I think the best part of all this drama is that now instead of getting two massive world finals at the end of the year we get none because world tour was canceled and everyone is boycotting the panda cup. Good job Allen. Two birds with one stone.
This is just the best case for Nintendo who formerly didn't want any Smash events. If that is still their MO, they succeeded.

We don't know if Panda did anything. They had some unscrupulous dealing with tournaments (namely his comments), but the shut down was Nintendo. Honestly, I think VGBC had sour grapes and Smash fans needed a boogie man.

The UA-cam stream is 100% free with zero ads. What exactly is stopping all smash fans to tune in and watch it straight from the person who organize the tournament and paid so much money for the entire thing?
Flying in everyone, getting the venue on short notice, putting in $50,000 in prizes, and then have another person stream the event is only a great idea if the other person shares half of the bill.

Lud is the type of millionaire I can respect. He throws around his cash in a very interesting way. He has money to use, so he uses it to help the communities close and important to him.

Our weeklies got permanently canceled mid-way through an event and one of the player elected to keep it going in his parent's garage.
It was 10PM on a Thursday but that did not stop his parents and brothers from helping turn the garage into an emergency local. A stranger helped us move CRTs with his truck
I don't play Melee anymore but I cherish a lot of these great memories and stories of passionate people helping each other in and outside of the game
I wish Nintendo saw the community the way I was fortunate enough to see it
Scuffed World Tour is a genius idea, this feels like whenever a big sports league has their player association strike and go do something cool while team owners have to find scabs or shut down operations
If Nintendo threatens you behind the scene Ludwig, please carry on with the event and make them go "full mask off" to the community.
There's no way they're THAT stupid to try and pull the same gaslighting with Ludwig that they're doing with Smash Word Tour. They have to be mask off at this point. They're two-faced bullshit has already backfired about as badly as it could.

I'd not watched Ludwig before he hosted the invitational last month. I know the Smash Bros community isn't the largest there is (and even less on the competitive side), but I also know I can't be the only one that feels grateful for everything he's done to uplift the scene.

He did get multiple millions, it’s at least 2.5 mil (not per year, total) not including any personal sponsorships etc.
The man knows he can just shill a mobile game ad any time he wants and make 6 figures in a single video anyway. He knows he’s been fortunate so he gets to spend his money on things he cares about.
UA-cam ad revenue is known and not in the millions, but he's taking in healthy sponsorship and merch deals on the side that fill him out comfortably

tbh for my own reasons I try not to be the biggest ludwig fan and just watch the occasional video, but seeing you announce this tourney for the game I love, and remembering your roots and always being a proponent of the scene no matter how much success outside of smash you've gotten, literally puts a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. The biggest thing that stands out to me about this is how much Nintendo is standing with Panda. It seems like they know that people were concerned that Alan somehow coerced their decision because their statement addressed it, so surely they should know that he was using his "connection" with Nintendo to threaten other companies. So why on earth are they still working with him? That is crazy. I really hope all of Alan's endeavors crash and burn.

Maybe this is corny, but I really appreciate Lud and people like him for doing in relative, small things. He isn’t changing the world, but he’s doing something for a community, and those things really matter. If you yourself ever get the chance, try to give back to your local community, or a community for an interest you’re in. It can mean a lot to people, and can help to build a community that can advocate for betterment of larger communities.

His research was really lacking. You can tell there wasn’t a lot of planning in his statement. He mentioned that he *wondered* if Panda’s CEO was breaking any laws without researching if that’s the case. And a few other minor things that made little sense. He seemed to just reacting to the tweets and official statement issued by Nintendo and Panda.

Speculating around it without stepping into a different field, I would argue, is good journalism.

This is insane. I actually just started watching Panda after the Ludwig Invitational. I became a fan of Coney, Wadi, Esam, Josh and Mars, really liked the videos they made together. Enjoyed the content.
Seeing Wadi, Josh and Coney Leave is insane, but power to them. I'm sad to not see Wadi 'ring the bell' for the videos any more. I thought they were fun videos.
But I totally support the players not having faith in the company after this... As an Ultimate fan, this really sucks overall.
