Integrating an aquaponics/overhead sump into a Juwel Rio aquarium.
It is still a little too noisy than I'd like. Going to be tweaking that going forward possibly trying out a less powerful pump.
Nice job! it looks like it was made for the tank, it will be fun to watch the plants grow and to see them lower those nitrates.

Spectacular your aquarium dedicated to Malawi cichlids. I have many filters with Photos and I must admit that they do a great job, the plants grow quickly and are more beautiful than in the pot on the ground.
Thanks Marco. Figured it was a good way to pull those nitrates out considering I can't have too many plants in the tank.

Yeah pretty pleased with how well it's going. Helping me to have different plants in that tank and the water is like glass with the overhead sump and the FX on it.

Oh hey no worries. Gotta say it works great. My water has been clearer than ever past few days. I've make a couple of tweaks to it so I'll do a follow up video either tonight or tomorrow.

The overhead sump is a great idea, Daniel! The handheld rotary tool looks really useful, do you find that the battery lasts a good while? I like the adhesive plant hooks, too. The sump is a really brilliant way to keep the plant roots from the cichlids and still get their benefits! Very nicely done! 🙂👍

I just used the rotary tool with the charge it came with in it which I'm assuming would not have been a full charge. I used it for quite a while and it didn't run out so must be not bad for holding a charge. Think it's more for lighter tasks than heavy duty use though.

I’ve shied away, from cichlids, for the most part, because they eat plants. You’ve done a fantastic job, of sorting plants, which cichlids won’t eat. According to Jeff Pelham, Chinese algae eaters (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri) hold their own, in an African cichlid tank and keep it free of algae. I wonder if you’d like to give them a go, to keep your anubias looking nice.

Thanks E.J. Always been a planted guy same as yourself but since I have done this I have found great pleasure in a different kind of fish keeping I have to admit.
My experience with the Chinese Algae Eater is that the tend not to be as interested in eating algae as they mature but we all have different experiences I guess. It's a nice idea and I appreciate the suggestion. I'll need to think about it.

Please avoid putting Chinese algae eaters with peaceful fish. They tend to eat the slime-coat, off docile species, particularly goldfish.
@ejbrinegar yes I am very familiar with that fish. They tend to be more boisterous if they aren't getting enough protein in their diet also.
Would imagine the Malawi would have no problem handling them though.
But I gave the first thumbs up ha ha even though I was 2nd 😅.
