  • Earlier this year I fitted a custom rear anti role bar. I've been asked by a lot of people about this so thought I'd share with you how to make and fit your own Sway Bar / Anti Role Bar.

    Fantastic - Great video [Craggle RC]...Yes what a wonderful cure for the twisting when accelerating issue. Completed this with your advice just using a coat hanger (free upgrade) that is already plastic coated - 3mm also like most of them. No more twisting at all and now sorts out the problem a great solution and a great video for the explanation. :) big thumbs up for posting this Craggle RC.

      Ha! A coat hanger... I never thought of that! Lol well done! Yes it’s worked a treat, totally changed the way it drives now, you can actually drive it hard as intended without losing traction rendering it just rear wheel drive.

    Hi I’m a complete beginner in RC cars and I am planning on getting the Outlaw as my first RC but I did notice on other videos how the front right wheel kept lifting up and this was bugging me but couldn’t find any videos on why it did it or how to fix it, so thank you your video was very helpful.
    Would like to see a video of your sway bar in action.

      Hi Adrian thanks for your comment! Have a look at my other videos, you'll see a few development videos I've done of the Outlaw, one called "Speed Trial 4" shows how well the anti role bar keeps those 4 wheels on the ground.

      Craggle RC Hi just watched the speed test video the sway bar works well. So as I say I’m a complete beginner in the rc world so where do I get the metal bar from and the other parts you got? Thanks

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  7 років тому +1

      eBay's your best bet for it all to be honest. Search for 2.8mm or 3mm stainless rod for models, and I used a Kyosho Inferno sway bar kit (that's a 1/8 Rallycross buggy), I couldn't find any kits in the uk so had to order from the US, but was at my house in less than a week. Hope that helps matey!

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  6 років тому +1

      Hi, yes I don’t see why not so long as it’s not too flimsy. By adding the bar it’s completely resolved the 3WD issue by helping to keep all 4 wheels on the ground for the best possible traction.

    • @RCShowdown

      @@cramalnig Thanks for the quick response! I asked because I constructed a new sway bar mount (the part that brakes the chassis in a Crash, I hope you know what I mean 😁) and 3D printed it. And now I'm curious if a threated rod rubs the printed mount apart.

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  5 років тому

      With it being an abrasive face compared to a smooth bar then I suppose the new part would wear quicker, but nonetheless it’d still work well. Nice one!

      @@cramalnig I just found out something very interesting - the original anti roll bar on my truck didn't work. It was wiggly and didn't compensate the torsion of the axle. But I just found a way to make it work: On the top part, (the part that is attached to the rod) there are two threaded holes which fit an M3 Screw. By adding these four Screws the anti roll bar becomes useful - well okay we will see how effective this is but ...hey. :D It seems that they just forgot to add these Screws in the Factory!

    Quick question could you not have placed the swaybar throught the next hole down on the arm link so it makes it easy to remove the uppet arm link or is there a problem doing it this way?
    My Outlaw is turning up tomorrow and this will be the first thing i mod.
    Love you videos on this car.

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  7 років тому

      Hi, thanks for the question and taking a look! I looked at so many positional options to fit it, using the lower hole would result in the role bar running against the rear prop shaft, using the higher one gives it better clearance and it kills two birds with one stone as it supports the rear link arms at the same time. Mine has touched the prop shaft very slightly but that’s on extreme suspension movement. Easily cured by raising the rear end on the shock towers. Keep me posted on how you get on with it! Is yours the brushless version?

    • @rct2

    found out why back end spinning out only rear wheel drive so some things broke or loose

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  6 років тому

      Hello again, yes sounds like somethings come adrift there. The custom rear sway bar will keep the wheels true, both my Outlaws don’t veer off to a side now, they accelerate straight and true and don’t lift that front right wheels anymore.
      When the car is off the ground and you accelerate, is any drive going to the front axles at all (wheels spin fairly slow, one more so than the other perhaps)? If so, check the drive cups on either side of the front diff, as you rotate the stub axles out to each wheel hub you’ll see a small grub screw for an Allen key, one of those maybe loose.
      Or, are just the rear axles spinning and front wheels remain stationary? If so, then the plastic drive inside on the spur gear is chewed and the metal dog bone (front prop shaft) has wore it away. Let me know!

    • @kevinbosworth3
      @kevinbosworth3 6 років тому +1

      hi it was the grub screw that came loose front centre diff its got 4 wheel drive now i had to put a sixth hole on my swing arm as mine did not have one did not make a good job of it mine is still lifting the wheel also the other wheel but now then it slides the back end out to the side but thats because its like having a 2 wheel drive to much power to the back whheels my links are as forward as i can get them is that why its still lifting also my bar that i used is off a cooker shelf rack im not shore if its rigid enough im going to put up a video soon thanks for all your help would it help if i stiffened up the rear shocks

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  6 років тому

      Mine still goes very well off-road, it travels much better with speed, doesn’t lift that front right hand wheel anymore so there’s all 4 wheels giving traction. Peace of mind with the steel shaft, who knows when or if the plastic shaft would’ve worn.

      Hi Tony, yes sorry I didn't put that down in the description. The rods I bought came in 300mm lengths, just trim to suit then when it's fitted. You can see the tails of the rod sticking out behind the little link arms on my Outlaw. All it needs is those cutting off.

    • @cramalnig

    How did it affect the articulation of the rear axle?

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  7 років тому

      When it's running I can see very little difference to be honest in how the axle behaves, the way it bends on various gradients over rocks etc with the weight of the car and speeds it has when covering rough ground the suspension still travels freely on either side at a time. Having the bar fitted has helped to bring the car down so it's more planted. I found the car is now a lot more direct and doesn't wander so much as it did before.

    • @cramalnig
      @cramalnig  6 років тому

      Hi Kev, I looked but couldn’t see your new video. Play could be coming from any hinge point on the car, steering play is it? Check the following:
      All wheels are tightly held on
      Hex drives (behind the wheels) aren’t worn, are they plastic or Ali?
      Rear trailing arms aren’t snapped which makes the rear axle twist around a bit, making the car veer off
      Front suspension arms - screws aren’t loose
      Any snapped components on the suspension front and rear.
      Is the servo alright or does it click when “steering”?
      Are the tyres still adhered to their wheels?

      If it needs to be removed for replacement of other parts then just disconnect the the little link arm and straighten out one side as best you can and slide it out. To perhaps make things easier I was originally looking for some sort of half moon clamp arrangement to attach it to the car but couldn't find anything suitable. I think it would be quicker though to straighten a rod & slide out than unscrew 4 small fiddly screws on two half moon clamps with what I had in mind. Then again, how many times could the rod be straightened out and bent again before it snaps? I'd just fit another new rod then seen as several came in 1 pack.
