Thank you! Janette and I both hate saying it as it seems so self-serving but we have noticed that since doing so, it really helps the views and our channels grow. So thank you very much! We appreciate the support.
@@fortheloveofpuzzles and @janetteandherpuzzles - I absolutely agree with @heymichelleritter - I am also grateful for the reminder. I love both of your channels, and because I'm enjoying the videos I often forget to like, and then UA-cam takes me onto another video and it's a pallaver to find the video I've just watched... 🤪 so don't feel bad at all, it really helps us to support you!!
In Hungary this year, there were two categories, an ‘amateur’ and a ‘professional’ for individuals to enter! Great video, love the photos at the end as well 🎉
Enjoyed watching the two of you together. Was telling friends today how wonderful it is to share the love of puzzling with people from around the world. The past few weeks have been so much fun. Thanks to you and Janette for making us feel a part of the fun.
Thank you for watching and commenting - it means so much to both Janette and I. We had the best time together. And I agree, sharing our love of puzzling with all our puzzle pals was the best! 💜🧩
I agree with Clark- at some point they will need to narrow things down- maybe it's different tiers but when they give 90 min and part of the group is done in 30 min and the rest done in 90, seems waste of time really and more stress on the slower ones.
It does get a bit stressful when you are still puzzling but everyone around you is done even if you are doing an amazing time. I'm not sure the answer. It'll be interesting to see if they change anything for next year. 💜🧩
How I wish I could get a hold of the Valladolid puzzle! I was literally crying when I realised that only 4 countries were able to buy the exclusive puzzles. Loved this video, you are both always a joy to watch! thank you ladies
Alison was also so upset when she figured out that the puzzles are not available everywhere either. Hopefully they will be distributed worldwide before next year's competition. I really want to get a copy of the Puzzle People puzzle now by the same artist.
I think they should tell us which 10 puzzles they will potentially use in the qualifying rounds so that people could buy them and practice. That would be most fair.
Interesting! As long as they could make them available for purchase and shipping worldwide. Like say 3 months in advance they could release the 10 puzzles and people everywhere (not just in certain countries) could be able to buy whatever puzzles they wanted. Good marketing strategy too! 💜🧩
So great to see you two together. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Some of my most cherished memories have been on road trips with friends. Congrats on your performance!
This was such a fun video! You two obviously had a good time! Great thoughts about the competition and the positive approaches you took this year in puzzling.
Maybe a certain number of qualifying puzzlers in each country would go directly to the semifinals, and the preliminary groups could be for all others to try to qualify.
Oh that's a great idea also!!! They have that in many other sports in which certain people already advance to the semis and don't need to qualify. I like it!!!
@@fortheloveofpuzzles and doing this could eliminate the country rule for the preliminaries, since countries will be represented by those earning a direct trip to the semifinals
Dividing the qualifying rounds between "Competitive" and "Casual" would possibly be a good incentive to get more people to sign up. But then combine the semifinals, in case a dark horse emerges in qualifiers. Like Alice Rowe at US Nationals. She was literally in the back row in qualifiers, then took home the championship at the end.
@@QuiltedKittenFosters Good idea to then combine the groups back again for the semi-finals! Alice is so lovely - met and chatted with her at Worlds. I love when a dark horse emerges in a competition - it was amazing to see her puzzling on the USA livestreams. 💜🧩
Ravensburger is the sponsor of the event so that's why they supply the puzzles. If another puzzle company sponsors this they need to have a large selection of puzzles and they would have to be able make enough puzzles for this large of an event.
It's tricky one indeed! I'm sure there would be other companies who would love to sponsor the event. I'm not sure how it would work with multiple sponsors though...companies would probably not like that.
@@jmason1770 I think artist should be preparing works now already in hopes of being chosen for next year's competition. But yeah, the number of puzzles needed in quite large - this year would have been 15x 500pc and 15x 1000pc all with different images.
6:33 there could be something like they do it in Golf, where you get information on a puzzle that repeatedly competes. some form of scoreboard. because it also feels like a bit of a "cheat" to say "oh i wanna go to group B and not A" but then you completely rock at group B because youre already a very good puzzler. so instead of having participants choose from their own judgement, some kind of scoreboard could tell "for your skill level you belong to this and that group" - i agree that this could make planning easier for future events and still allow everyone from around the world to compete in a comfortable challenge-environment, for the case that the event keeps growing.
I did hear a story about a competition in the US - maybe it was that winter carnival one - in which they have like a more competitive fast group and then a casual group. And some people chose to puzzle in the lower group because they didn't want to wake up early but they were top speed puzzlers and it made that group unbalanced. There would definitely need to be some way of ranking people in to their respective groups. 💜🧩
I thought that the puzzling competition has been promoted for everyone to enjoy. Also, the country rule they have shows that they want countries to participate that don't have associations or large numbers of puzzlers. They would be excluded since they'd have to travel to join a different country holding a national contest. It just seems to go against their philosophy of inclusion. I do think this competition is also great for promoting puzzling to new puzzlers which increases sales of puzzles worldwide. Limiting by qualification would go against that. Instead, I think a brand new competition designed for exclusion - only the best can get in - could be started as a way to prepare for the impossible dream of having puzzling as part of the Olympics - I doubt that would ever happen since chess (similar) isn't part of it. I agree with Janette - it would be uncomfortable. It's not what this competition is about. But Janette's idea of a super speed puzzler category within this whole competition is an interesting idea - could work.
They definitely want it to be a Worldly event which is one thing I love about it. Could you imagine Chess and Speed Puzzling at the Olympics!! That would be amazing! I do like the idea of the categories also. Puzzlers could be ranked and then classified in groups A and B. I'm one of those that would be at bottom of group A but could be nearer top of group B so it might be difficult to classify me. It's all very interesting though and I am curious to see if they make any changes next year. 💜🧩
According to the live stream for the World Jigsaw Championship, they are working to get speed puzzling into the Olympics. If I remember correctly, they are working to make it into the Australian Olympics in 2032.
I clicked on the link to Janette's channel for the other half of this Q & A video and it says the video is for members only. I thought it was for subscribers etc like this one is...
We are in such different time zones that I think mine was released early. Her’s should be released for everyone to watch within 24hrs. Members get to watch our videos early and hers should go public soon. 💜🧩
The USA speed puzzling competition this year had 100% unreleased puzzles from Ravensburger, but it isn't as large of a competition as Worlds. Busy Birdies, Sweet Street, Air Balloon Valley, and Celestial Constellations were some of the unreleased puzzles used.
