Hi Donnalouise, I met you at the Australian Nationals last year, you were so nice to encourage my mum and me as it was our first time competing. I remember you saying how you hadn't cracked the hour mark yet, but that was your goal. I watched some of the World's live this year and I saw your time on the results page and was so happy for you. Seeing your emotion in this video made me tear up! Congratulations!! (Rachel)
Hi Rachel! I never ever imagined that I would achieve that in competition - I was so overjoyed and proud!!! Are you planning on going to Melbourne in December for the Australian Nationals? It was lovely meeting you and your mum last year.
Yay! Under an hour at a competition! So proud of you! My mom and I were cheering for you during the livestream, and as you finished we welled up with happy tears right along with you... We just wanted to keep jumping and shouting for joy, we were so proud!
Thank you!! I was so happy to see that so many were watching the livestreams. I loved commentating as well. I was so overwhelmed and happy with my finish. I real moment for me even with the ugly crying. hehehe
Wow Donnalouise you know how to make a girl cry 😅. I cried when you finished your individual round on livestream, now at the end of your video with audio of your finish I cried again, so very proud of you, so very well done. 💕
Great recap Donna louise, I was supposed to be there, but my husband had a series of falls, broke both arms and I couldn't leave him on his own. Definitely will see you next year ! 🌍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🌍
Wooo, the highlight of the competition, getting a puzzle done in under an hour. 👍👍👍 Not surprised that you cried when you finished that. It seems that the competition was pretty stiff this year. Some puzzles more difficult than others and quite a few surprises in the images that appeared. No circular or panoramas this year. Look forward to seeing the rest of the videos about your trip to Worlds.
The competition was so fierce this year! When you can't qualify on times of even 40-50mins, that shows how fast some of these puzzlers are getting! It was so much fun! I was surprised that there were no circle puzzles and then they through in a licensed one. You just never know what to expect!
What a great time for your individual competition! So happy for you! I watched for you, but oh there were so many people this year! I was thrilled each time I saw you. I'm glad you had such a good time. What a lovely image you had for this puzzle. It's got to be hard when some people have been able to practice an image, but so many zoom through on a puzzle they have never seen before, so there really isn't a right answer. So proud of you! 🇨🇦 🇳🇿
It is a bit difficult to hear how many Europeans had done all of the preliminary puzzles before - some many times. I would love to see all the puzzles being unreleased ones used. I think this would be a great marketing scheme for Ravensburger as well - everyone would want to buy all the puzzles!
That was my initial thought as well. I think though that the marketing is that you all want to try the puzzles before, so if there are 1000 potential puzzles, they want people to purchase as many of them as possible before the competition, then all the ones released as they appear new at competition. If they would only use puzzles that are released worldwide that would make it a bit better. Most people knew that Paris would be in, so I'm sure almost everyone found that one, but in small countries it would be difficult to get it. It becomes very expensive to compete if you don't have a large group of people to swap with! If I was in Toronto it would be possible, but here on Cape Breton Island it would be a huge challenge. I'm so happy you have an amazing sponsor, and a very supportive husband. @@fortheloveofpuzzles
Thank you! It's always nervous commentating trying to balance what to discuss. But I have heard many people enjoyed the livestreams so I'm glad that many watched and could enjoy Worlds from the comfort of their home.
I really loved all the unreleased puzzles this year - so much fun and all illustrations apart from the pairs semi-finals collage one which did have some illustration aspects to it. 💜🧩
Hi Donnalouise. Excellent recap. I really appreciate your “glass half full” experiences. While I do love true experiences being shared, I love the upside of being at the competition.
What an amazing recap, Donnalouise! Well done to you for your puzzling accomplishments as well as for this video that perfectly captured the fun, excitement and emotion of being there and of competing.
There is just dust in my eyes, nothing more, totally not crying... I was so happy to able to see you finish on livestream, so so happy for you. Missed half of the wjpc livestreams cause of work. 😐 And when i was able to watch i couldnt puzzle same time what i had planned, there was so fast puzzlers so didnt want to miss anything.
I enjoyed the recap video, thank you for the details. It was so much fun to watch you guys compete at worlds. I sent a personal message to Alejandro and he replied to me within 24 hours while worlds was going on. Who does that? He truly is incredible, humble and gentle. I am not surprised you getting emotional during competition. You are super genuine and that is refreshing to see. Reason why people connect with you. Now time to puzzle for leisure. Chao 😃👋
I am using my new phone which I’ve had for a few months but I think it’s Janette’s ringlight that made the big difference. So I went and ordered one to use back in NZ. Hope it makes a good difference. Lighting and sound are always issues! 💜🧩
Once again, thank you Donnalouise for this wonderful video summary of the Worlds - individual category, despite not being able to get past the first round and even though you achieved your best time in a competition!! It's incredible how you describe everything you've experienced these days. If I didn't know the rankings, I would think you were among the top 10!!! Congratulations on those 30,000 followers!!!
Thank you so much Alfonso!! I had the most fun and rewarding time at Worlds! What an amazing event! Thank you so much for everything you do for the puzzling community! It was great seeing everyone and I can’t wait until next year. Bring 2025!! 💜🧩
Somehow when you did the intro, the first 15sec or so, I didnt even notice anything being unusual about the setup in the background. "ah nice, many colors, stacked puzzle showcasing the ones you are going to talk about" - im probably used to seeing janettes setup so my head didnt notice an error when it appeared on YOUR video :D
Hi. Love from NZ. Well done at Worlds. I’m doing an online speed puzzling competition on Saturday - I’ve been practising hard and watching your videos for tips. I’m also going to do the Auckland speed puzzling competition next year. I was a volunteer there this year and had the pleasure to meet you. X.
Thank you so much! Is that online competition with the NZJPA? Just remember to have fun and not put too much pressure on yourself. It was nice meeting you as well and glad you will compete in Auckland next year. It is loads of fun.
Loved your recap of the individual rounds - and particular enjoyed your preamble about your overall experience at the event - because if one is going to travel that kind of distance, it has to be about more than just the competition itself - the people would be a huge part of it, the camaraderie, old friends, new friends, the town, the culture, all of it. How wonderful that you got to Europe far enough in advance to get comfortable in the time zone and with travel etc. With regard to your Round A puzzle, I think I heard Kristin say that she had done this puzzle before, and in fact I think she said she had done it faster the time before - like 25 min or something. So its possible that the high completion rate had to do with so many Europeans having access to it prior to competition, since the rest of the world clearly had access to Hello Vinyl and Postcard from Paris before the comp.
Yes, the trip is about so much more than just the competition and I am so grateful that I got to go and spend time with so many amazing people. I would like to see all puzzles used at Worlds - even in the preliminary rounds - to be unreleased. I feel that would definitely even the playing field a little bit more.
Fabulous photos, loved you caught up with some of my other favourite UA-camrs, Janette of course but also Vesna, Russell and Emilee, just needed Vicky and all my favs would be there.
I just did the Postcard from Paris puzzle and was missing one piece...I was a bit sad. But likely I lost it and it didn't come like that. You all are so fast!. I can't imagine doing any puzzle under 1hr. Congrats on the competition!
Ah bummer...my puzzle in Canada actually had an extra piece. Thank you so much! There are some really fast puzzlers out there! I had so much fun at the competition.

I really like your box top holder!! thnak you Doug and Devon father Dave.. i wonder if that Doug makes other things too...thast awesome you guys came in 3RD place in the quiz!! and to get a nice gesture about sharing in the quiness record team as a honuraym memeber!! thank you USA! I gave her the biggest hug! Thank you so much for watching and commenting - it means so much to me. And yes, this is Janette's house - I am still in Slovenia but start my long journey back to NZ on Monday evening.
I'd have a tiny preference for Ocean Whimsy over Flowerjungle just because I prefer a landscape orientation to portrait. I love the footage of your individual finish 🥲💜🧩
Absolutely! If you have the time and money to come to the competition, if you love puzzling, if you want to meet other puzzles, if you enjoy watching other speed puzzle and if you want to get copies of unreleased puzzle then yes, absolutely it is worth coming. They had a screen outdoors for people to watch what was happening. They had extra tables up for people to puzzle. You could buy nearly all the puzzles. It was great meeting everyone and chatting. So even if you only puzzled one round, I think it is well worth it and you would have an amazing time. 💜🧩
@@fortheloveofpuzzles Donnalouise do you have videos of how to prepare for this? like what kind of puzzles to do and so on? Ill definitely wont be able to make it to the finals, but at least I can prepare myself for 2025 and document the process!
@@lordsp I have a bunch of different videos over the past two years talking about competitions, techniques and strategies. Not one specific video but a bit of information in different ones. Question - Should they have pulled for all the Ravensburger catalogs evenly not so heavily European’s catalog? Was Alejandro having eye issues during the competition?
I agree that the preliminary puzzles favoured many European countries due to availability. Personally, I would like to see it go further and have all puzzles be unreleased, even for the preliminary rounds. This would prevent them from using puzzle predominantly from one catalogue. I don't think Alejandro had issues with his eyes - he wears glasses most of the time when he puzzles.
One of the things that I found amazing is that Kelly Walter is in her final year of medical school! How does she have time to do medical school and to practice speed puzzling to compete at such a high level?! I heard her say she can't compete next year because she will be beginning her medical residency.
