Chrome, chrome, and more chrome and fins oh my! Beautiful example of period of excess in American car design we'll never see the likes of those cars again except for examples like this.
It wasn't excess, HJE's detractors hated his work on account they were so green with envy. Easiest route for secondary designers/engineers was to come out of the woodwork with excuses as to WHY their designs couldn't measure up and/or didn't sell during this period. Look, the other way to measure the success of these amazing works of art and engineering is to look at a chart of their rise in the last 60-odd years...Zoom, zoom zoom UPWARD. But, as they say...and it's true: People Believe What They Want To Believe.
The chrome side panels & rear bumper had black stripes between the chrome ones on the Roadmaster 75. The Special Century, & Super were all chrome or polished aluminum.
Interesting that, even with a special order, the buyer didn't get air conditioning. If course, it was a $400.00 option/around $3,000.00 today. My mother had a white, '58 Roadmaster, fully equipped. Great car!
The Buick brand was just below the Cadillac with General Motors. In most cases there were shared many similar fitures as noticeable with this gorgeous car Thanks for your video
TV series Night Court: Christine complains about her father getting her a 58' Roadmaster. Following scene, she gets to work having been in a major accident, including getting broadsided by a city bus. Cast 'Are you hurt'. Christine 'No, but I think I broke a nail.' 🤣
@@kickit59 Yet sales were off terribly thanks in part to the Eisenhower recession and 58s became obsolete very fast. The Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special is a favorite of mine.
1958 is my favorite year for the top of the line GM cars!!! This Buick Roadmaster convertible with it's massive bumpers & fat bands of chrome everywhere is the pinnacle of excess!!! I love these cars. Once again your video is excellent & the music is perfect!!! Thanks for sharing another exciting video!!! 👍👍🙂
NICE, My Dad had a white 58 Roadmaster Convertible with a black top and white interior. I rolled it down the driveway and it took out two medium sized trees. the car wasn't damaged at all...
A man I know has a 1958 Buick Roadmaster convertible--the same model as this--in the same color. Since these are not commonly seen, I had to look twice to see whether it was his.
Had one in my teens, it was two tone blue and white but not a convertible. The seals in the fluid drive failed with a loud flushing sound, unable to afford to fix it to the junkyard it went. They were extremely comfortable. Later in my life I had a Wildcat and then Regal Limited. In my opinion Buicks and Chryslers had Cadillac beat insofar as luxury goes. Drive it don't hide it.
The next door neighbor had one of these in the 1960's but it was a hard top in yellow like the Buick parked next to it here. It looked very outdated in the '60s but now it looks nostalgic
Too bad we didn't get a closer look at the 56 next to it as well. I noticed an alternator and incorrect breather caps on the valve covers. Glass bowl fuel filter was also missing. Not a big deal but had to point out the details. It's interesting such a unpopular car when new is now revered by so many collectors worldwide. I always liked 58s, but few shared by vision until just recently. Bought my first 58 when I was 18. That was over 50 years ago.
No worries my friend! Here is the 56 next to it: ua-cam.com/video/S6HYIkALXrI/v-deo.html I will post some more of the Buicks from that show soon! great story, and thanks for watching!
Great car. Unfortunately it pales next to the flawless guitar work on This Boy. It's exceedingly rare when I prefer a cover to a Beatles original. Rikki Man
Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!!
Just put in hardened valve seats, a still in your backyard and run it on alcohol you make yourself. PS if your car is burning oil, replace the valve guides.
My gosh, what a remarkable time capsule!
THere was a time when US cars were unique and stylish in every detail ! Wonderful.

These bring back the joys of motoring!!!!!!

Its a very beautiful car.
Yes. And the color is what Buick called Laurel Mist for 58. A slight variation from the color Chevy had for 57.
When Buick carried prestige & stood as a proud choice , among Cadillacs , Lincolns , Imperials. Bold & beautiful.

Another superbly executed video of a spectacular vehicle. Only my opinion but think 1958 was General Motors finest time.
Robert I agree with you! The Star Chief that year was also truly amazing as was the Impala & Olds 98! 1958 was probably General Motors finest hour!

Gorgeous!!! An era when America & it's culture was at it's Zenith with cars, music, clothes etc! How could a country fall so far in just 60 years???🤔😓

Bravo!! One day I’ll be cruising in a 58’ Buick 😭
That color is beautiful 🤩
My favorite uncle had that same color orchid 58 Roadmaster 4 door hardtop. That is one sweet, stylish convertible.
WOW!!! A real work of art! Our world is changing so fast, I love the way vintage cars slow down...
Thank you for sharing, How beautiful.
While watching, I was falling in love w/ this special motoramic masterpiece by HJE. Amazing work of art and engineering!
Nice ! beautiful colors.
Laurel Mist
A Work of Art! Not like the plastic junk of today !!
A Harley Earl design.
Those bench seats make double dating very easy!! Love them
You can't make love inside a Picasso or a Rembrandt!
Nothing came between a young relationship like bucket seats and a console 😢
Beautiful car.
And a Beatles song.
That was a Beatles song? The Beatles weren't even thought of in 1958.

If you are going to nitpick, seat belts in the '58 must drive you nuts.
@@encinobalboa The don't drive me nuts but I did take notice of them! :-)

Such a beautiful car. To bad they don’t make them like that now days. Just cookie cutter junk now.

It's too bad more peopel in the USA don't respect these cars and keep them here.
Fuzzy dice just cheapen this car’s beauty.
exactly - young people could not have afforded this car back then
Nah, when your riding in this much style, your balls are hanging out anyway.
I could never understand why a guy would leave all the windows up with a convertible top down.

Step 1- Stop voting for these idiots.
Then why are the prices of these cars so high? If Europeans and anyone in America tolerates such policies it's a call for revolution.
We had a Pink one and I feel so much in love with it and as a result I bought a new Old stock 1968 electra 225 convertable with@ 10.00 Miles on it
