Raanan would make light work out of documentary dismissal. "The acting was bad", "Why is that guy talking so much?", I have to be honest, I hate the soundtrack", "I know it's a documentary, but you don't find this drags a bit?", "A little too patriarchal for my liking", "I don't know...I just found that it was a little too truthful", etc.
It's painfully obvious that he is saying it just to be silly. He knows that he shouldn't be saying "cut". Raanan isn't as dumb as he makes people think.
Btw old timey paper towels were actually 1 long fabric towel. The clean portion is stored separately from the dirty. Eventually it runs out and the entire towel is replaced and washed.
Can you guys take clips of Joe trying to convince Raanan that 12 Angry Men is a good movie in black and white as a parody of the movie itself? edit: I wrote this comment before Raanan said it felt like they were in 12 Angry Men. I could've deleted the initial comment but this is a lesson to wait to comment after I finish watching the episode. Please don't think I'm a bad person
I’ve watched every episode of this podcast and I still have no barometer at all as to what movies you guys will like. I watched the devil movie randomly a couple years ago and my first reaction was - “oh this was made in that year where digital cameras first got popular and people didn’t know how to use them yet” and when the movie ended I was like “eh. Ok.” I never would have thought you would pick that movie to talk about
thinking 12 Angry Men is just OK is a pretty wild take. this is the only podcast that regularly delivers confounding takes like that, and I appreciate it
Some might think Joe gets too angry in some eps, but to be fair, Raanan does bring up some interesting sincere takes that kind of take some of the lustre out of Joe's favorites. So, really, this is about Joe focusing and standing firm on certain aspects he admires like camera movement, heightening of tension, acting, while learning to not generalize a whole movie as beautiful or one of the best movies ever. Cuz the real canon of cinema actually is surprisingly narrow, and includes a good deal of silent, foreign, and abstract works.
Ranaan has to be trolling with the action cut thing at this point. “Action!” “And we are back with the movie show! On today’s episode we talk about the creature from the black lagoon. But first let’s catchup with the news of the day.” It’s easy
@@FANKANable sure but Joe never shuts up about how good Dog Day Afternoon is and The Verdict would make it a perfect triple bill while still mantaining the theme of films being decades apart
Okay, I’ve pinpointed it. I can’t stand how much pride Ranaan takes from not knowing anything about sports. Biggest pet peeve ever. You can tell he thinks he’s better than people that enjoy a game. Love his comedy but man, he’s insufferable in a lot of ways. Haha
Raanan loves when movies are "close to reality." He's gonna go apeshit when he finds out about documentaries

He also loved 12 Monkeys, you know, reality
starting every episode with the action/cut argument is insane and I love it
It feels like the quickest scene ever shot.
Can't tell if it's a bit at this point. Sounds like Laurel & Ret@rdy. And for this reason, I love them.
"I think he's Latino, he has a switchblade"
"Italians have switchblades"
It's truly amazing to me that Raanan messes up the intro time-and-time again. It's so hilarious to me. I love this show!
to be fair, they are both comedians and it's probably a bit !
@@whataloadofbollox I don't know man, it seems so genuine. I've followed Joe for years and I can tell when he's annoyed at someone.
@@FANKANable same here but a bit's a bit and Joe is an actor nowadays !

Just watched Before the Devil last night and yeah, it’s Hoffman’s movie. Incredible
This made my Monday. Two episodes within a week? Awesome.
Baumbach, Mann, Cronenberg, Welles
So many potential good episodes. Keep at it :)
all good ideas!
I liked last week when joe said what movies they were gonna talk about this week so we can follow along ahead of time

do an episode on Robert Eggers please
Great discussion. Also Q and A and prince of the city are overlooked Sydney Lummet movies for me
Raanan: Trashes one of the greatest movies ever made
Also Raanan to Joe: Why wont you show me the movie you wrote and acted in? I dont understand
thinking 12 Angry Men is just OK is a pretty wild take. this is the only podcast that regularly delivers confounding takes like that, and I appreciate it
So glad to hear Joe mention Martin Balsam. He was also great in A Thousand Clowns and The Taking of Pelham 123.
Q&A is also great, but the real Lumet classic is Prince of the City!!
great ep! my favourite Sidney Lumet is Running On Empty
going down the sydney lumet rabbit hole with my mother right now in the hospital, we found the ultimate film to watch called Critical Care (1997)
Curious to hear Raanan's thoughts on The Verdict. I think Paul Newman might be his idea of a great character, but I could be completely wrong.

But if your focus is not on cinema but pop Hollywood movies, then yes, these movies are up there.
M.tomei is always smokin hot-rip PSH and Norm.
I'm convinced Raanan hates every movie about stoicism, bravery, and nobility.
Spot on, it's because hes the opposite of those things.
12 is absolutely incredible. What a marvel!

Ya'll should get Morril on the pod. He had a movie podcast with Tomlinson and I enjoyed that I think he'd blend well here.
Good ep guys
These 2 so good
"Who do you think you are I Am" is something "Oh Il nam" would say because of his old age and head tumor
I think I might try and watch any of these movies
I have seen none of them
Raanan’s special’s are great though
I rented 12 angry men and turns out watching old men doing jury duty “more effective than sting sedative medication”… I was asleep within 10 minutes
Holy SpunkulusT HomunculusT Batman Raanan is so good.Who's that other Raanan comedian guy on UA-cam? Hershberg? That guy's great too!
Joe and Raanan should both agree about 12 angry men because it's like a Sorkin script.
Bring louie back... pleaaaaaaase
Can you guys go see Dune in theaters and cover it on an episode in the near future?
Terrible idea
@@lukess.s Why is that?
Hot take - Raanan is much more attractive without his glasses. His take on Henry Fonda is complete nonsense however.
Do a noah baumbach episode
Booo wasted potential; Lumet's got such an incredible body of work and you picked Before the Devil Knows You're Dead??
It's probably to compare and contrast the films that were made 5 decades apart

Good Pod. Whitman/Hanson track stinks. G.
Michael Shannon was awesome in it and there was much more humour in it than you're making it out to be.
Find another descriptive word besides beautiful...sheesh
gg
Ranaan at his finest…which is just awful.
Raanan is so annoying!!!
Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon would have made for a far more entertaining podcast. This was the most boring one you've done yet.
Before the devil knows you're dead is the movie that killed Phillip Seymore Hoffman so Joe had better hate it.
he actually shot up heroin in that scene for real! that's his last scene on film
@@gourmetghost he was in the hunger games, as recently as 2015, where are you getting that this was his last film?
Incorrect. He relapsed at the afterparty for The Master in 2012.
A Most Wanted Man was the last thing he filmed, and in the movie you can tell he is hurting bad.
