Lunch Break - How to Sing a Ballad

- Lunch Break sings their hilarious version of "Love Me and the World is Mine", describing how to correctly perform a contest ballad. Great reference to KU's loss in the tournament that day (although most of the audience didn't appreciate it.) Funny stuff. Recorded with Canon Vixia HF S10 with internal stereo mic, auto mic levels.
Lyrics:
We wondered what song would be great (really great!)
A song that's sung so tenderly
And now lunch break will demonstrate,
Just how to sing a ballad properly
first you sing it really proudly, then you sing it softly
(inaudible "oooos")
then you overact like crazy
squint like things are hazy.
Then you make a promise you can't keep,
Like i'll love you forever,
Or I'll have hair forever,
Or the Jayhawks will win, not this year.
At first this song will make them cheer,
but then you'll sing it every year after year after year.
of course you know that every ballad has a false tag sometimes, psych!
Big spread chords are so impressive,
pregnant pauses are expressive.
Then you briefly change the key, then modulate back
You're near the end, sing loudly!
Now it's time for the melodramatic bass solo!
Fist Pump! Then you raise your arms
and then you tag it, singing way too high!
Way too high!
His name is Drew Ellis - and he's me. :-) I stepped out of the qtet and KJ was a natural replacement... he had already done a few shows for us. KJ is awesome.

Awesome! I'm just disappointed the audience cheered before the tag was done... Their ending for this is so awesome!
Updates:
"Then you briefly change the key, then modulate back" is now "Then you gesture to the right - the other right - oh yeah - then you gesture to the left"
"Big spread chords are so impressive" is now "Baritones are so impressive" for KJ, the new baritone
The extended ending has "Rolling around heaven all day" or "I just want my ma"
