I have one of these, the 80K BTU model to heat my 24x48 shop with a 17 foot ceiling. This is the first year I have had the heater, but so far I am very impressed. My shop is insulated, and I usually shut this heater off after about 1/2 hour of running it for a while as it gets so warm in the entire shop I am in shirt sleeves. Time will tell but so far I am very satisfied with the quality of this heater and its ability to make my shop comfortable in the Idaho wintertime. It is not quiet, but quieter than a torpedo heater. There is no smell at all, just heat, and no headaches or eye stinging.
Good video, I've been a HVAC guy for over 40 years and started out cleaning and repairing oil burners. The maintenance on a critical oil burner such as this is a must. You are correct about the nozzel when in dought always use new and the oil filter of choice is one the higher micron elements.
Nozzle specs on the nozzle package mean .85 gallon per hour fuel burn and 45-degree spray angle. Its like an oil furnace igniter. there are gap specks for the electrodes, believe me, it makes a difference to get them right.
Agree on just replacing the nozzle. However, I would try a sonic cleaner. I reload so have one. Mostly to see if it did the job. Anything mechanical will fail over time. Thanks for the video. A bit spendy but would say it is nice working in a comfortable environment. Almost want one but, we are going to be downsizing soon. My 40x60 steel structured shop is non insulated and it does get a bit like a freezer in the winter months. Worked in Alaska on the slope for many years, used to the cold but as I get older, do enjoy some of those creature comforts.
Cool heater. I have a kerosene heater and a Eberspacher diesel heater for a back up heat source and garage heat source. What would be excellent if these ran off 12v. If it had a 12v inverter for the 120v power AND a 12v power inlet it would be incredible, eh?
i got one of theses. the 120000 btu for my shop of 40 by 60 and it dont warm it like i thought it would. i can sit in a chair in front of it for two hours and it just dont heat that good. my brother and i can sit 8 feet away and its not warm. very disappionted in it. but it dont smoke and thats nice. but for 2500 dollares its not that good.
mold in ur fue n filterl next time run it dry n drain ur tank n soak ur tip in laquer thinner or gravity feed it in off its direct inllet line during non use just don't send thinner through ur pump
LOUDER than my torpedo heater. And I've never smelled diesel fumes from any torpedo heater I've ever had. The heater is 10x overpriced on a BTU to BTU comparison.
Anyone ever try alittle diesel cleaner to tank it for injector clean. I bet alittle splash in tank would keep the spray nozzle clean so u dont have to replace every 1 year to 2 years.
Unvented propane heaters put gallons of moisture into your heated space, and in my opinion are at higher risk of emitting CO than the Sunfire heaters, which is one of their advertised selling points. The added gallons of moisture from an unvented propane heater can potentially rust your tools as well.
@craigswafford yeah, but I put a chimney stack out of my roof with a hole saw and flashing. Simple, out of the way, on off switch on the wall, thermostat, directional vents, no refilling fuel, propane Co. Comes when called which for me is once every 2 yrs! And costs less. Just a thought
Propane is about 2.50 a gallon, tank 70 dollar a year rental, 125k heater 845, convenience-priceless. Refill every 2 years with frequent use. Garage 24x32 deep insulated. Nothing in the way for me. Plus for me with welding equipment, milling machine and lathe I don't want flammable stuff on the floor. Again, for me buy once cry once. I walk in the side door, flip the wall switch, done.
Yes installed myself, I'm a retired auto shop owner. Installation on a 1-10 scale while it took 2 days (I work slow and alone at age 68) 5yrs ago ill say, a (4) if you can run a 120 circuit. But then again if you don't know how, it gets harder😁👍
Yeah it built like an old oil furnace. but you we just can’t build it like an oil furnace. You gotta tear it all apart to get at that stuff. Are you sure this wasn’t made in China seems about their speed. an oil furnace you could slide that right out the back and repair the nozzles without an issue.
Why can't you simply clean the existing burner instead of installing a new one? I've cleaned mine a couple times with a guitar string the correct diameter and it runs fine.
A burner tech told me the orifice will open over time which causes a 'wet' fuel spray. An efficient clean burn needs a fine fuel spray, plus the nozzle filter clogs.

Do not own one. Looks like a great heater. You did an excellent job detailing each step. Pretty simple terms.👍
My 80 should arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to it
How is it?
Good thing you know what you're doing
You can get an electrode adjuster from Aqua hot.
Definitely use a new nozzle. They have an integrated filter that gets clogged up also and is not designed to be cleaned.

The cleanliness of these types of heaters is critical. No one ever cleans the fan and on high efficiency heaters it critical.
Basically it's a boiler burner

Clean burn burner
Do they give off carbon monoxide? Can it be used indoors?
They do claim you can use indoors. I keep a carbon monoxide tester in the barn with me, I've never set it off yet.
@therandomfarmer4231 I'm looking to use it in a cabin living space.
Uh
@@Flipping_Assets prolly a bad idea , just saying
@sts.556 I'm using it inside and it's burning clean other than starting up

I am not paying over $2,000 for a garage heater.
Unless it's waste oil....

What kind of unicorn torpedo heater do you have?? I've never seen one that didn't stink and that didn't give a headache.
@@rfair123 Agree both of my torpedo heaters give off fumes and are much louder than this heater
I dont get it , runs on diesel but still takes electric???
Gotta run the pump so it can spray the fuel, that's the only way to get a "clean" burn

Maybe invest in some box end ratchet wrenches?
The fuel can become spoiled by bacteria.
This is a poor design. Might be a great heater but however designed it never had to repair it. Thank you you just talked me out of buying one
For the cost of one of those just get a propane hanging 120k heater, a 300 gallon tank outside and be done

I'm curious as to comparing cost- how much did a 300 gallon propane tank cost, plus 300 gallons of propane, plus the cost of the heater you installed?

Radiant heat is water hoses for floor heat, or wall mounted water radiators. And these still smell like shit.
Yes, don't put your tools away to early, Karma will see it & happen
I’ve had nothing but problems.
