robbins maybe a little bit of pops. If you want more, you have to do your ECU. its a little bit difficult to explain that in englisch. sry
Chase Robbins yes, can confirm. I’ve got a straight pipe, K04, tune, it pops massive flames with loud asf bangs
He needs a better Diverter Valve its not blowing off causing air back into turbo causing the stuutuutu but slowing down the spool.
Look at the suspension video. I already fixed it.
What’s the set-up on that golf 1.8t to make it turbo
Flutter like that!
no diverter valve, but isn't good for your turbo :/
I picked up a yellow 20th anniversary a few months ago!!!
Ever since I upgraded my GTI (AUM (E-gas)) with an KO4, bigger Injectors, new MAF (I already upgraded full milltek, with decat long time ago) - I have had every cylidner misfire - I have tried replacing the plugs -> No Change, then the coils, still no change. - At coldstart it makes popping in the exhaust, and hesitates to go - and it doesn't sound very pleasent - nothing like pops n bangs? - Also when warm, at times, it missfires alot, and struggle to keep alive, at a redlight for instance. - Also, it feels like it's drowning petrol, or so it doesn't want to go - for instance, if it has been missfiring at a stop - or If I have been playing with the gas pedal, to make some smaller/medium pops n bangs(for the enjoyment)?? - (I was told by a friend, that the tune needed a lot of petrol, to keep the turbo cool?) - could it be feeding to much fuel, and drowning itself? or what is happening? Anyone??
It is needed to say, that the car usually feels fine, and quick - but it is very annoying - and it doesn't feel right.
I still need a FMIC btw!
I'd suggest going back to factory injectors and try a 06atechnik tune. That's what the car in the video has. I'm still on factory injectors with the k04 and it's been flawless once I got the compressor surge issue worked out.
Bigger injectors without a mapping them in makes your car misfire lol....
@@andreicioranu1105 But I did have it mapped, just a base map - bad news tho - the k04 exploded (after 4 months of driving + - 35k Miles bought used)... Did you change the MAP sensor? You'll get more boost using a 4 bar.
How is the turbo now? Still running fine? No leaks or whatever?
Still good. I sold the car about 8 months ago. But I stay in contact with the current owner. He says she’s still going strong.
A brand new Borgwarner turbo will have some play, not to that degree by any means. But it's still far from "toasted", it's just a different design/style of turbo bearing.
It was passing oil into my intercooler. Haha. It's the most play I've felt on a turbo to this day.
@@r1l3y91ef well then the seals are definetly gone.
I've had a brand new k03-005 on my B5 and it had a fair bit of play, I've also had a used 8,000km k03-029 and it was the same, only a little less then your current one haha.

Except the huge amount of oil it was leaking into the charge pipes.
Hi, i only watched the video quick because im in work .. i have a mk4 gti , AGU (1999) . I rebuilt my engine and stage 3 remap with the ko4 turbo from the lcr , pushing around 350bhp . What mods did your friend do? Also im not sure about the ko4 there? Was that a sidemount or straight down likw the ko3? Im pretty sure a genuine ko4 has a side mount (exhaust ) so you need to get the custom made down pipe. I run a single decat 3" on mine , Ill try watch the video properly later
Ok so i watched it full. Im not a pro but i dont think thats a genuine ko4 looks like the chinese copy ? Ill upload a video of mine onday if you ever see this comment and see the difference
D4MO tv it’s a k04-001. There are many k frame turbo models. This was the same as a k03s in aspects of simply bolting on. Other k04 you will need a lot of extra work to make fit. Imo not worth it. May as well go big turbo.
That car is fresh as fuck for the mileage!
🙏
So is this turbos me exact size as a k03s or bigger..in the beginning if the video he says "sitting in the box is a k04 turbo" bit a k04 turbo has a different design and won't just bolt up to a stock k03s setup I thought??
john m k04-001 will bolt up the same as a k03s it’s necessary to have a silicone turbo inlet though.
a k04 itself w built internals and bored out w a eurodyne tune
Bigger rods and injectors,
Catless 3” DP
that E36 would not stand a chance

Your golf had ko3 or KO3s? I have a 2004 Mk4 gti 1.8t with KO3s stock, is it worth to upgrade with a KO4?
It was a gls. So it just had a k03.
What is your boost profile...
From the video you said your hitting 24psi at 3000rpm, what psi you getting at red line?
24psi spike at 3000rpm and it tapers down to 20hold all of the way up to redline.
So u just bolted a k04 straight on without changing the oil/ water pipes?
K04-001 fits the same as k03 and k03s. Just need a silicone turbo inlet.
Shouldn't the tune change to take advantage of the new turbo?
It did to an extent. It's not a huge change. But the peakiness went away.
How many miles did it last at what psi
whats the exhaust setup on that? sounds really good!
I like the exhaust sound!
Yo I got a dumb question I live in Vegas where there's no 93 just 87 91 and 89 and from what I've heard not from internet but from a buddy of mine you can mix feul to get 93 I'm wondering this because I'm getting a 04 be Passat 1.8t
My tune was written on 93 octane. But we only have 91 here and it runs great.
I'm in the UK I got the same GTi but with straight side pipes bangs in all gears like a gun
Dickhead lool
Is it just me or is there a clicking noise? Is it normal? I had a TDI before and kinda sounded similar...
It is the injectors
Interesting
Did you need a new TIP or anything else? Or were they all the same size as the K03?
Yes. You’ll need a turbo inlet. The k04 is larger then a the k03
Where did you get the ko4 kit I need one both my best friends have v8s and I’m running ko3 with 5 psi 😢
I just ordered that turbo what turbo inlet pipe did you end up using ?
I had a eurojet turbo inlet pipe.
That turbos gonna blow without the dv hooked up
Hahahahahhaha. Closed throttle compressor surge is literally harmless. Open throttle compressor surge is terrible.
Enough stress can snap it in half
gfb.com.au/tech/tech-articles/11-the-truth-about-compressor-surge/
You should educate yourself. Closed throttle compressor surge is virtually harmless. Open throttle compressor surge is very bad on the other hand.

holy compressor surge !!!!!!!! it sounds badass but its nog good!
Watch the coilover video. I explain how I fixed it.
Bro how do you make a diverted valve make that sound, sounds great
Its compressor surge. I had a faulty diverter valve. Now it's fixed and makes one loud "choof" . See the coilover video.
You can just disconnect the plug to the diverter valve but it's not really advisable there are mixed opinions on what damage you can cause to your turbo bearings but no solid evidence.
So is this a direct bolt on from a K03/K03S set up? No need for a different downpipe or manifold?
I can't speak for the stock downpipe. I've had a 3inch catless since I was on the k03. But yes, everything went in just as if it were a stock turbo. I'd highly recommend a silicone turbo inlet though. Getting a stock one to fit the slightly larger k04 inlet would be tough.

whistlingturbskis compressor surge is when the turbo flutters under load (while you’re on the throttle)

you homie seems chill asf
Did he need a different manifold or downpipe or is it an exact replacement?
It was exactly the same as the k03 but bigger. Not by much. All I did was go through the catalog and chose the turbo that was a upgrade but would be a direct bolt on.
How much of a difference does the k04 really make over a k03s?
Not much. My guess is 20-30hp. Even with a tune , bigger maf, and injectors. These cars are not powerhouses
What diverter valve do you guys have in this thing? I want that flutter sound. Forge 007 is not making it
That flutter is a bad thing. Look at the other comments. Upgraded the diverter and now it's a solid whoosh. Watch the coilover video. We talk about the new one in there.
Lol yea you definitely don't want that flutter sound.
☝🏾☝🏾☝🏾what they said lol.
So did u just bolt it on, cuz u said it had a little bit bigger exhaust, so can I just swap out the ko3 for the ko4? Thanks
