I don't care what note it is. It's HIGH, it's IN TUNE, it's LENGTHY, and it's forced me to watch this video like sixty times in the last two days. This video is probably the best example of how underratedly talented barbershop singers are.

May it wave as our standard forever The gem of the land and the sea, ever hoist it proud and high All nations remember the day when our fathers with might endeavor proclaimed as they marched to the fray "Defended by our might, ever standing for the right, it waves forever!" I am British. I used to be part of a UK female barbershop chorus, I was 16 when i left. It wasn't cool! But, I had the Acoustix CD. I learned the US National Anthem before learning the UK one! Thank god for UA-cam. I can still have a listen and a trip down memory lane :) They are very good x
Incredibly impressive, especially considering this was a live performance. Melodyne, autotune, absolutely not necessary. These guys are true champions of harmony.
I don't know how old these men are, but many years ago, on TV, I saw them sing this song in a competition and they won! I didn't know their group's name, but I remembered that bass singer! Joy, oh joy, I've found them again and I've most certainly bookmarked this page!! They are the greatest I have ever heard!
This is the moments still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. It brings back memories of when they sang it to the Vocal Majority prior to competing in the Barbershop Harmony Chorus contest.
Obviously, this is a great song for 4th of July. But what really gets me about this video is that it demonstrates one of the best things about Acoustix: PERFECT balance between parts. Listen to that last chord. Perfect balance!
My quartet (For Heaven's Sake Harmony Inc 1996 Queens) sings this too - it's a David Wright arr. and it's tough as hell! He actually has "good luck" written in the sheet music at the middle section! I must have listened to Acoustix sing this song 2000 times on their cd! When we got the music it was right before 9/11 and that really motivated us to do it! We were almost thinking it was too hard. Glad we did it! Oh - and our lead posts a full voice high E at the end - she kicks bootie!
As a previous competition baton twirler, all baton events (except solo twirl) was performed to a cassette (in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, there was a record player at competitions) on continuous repeat! In college, I twirled for a Division I school as feature twirler and again, I could not escape Stars and Stripes forever as a part of the football pre-game performance. To say this version is impressive is an understatement. I have a renewed appreciation and love for John Phillip Sousa.
The lyrics have to be buried in history or they would stop singing the Star Spangled Banner (which is arguably more American in terms of being big and annoying haha)
@@rudolfsidhu That "controversial" passage on slavery should not be controversial since it does not praise/condone slavery at all. If those who are offended by it read it and interpreted it in its context they would understand that. Unfortunately, many of them seem to be so intent on finding something "racist" about the anthem that they give no importance to context or meaning.
@@joaobaptista5307 LOL where did I mention about controversy on slavery? I am just talking about the arrangement and no doubt given the choice between the Star Spangled Banner and Stars and Stripes Forever I would choose the latter as the National Anthem :P

Holy cow, this is awesome. I've never heard an a cappella group this good. I play this piece on the piano, but I never knew there was an a cappella arrangement made of it. Very impressive guys! You all sound top notch!
if anybody has ever heard the ritz, i believe they won the year after acoustix my choir teacher is the baritone and me and a few friends are working on a quartet and he is helping us out.

The best quartet of all time...and Jason January mannnnn he is so good on both of these tags...I have always said he sounds like some kind of instrument instead of a human voice. I guarantee he had a breath mint or cough drop (whatever he uses) for this one lol sheeeee. Jeff Oxley is God.
I cant stop listening to Ned hitting that post. I think it's the octave lock with Ox that makes those crazy overtones. I feel it more than I hear it. Incredible.
This barbershop quartet is mostly full of tenors one singing bass a heldentenor, another singing baritone a lyric-spinto tenor, one singing lead a full lyric tenor, and one singing tenor a countertenor.

Dear lord their harmonies are so consistently tight! Even when they're singing into microphones!
Unbelievable. The very very best. Then and now.
This group; Acoustix is just too fine and highly polished. I enjoy their music.

This is fantastic!!!!! Thank you for posting it.
Love the b flat at the end and just the song its beautiful i listen to it everyday
I always said Jason was the "Bionic Baritone" . . . . now I remember why. HOLY COW! Thanks for posting!!!
Brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat every time.
Bravo Acoustix! That was a very impressive performance!
I very much enjoy this piece!!!
It's the first time i see the bari holding the main note in a tag. Wonderful
Haha, Jeff tells Jason right at the last second "Nice Bb man!"
Todd is one awesome tenor and his parts are often the best, in my opinion.
It was Bb
Absolutely fantastic 👏
I love the way you guys performed it ❤
These guys are incredible. I love it!!!
If they are ever in little ole Suring, WI, I hope they stop by my church to sing for Special Music. Love this!!!
I definitly wouldnt mind this song being sung more often especial with these lyrics
This is the greatest rendition I've seen so far!
One of the best things I ever watched!

True tho. Sousa hated horns I swear
He was definitely a low brass guy, he invented a low brass instrument!
