- Affordable tools can be hard to find, you always lose a bit of quality, but finding that balance between quality and affordability can be a moving target that different people will argue over. Beaver craft endeavors to walk that line of delivering affordable tools that will get the job done.

Thank you for your review😍 We are happy to help you in your carvings😊
One of the things I like about your reviews is that you don't let the high-end products be the only thing that is good enough to use. You candidly admit they are not as good and explain why they are not as good as a higher-quality knife, as well as let us know that they are good enough for the beginner/novice. Thanks for a terrific review!
Thanks for this video. I’m interested in getting into carving someday (when kids are a bit over) and appreciate you going through the different things you look at when selecting certain tools.
I always find your videos helpful and informative. Especially a product review like this. Thank you!
Thanks for the great, honest review! Very much enjoyed watching your take on these!
Thanks for the info. It's always good to hear your thoughts.
Good timing, thanks, James! I just started carving - first celtic knot this week! I've wondered about these knives and it's good to have an expert opinion. Looking to make a love spoon for the wife for Christmas.
Just wanted to say that I really appreciate your honest opinions of tools. You have a knack for cutting through the BS and getting straight to what’s important.
I would definitely love to see more wood carving videos it’s something I would love to learn and get into my grandfather was a great wood carver but he passed away before I was ever able to learn anything from him so I need all the help I can get to carry on family tradition
Thanks! I never carved wood before but after seeing some of the stuff you make like the workbench i feel like this is something id like doing. Thanks for the tips 👍
I have had a curved gouge from Beavercraft for about a year, and am very pleased with it for carving cups and bowls, have just received a knife blade and other tools from them, I will be interested to see you put the handle on yours. Great show, look forward to the next one always. Steve
It'd be fun to try and get into this activity, thanks for giving the set away and thanks for the great videos!
Great vid James! Can’t wait to see what you have carved.
I bought this set two years ago and I am quite impressed with them I also picked up a spoon carving as well as a bent gouge. They have served me well.
Good morning, thank you for all you do for us enjoying and learning from your content!
I bought a Beavercraft spoon gouge to try my hand at spoon carving, and felt about the same. sharp out of the box and ready to strop, not a lifetime tool, but let me gauge my level of interest in the craft. I kept it but soon upgraded to a Pfeil, and found my carving benefited quickly from the higher quality tool. BC seems to be a good company geared towards beginners, and fast to deliver thru Amazon. Glad to see you show these, as chip carving is high on my list of skills to try. Looking very much foward to seeing you do more chip carving.
I’ve been carving spoons, but your video has inspired me to try chip carving. I’ll look into these knives. Gracias👍🙏🏼
been wondering about what to buy you just made it easier thanks ! BTW love your video's super helpful
Really enjoyed the video, especially the beaver outtake at the end.
Love the channel and I have got some great info from it. Keep it up, Wrights!
Carving is something I've been wanting to get into, I've been making wooden combs lately that would look ace with some geometric patterns. Great help thanks
Someone gave me a beaver craft knife a few weeks back. It took some work sharpening but I like the little knife.
I have been thinking about having a go at chip carving. Thank you for this!
I like it when craving tools come in a storage wrap. Easy to grab and to keep track of the tools.
Just few days ago ordered spoon knife and long-bent gouge from BeaverCraft. Thank you for review.
Another great video. Looking forward to your handle making video. I've been making several handles lately and I would love to see how you make them. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your honest review! Would love to have a set of carving knives!
I've never heard of chip carving, I 'd like to give it a try. Cant wait to see your upcoming video!
I have a couple of those to use when I carve spoons and bowls and I found them to work pretty well as a beginner.
Awesome testing and review, James! 😃
Thanks a lot!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Congrats man. you won the knife set. Just get me your mailing adress!
I have only carved once. I enjoyed it, but need much more practice. Enjoy your videos and always appreciate your positivity. Looking forward to watching many more videos and learning something new each time!
I have a BeaverCraft chip carving knife, and it's nice for me as a beginner. I'm not a big fan of the handle, though, so I've been considering getting one of their blanks and making my own. Looking forward to your video about making a handle, that would probably help a lot. :)
Love the video just getting into it could really use those. Thanks for the info really helps.
I am a dabbling in spoon carving and bought some beaver craft tools. For a beginner, I was very pleased with the price. They sell a tougher to find, especially affordably, long handled hook knife. It works left or right handed if I recall. They come sharp enough to dig into pine. Those beginner tools are always nice as backups or to pass on to the next generation of woodworkers as we step up to the more expensive brands. I really appreciate your reviews!
Thanks for doing the review, I inherited a couple of carving knives. They had been sitting in a basement for years, were rusty and pitted. I cleaned them up and sharpened them. I make sure to always wear safety glasses in case one snaps especially given the weakness. Since I do not do a lot of chip carving I might look into these. It would only be a hobby as chip carved pieces here sell for very low prices (detailed coasters sell for about $12)
Good video! Always like watching tool reviews. Been interested in giving chip carving a try. Right now I mostly do spoon and kuksa carving.
I love to hear your take on these cheaper/ entry level tools.
Excited to see your chip carving tutorial
Thanks for the quick explanation of chip carving, as I really wasn't sure what it was. Interested to see the longer video on it. I'm just getting into spoon carving now, which means more tools to buy!
Here is an old video doing it to my shoes. ua-cam.com/video/vuP9fzEPdLQ/v-deo.html
Thank you for the tool reviews on beginners tools. I am thinking of starting some carving for fun. The beavers in your area must be impressive metal workers. 😀
My wife and I have been watching the channel for a while and we have built up trust in your advice because even though you are incredibly skilled, you are still very modest and humble. We saw a video of someone carving a bear and my wife loved it and I've wanting to save up and get a set as a gift for her. So I'd love it if you would ship the set to us in the UK, we would happily do a video reply with our experiences with it too.
Solid video as always James
Thanks fir the review. I have been wanting to try chip carving.
I have learnt so much from your videos. Thank you for guiding my woodworking journey. :)
I would love to see a video on the basics of chip carving! I have no experience with it and I'd imagine it's pretty easy to cut too far past the chip into the workpiece. Definitely would consider picking these knives up as it looks like a fun way to pass an evening
am loving my drawknife from Beavercraft! It's a small detail-work joint, Good stuff and sharp out of the box. Gonna keep checking out some carving tools
If you fill the holes with more epoxy, you can trim the handles closer to the steel.
I have a beginners set, they seem ok and your review is spot on.
Never even heard of chip carving, seems like a neat concept, probably give it a try sometime
Well That Was A Bummer!!! (I Mean As In Bending) Thank You James For All The Info & Suggestions!!!! 🤦♂️🤷♂️🤔👍😎
Never had time to try wood carving but will be retiring soon and would love to try it.
Fair review as always. Thanks!
Nice. I have these in my Amazon cart. Just hesitating until there was a decent review.
Thanks for the review James, I’d like to give chip carving a try and the Beavercraft knives may be an affordable way to give it a go.
Thanks for this review, I live in an apartment, so hand tools an smaller projects is the way to go. If I don't win this chip carving set, I'll need to purchase a set to try this form of woodcraft.
Love your channel! I’d like the carving set!
I can't wait to see the new handle
I don't have any wood carving tools but that's a good review to watch and learn 😊 , thanks mr James 👍 .
I have had Beavercraft carving knives for a few months now, and they have done me well. I have much smaller hands than you but I still also find the point on the end of the handle bothersome. I plan on sanding it done to a more rounded end and see how that feels. I feel like the flat handles need a slightly different contour also, been thinking about maybe an indentation for a finger grip. Overall, I agree with your assessment, they are good knives for learning. Great video, thanks!
Good video. Have been considering getting some carving knives.
Many thanks for another review. I have never owned the brand but was wondering about them.
Thanks for being honest with your intial reaction to the chip carving knives!
They seem very adequate for someone like me who is a carving hobbyist. Nice job on the review. Love your humor😂
Good review, I have a couple of flex cut chip knives and enjoy carving.
Thanks for the video!
Looks like a good set of knives to get started with. Just the thing an old guy like myself needs.
Would love to try them out thanks for the opportunity
Love Wood By Wright. learning much especially about sharpening my wood working tools from your vids. Built by beavers, ha your funny
Thanks for this review. It was helpful not only for the specific product information, but to show me what to consider when buying carving tools. I think there's a place for decent affordable tools that let you decide if you enjoy a task before you invest more money in it.
I would love to see you do some wood block carving with them! and then go through the process of getting it printed .
I bought their spoon carving gouge for ocarina making and it's just about the sharpest blade I've ever seen from the factory. It's carved walnut, pine, and cherry like butter, and I'm just now getting to where I need to strop it after almost a solid hour of use.
Love your videos James, chip carving is something I haven't tried yet.
I'd like to give those a try :D
Thx for the Video
Your sharpening comments are a great argument for getting cheaper tools for stuff like this vs jumping into an expensive/higher quality set.
im a nervous sharpener and not confident, so the cheap knives are better because i feel less nervous about doing it wrong
Haven't tried chip carving yet, would like to give it a shot!
I’d probably use these to do some Celtic carvings, it seems like it would be a interesting touch to add to a piece
Nice demo!
I had seen chip carved items, but didn’t know that they were chip carved. Looking forward for your video on the subject!
Never heard of Beaver Craft. Looking foward to youmaking a handle for the blade.
I agree with you 100% I got one of their knives. Very nice for the price but yes keep the strop handy.
Chip carving isn't something I am familiar with but would be keen to see a video of how it is done and what can be done with it. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work.
Those wide blades look intriguing ive only got a flex cut chip knife for now and it's a fun hobby
I've never really tried carving, I'm more of a DIY joiner myself. I look forward to seeing you can produce with chip carving.
I like your no-holds-barred opinions. Do not send me the knives - I have no need.
Hi, I´d love to give it a try to these knives. Greetings from Brazil!
I have the hook knife and bent gouge from yhem and really like them both! The gouge has been really really decent and has a better handle. I actually kind of appreciated the bulky hook knife handle because I just shaped it to my hand.
I'm not really into chip carving, but I can definitely see a use for the 2 bigger ones in antique repair...
I have been using Beavercraft carving knives (not chip carving knives) and strops for about a year. Good value for the money IMO.
Thanks for your value based rating. “For the money, not bad”
Chip carving is an excellent entry point for someone interested in carving. The best wood is basswood 1/4” thick so it’s also very affordable-you can purchase the basswood at any craft store.
Im diggin the shirt, but that seems like and interesting alternative for whittling and general detail work
I've got a gouge, sloyd, and spoon carving knife from Beaver craft. They're great little tools. The steel is a tiny bit of the soft side but that's not a deal breaker for me
I have a hook knife and would love to try the chip carving knives
these look like decent beginner knives. great video!
I bought their spoon carving knives and quickly found out I wanted to do spoon carving as a hobby and very quickly realized I wanted some different knives. My opinion of the knives, at least, is that the quality is such that it left me frustrated as a beginner, the tools weren't good enough to do even basic work.
I would look into hardening them also. I have used some that had the blades hardened and they held their edges better. Like you, I tend to prefer a longer handle also. By the way, I drove a new DeLorian, when I bought my TR-7. It was a nice car, but a little underpowered.
I’m a blacksmith and I make a lot of woodworking tools. Would love to test this set out. Greetings from the land of wooden shoes 🇳🇱
I have the small draw knife that they offer. And based on your review, I picked up a set of the Schaaf chisels. The draw knife is well centered in the handles, and holds a decent edge for softer woods that I work with. I would like to see your take on the Ramelson carving knives. Or some feedback from a fellow viewer who has experience with them.
Would love to see how to make handles for these
Honestly, this type of thing sounds like it would be great for me. I have been woodworking for about a decade, but have never done any carving. It always seemed like there were so many different carving tool options, I get overwhelmed by the choice & go back to things I know better.
