- In this video Corin addresses some old carving on this Japanese White Pine (Pinus parviflora). After deciding the best front for the tree Corin begins to improve the deadwood by re-carving.
Finally he adds detail and tone by burning in the detail with a Dremel type tool.

Your aesthetic inclinations work very beautifully.
Every video a superb little master class. Always greatly appreciated Corin. 👍
Love listening to the thought process behind taking the project forward. Such a depth of knowledge and understanding nature and trees to create outstanding bonsai.
Thanks, check out part 2 !
Well done, on to part 2
I can't wait for branches!
I'm finally catching up with all the videos I didn't get time to watch in June/July. Loved this one. Thanks for the details and close-ups!
Great technique on the deadwood 👍👍 very interesting.
Nice Job Corin! Looking forward to seeing the next video of this tree.
Another stunning job, great carving can’t wait to see part two 😜
I love your carving. It looks much more natural
The lines on the dead stems make the bonsai look older and have a strong character 👍👏
i love the way you explain your design decisions and work through it with the viewer.
Great stuff, cant wait to see the next episode
Wow amazing bonsai. I like it
Wish I were wealthy. I'd fly you over here to Ohio and have you teach me and assist me in styling my trees. Lol!😂 You're really good. 👏👏👏
An excellent “what would you do?” video! First time I’ve seen this technique and I think it’s very impressive!
It is the working on trees that is the fun part of Bonsai is an approach that I fully agree with, yes you can admire a tree but taking a tree from pre Bonsai to planted in an enhancing pot is the kind of long term project that draws people into the hobby and these videos encourage people in tree development with clarity and explanation.
I love carving demonstrations. Graham Potter is really good too
The best bonsai videos. The BEST!
Glad you like them!
Major Improvement already. Looking forward to the second half. Thank you for sharing you knowledge with us.
Very interesting dead wood work to learn how to do it. Looking forward to the second part of the video. Thanks for sharing. Greetings and until the next video👍😄
Very beneficial video to watch for any interested in carving bonsai
WOW great job so far and looking forward to part 2!
Love that! Genuinely inspiring 👌🏻
The carving design and restyling look great. Still think the upper Jin should be reduced “more”. Looking forward to the next videos on the work on the tree.
As an ameture enthusiast I learn so much from watching your videos 👍
AMAZING TRUNK!!!
Love the carving its a great skill to have and to be able to do properly , you can see the tree changing and already looking forward to see it being trimmed . Keep up the great video's guy's!!
Amazing work
Amazing work! I love to do that kind of work too. Thank you!
Very interesting carving technique with the Dremel.
Thanks Corin. Looks like this is going to be an interesting tree development.
Corin, thank you so much for your knowledge and willingness to share it with the world. You make incredible videos and a master at bonsai. Tim
Beautiful carving
Great video as usual , concrete rose .....Great music. Looking forward to part two when you sort the apex etc. Rather partial to a tidy beaver.....
It looks like it's suffered a lighning strike that created the burnt shari! 👍😎😎
Looking much better already.
Love the video
Amazing that didn't set off the smoke alarm...!
I will surely tune in,,, in a weeks time. ...I just love that deadwood.
Thank you
Stunning!
Great timing. I am about to do a bit of carving on a yew that partly died off. Hopefully the result will be close to your work.
I don't know how many times I've burned a piece of wood with my Dremel, then spent an hour or so sanding it away. I never realized that I could make that burn part of my finished design. And I never thought of deliberately burning in design elements. You keep your eyes and ears open and you can learn useful things every day.
Love your videos, best on UA-cam keep up the good work!
Those needles look so soft and pillow like.
Yes white pine from seedling. Softer more delicate needles
I like that you didnt go for the lime sulphur, it is nice to look at and has its place in some bonsai but i feel it lacks some withering when its fresh.
Nice video. Some good tips. Bonsai aside, is that a Christopher Ward on your wrist - a good choice
Very interesting tree and nice video :)
Corin, do you have a name for the bits you used on the two grinders please? Really helpful video.
Way to take on a tree that most would not look at twice.
very nice Video, i like your Thinking....i am exactly with you. These ultrawhite Parts are not natural i think, as you said. Your Style looks natural, i cut down many BIG Trees, i know about
love the videos could we have an update on your air layers. Especially those pods. Here in australia I am planning for spring keep seeing those pods on Ebay.
The top looks like a dragon to me
Beautiful carving done by a master class artist.
I just wish the cameraman didn’t have Parkinson…
I almost got seasick 😅
Thanks Corin. I had never seen that technique before. Allowing the cutter head to heat up to the point off burning the wood. Are you using a dull wheel or cutter?
I'm using a "well used" cutter
Great video, so what would a tree like this one cost?
The new carving looks so much better than the white stained wood. Is there a clear preservative, such as polyurethane, that could be used to preserve the new carving? Also, I think removing the moss would help and a different shape and color of pot. The tree is looking great. Enjoy your ideas with the bonsai.
Yes, I will treat it, tune in for part 2
Good job
It definitely looks like it’s going in the right direction. Is there anyway to treat the deadwood with anything else than lime sulfur ? Leaving it untreated will lead to deteriorating the deadwood correct ?
I will treat it, tune in next week
well done m8
Great video. ! Love the channel. How did u get the wood to darken? Did u use a different kind of bit on the dremmel? And that bit smokes the wood?
a well used cutter I use for this
What sort of tool did you use to do the black lines
a little tool that looks like a 10mm circular saw blade and was fairly blunt, and used higher speed
Love the music!!!!!!! Are they friends of yours?
Hey yes the it’s a member of staff/camera mans band, Concrete Rose
They are local to Nottingham
Check them out on Spotify iTunes etc
@concreteroseband
I certainly will👍
I've seen people use dyed lime sulfer to give accents to trees, have you ever tried that?
yes of course
Tq master ilmuya
Where can I find that tip on eBay I don’t know what’s it called i can’t find it
Look for bonsai nibbler
Good stuff Col! Could watch you carve for awhile. Thanks mate
fuckin love what you did there!
The price of this tree?
"Nice Beaver" - Airplane. 😂

All that smoke makes me want to cough!!!
I believe you should never create a jin unless nature caused it. So many people snapping branches off because they have to have unnecessary jin.
I'm itching bro🤢
Awesome! So beautiful.
