Look up the torque curve on that engine. Its got about 300 pound feet of torque as soon as you push the skinny petal down at around 1000 rpm's. Pretty awesome engine, and its sooooo simple if you ever want to modify it. In my opinion this car has got all the modern amenities that you could want, and all the dead reliable old school design I require. Good combination.
+Quadrunner My feelings exactly. I'm ordering a 2017 as soon as they are available. I won't even get a sunroof as it's just one more thing to leak/break, not to mention it eats up headroom (plus you get a sunglass holder if you don't have a sunroof). It's got just enough tech, without all the useless crap I'll never use. I would gladly trade the parking assist though for a couple of other features (better stereo, adjustable seat belts, full LED lighting inside and out, etc.).
***** Personally I just don't use sunroofs very often when I do have them, so I would rather keep the extra headroom, save a little money, and get my sunglass holder back LOL.
This over the Charger. I love the Charger, and it does come cheaper, but this is a manual. Plus, the aftermarket for the LS3's (or just the LS motors in general) are endless. I want it sooooo bad.
Nice review. But I can't help but notice that none of the reviewers know that there is a 4th MRC mode: Track. Double tap the traction control icon to the right of the MRC knob to activate Track mode which allows for launch control (manual only), a different pedal feel, fully disengaged Stabilitrak and traction control, and a couple other goodies. I love my '15 SS manual!
This is by far the best review of the SS Sedan! I 100% agree with each point you made Saabkyle04! I too believe the SS lacks a bit of appeal compared to similarly priced and equipped vehicles (namely the tame styling, somewhat dated powertrain and the interior quality; which isn't bad, but is not as stylish as the Chrysler sedans). But it's no doubt a real gem when it comes to the overall package of performance and content! It really is simply a matter of personal preference! I love all your reviews! Keep up the good work!

@@mattneal4309 have you ever drove one? There's a reason...plus you can get them at 35k instead since they weren't advertised well. Which is awesome so it makes them very rare and they will only go up in value overtime :-)
I have had my 2015 SS for 4 years now, love it just as much as they say I got it, lts incredibly comfortable and pretty luxurious for a GM interior, yet at the same time the car sounds like a muscle car and it shimmys / shakes a bit from cam lope at idle - it reminds you that there is a massive V8 under your right foot, it has character that way, it's also unique and rare, I don't see one at every stop light like mustangs, chargers and challengers. It's like being in stealth mode, best sleeper made since the GMC cyclone/ typhoon
Both the Pontiac G8 GXP and the Chevrolet SS were great cars. It was so unfortunate and disappointing General Motors had to phase out Holden and the Commodore VE/VF production had to end as well. GM withdrew from Australia because manufacturing cars there was so expensive. Also, it was very sad employees who worked at Holden lost thier jobs😔

I'm going nuts watching these videos. I can't believe how fortunate Americans are. So much choice. So many fantastic cars that are actually affordable. I love your Camaro and Corvette especially. It really makes me want to move to the USA. Even a high end Porsche is a third of the price that we pay hear in Australia.

Your video was very well done and covered most everything. I just ordered a new SS for 2017 in white with auto-trans and no sunroof. I would have preferred the manual transmission, but I'm physically disabled. This is the last year for this model, and I wanted a sleeper style config. I typically add stuff to my cars to make them a bit more unique, and this one certainly needs help. Those hollow door panels, as well as the floor and roof, will get the Dynamat treatment almost immediately. My last Chevy was a 2004 Impala SS w/3.8 supercharged V6, and it ran well. The dated and lackluster interior has been a Chevy hallmark as far back as I can remember.

I think I'd still go Charger SRT8/RT/Scat Pack over this car. This car lacks the presense of most of the cars it compares to. It's not a bad car by any means, just not special enough inside and out. Charger has always been the way to go for the past several years for RWD American sedans and this is no different. Chevy is killing off the SS this year because of the lack of sales. Shame really, because as a car guy, I hate to see ANY brand struggle with a car.
idh0530 Nice info but that is wrong. GM announced its shutting down the Holden plant that makes the SS in 2017 a long time ago. Get them while their hot, 2016s just got announced and it's probably the last year. But good try.

I am not a fan of big power with manual transmissions. The ease of use of an automatic in everyday traffic is worth a million bucks and on average is far faster off the line than a 6 speed without having to over rev, bog out or waste fuel. This is a fine car. Don't trap yourself with a 6 speed...
John Petito I know how to drive a manual, however, the more power you have the more of a pain in the ass a manual is. If you ask 100 Corvette owners about their cars? The one thing they all agree on is the drivers who own one with auto transmissions would EVER trade their cars for a manual.
That's right, I have a 2015 Corvette and before buying the car, I asked for a 1 day loan of each car. The automatic is controlled by a computer and on average,? The auto is faster off the line than a manual. Why do you thing Ferrari and Porsche are almost exclusively all automatics? The ease of use is also night and day...
This is one of my personal favorites. It is not as expensive as a Mercedes, Bmw, and Audi. It also sounds much better in my opinion. You also do not see a whole lot of them, making them more unique than all the Mercedes you see on the road.
Viktor Freesmeier Really? better get your eyes checked. This one has a flat bottom. Same steering wheel design as the Vette, or the Z28 Camaro. The Malibu, Impala all are way different.

Great review Kyle, first time coming across your page I'm hooked. I'm biased since own and SS, but cross shopped the Charger and this over the past few months. Between most cops in my area and elsewhere in Illinois driving Chargers, and seemingly every 25yr dude on his first job. I was quickly turned off from Dodge. Then started looking at some German makes but liked the SS too much. And as "bland" as the style is in the eyes of some, I absolutely love it more and more as my daily driver. Have had numerous compliments in 2 months of ownership. It's classic, sporty, and an absolute beast to drive (not that a few trims of the Charger aren't).
02:53 Now that's what I'm talking about, nothing like the sound of that V8 starting up. Puts a smile on my old school face. Too bad GM gave it the boot.

Kyle, you should really consider coming to Australia sometime to check out the ute version of the SS, as well as the biggest rival to it, the Ford Falcon. Both are excellent cars imo.

Kyle: Great review. Good to see another GM car. I liked the fact you mentioned the Pontiac G8. I think Pontiac should still be here selling this car. That is just me. I think the Caprice should have had a civilian version for sale. I know people were secretly buying them early on and GM closed that loophole with the dealers. It seems to me GM outside the United States gets better products and more variety as we here in the United States get less now. This was great to see you compare the SS to the Dodge. I prefer this car with Holden badges personally.
While everyone has their own oppinions on the vf commodore/ chevrolet ss. I would buy one if i could. Ive sat in the comodore amd has no problems with it. While i respect the dodge comany i feel that the comodore/ ss is has more to offer than the challenger. If you buy the comodore in australia it also comes stamdart with a built in dvd player in the fronts 7inch touch screen display. I personally would buy it aswell for the feel of thinking your sitting in something like a comaro but the practically and fuel economy of a sedan. Slot for charging the fob? It doesn't have a rechargeable battery. That slot is so that if the fob battery goes dead you can place the dead fob in the slot and still start the car until you get that dead fob battery changed. The slot is close to the keyless entry antenna and there will still be a weak signal coming from the fob even with a very weak/almost dead battery, and will allow the car to be started a few more times until a new battery can be put in the fob.
Great review, man! You picked out some things I hadn't heard of before, such as the lack of 60:40 fold-down seats. Gotta admit, I was disappointed by that. It's such a common feature that I've come to expect it on every car these days. It really increases cargo space when you need it.
Another excellent review. Very thorough. I have an 09 GXP and wouldn't trade it for anything. The only place the SS falls short is in the styling. Looks too mich like a Malibu. But still it is a phenomenal car.
Well done video! From your review, the SS seems like a four-door Camaro. I love the burble of the exhaust and how it cackles when you let off the gas. Reminds me of when I was a kid and Novas and Chevelles were what everyone wanted.
Great detailed review,really awesome for someone in the market to buy one or owns one. I am from Australia [Elizabeth where this car is made] and as has been publicised GM is closing down its operation here so unless they decide to make it elsewhere it may no longer be available[ rumour is it may get produced in Mexico], but they are going out with a bang and have released this car in the form of a 6.2 litre , 430 kilowatt beast with heaps of performance extras, its one hell of a car! Too bad this car doesn't come cheaper. I wish they made a base model with the same motor, just less fancy stuff. Maybe $30k-$35k. I would gladly try to get one instead of going for another Mustang on my next car, just because I'm a family man(even though I love my 05 Mustang GT). Oh well, maybe some day. Glad to see it comes with a manual now though.
Ok in reply to some of your slightly negative comment eg. hollow sounding door panels, lack of sound deadening, don't forget this is just the SS model which is a little bit stripped down version of the other models (not available in the US). The other models we get here have more sound deadening, are less hollow sounding and so on. The way you kept comparing it with the Dodge probably not fair as I'm sure the Calais version would've spanked the Dodge in those areas.

Just bought an SS. Before and after purchase I watched about every review on the web. This is the best and most objective of all.
Kyle, great review and great car. I especially like the part where you pop the hood then appear from the other angle like a boss.

The auto is faster off the line than a manual. Why do you thing Ferrari and Porsche are almost exclusively all automatics? The ease of use is also night and day...

This is one of my personal favorites. It is not as expensive as a Mercedes, Bmw, and Audi. It also sounds much better in my opinion. You also do not see a whole lot of them, making them more unique than all the Mercedes you see on the road.

I actually prefer the looks of this, but you're probably right. There isn't better value for money than the Camaro right now.

Great review Kyle, first time coming across your page I'm hooked. I'm biased since own and SS, but cross shopped the Charger and this over the past few months. Between most cops in my area and elsewhere in Illinois driving Chargers, and seemingly every 25yr dude on his first job. I was quickly turned off from Dodge.
Then started looking at some German makes but liked the SS too much. And as "bland" as the style is in the eyes of some, I absolutely love it more and more as my daily driver. Have had numerous compliments in 2 months of ownership. It's classic, sporty, and an absolute beast to drive (not that a few trims of the Charger aren't).

Kyle, you should really consider coming to Australia sometime to check out the ute version of the SS, as well as the biggest rival to it, the Ford Falcon. Both are excellent cars imo.

Kyle: Great review. Good to see another GM car. I liked the fact you mentioned the Pontiac G8. I think Pontiac should still be here selling this car. That is just me. I think the Caprice should have had a civilian version for sale. I know people were secretly buying them early on and GM closed that loophole with the dealers. It seems to me GM outside the United States gets better products and more variety as we here in the United States get less now. This was great to see you compare the SS to the Dodge. I prefer this car with Holden badges personally.
While everyone has their own oppinions on the vf commodore/ chevrolet ss. I would buy one if i could. Ive sat in the comodore amd has no problems with it. While i respect the dodge comany i feel that the comodore/ ss is has more to offer than the challenger. If you buy the comodore in australia it also comes stamdart with a built in dvd player in the fronts 7inch touch screen display. I personally would buy it aswell for the feel of thinking your sitting in something like a comaro but the practically and fuel economy of a sedan. Slot for charging the fob? It doesn't have a rechargeable battery. That slot is so that if the fob battery goes dead you can place the dead fob in the slot and still start the car until you get that dead fob battery changed. The slot is close to the keyless entry antenna and there will still be a weak signal coming from the fob even with a very weak/almost dead battery, and will allow the car to be started a few more times until a new battery can be put in the fob.
Great review, man! You picked out some things I hadn't heard of before, such as the lack of 60:40 fold-down seats. Gotta admit, I was disappointed by that. It's such a common feature that I've come to expect it on every car these days. It really increases cargo space when you need it.
In Australia there was a station wagon body if you want more space and folding rear seats.
Another excellent review. Very thorough. I have an 09 GXP and wouldn't trade it for anything. The only place the SS falls short is in the styling. Looks too mich like a Malibu. But still it is a phenomenal car.

I am from Australia [Elizabeth where this car is made] and as has been publicised GM is closing down its operation here so unless they decide to make it elsewhere it may no longer be available[ rumour is it may get produced in Mexico], but they are going out with a bang and have released this car in the form of a 6.2 litre , 430 kilowatt beast with heaps of performance extras, its one hell of a car! Too bad this car doesn't come cheaper. I wish they made a base model with the same motor, just less fancy stuff. Maybe $30k-$35k. I would gladly try to get one instead of going for another Mustang on my next car, just because I'm a family man(even though I love my 05 Mustang GT). Oh well, maybe some day. Glad to see it comes with a manual now though.

Ok in reply to some of your slightly negative comment eg. hollow sounding door panels, lack of sound deadening, don't forget this is just the SS model which is a little bit stripped down version of the other models (not available in the US). The other models we get here have more sound deadening, are less hollow sounding and so on. The way you kept comparing it with the Dodge probably not fair as I'm sure the Calais version would've spanked the Dodge in those areas.
