Subaru Impreza Belt Change And Adjustment

- Here is how to change the accessory drive belts on a Subaru Impreza car. It is easy to do a belt change and a belt adjustment on the Subaru Impreza. There are just a few small simple tricks you need to know about how it is all constructed. Subaru Impreza has 2 Accessory drive belts, and you should replace both of them at the same time. The belts have manual adjusters on them, which means you should regularly check the tension on them. Some other cars have automatic adjusters, so you never have to check the tension on them, but the Subaru is an older design, with a screw you turn to tighten up the belt. It works well enough, as long as you keep your belt tight. If you hear a belt squeaking, before you decide to replace the belt, you could decide to tighten it and see if the squeaking stops. In many cases the belts will get loose and start to squeak, and when you tighten them again, the squeaking will stop. I hope this belt adjustment video teaches you how to change and adjust the accessory drive belts on your Subaru Impreza car.

Thank you! a video that showed me how the alternator belt adjustment assembly looks... since mine came loose and left me with NO power steering or alternator.
Great video man, easy, simple and fast.
Thanks man!!
You’re welcome
great video! really love how you cut from showing us the belts you purchased to the belts magically appearing on the pulleys! please share link to the lamp you purchased with the included genie!
Thanks man, my alternator belt blew out on me and I had no idea how to replace it. This video was all I needed
Mine blew last night...this video was great, just waiting on part arriving now
Perfect video short and to the point!
Thanks
Thanks for this!! Mines had a cambelt and water pump change in recent times and since having the car its squeeled on every cold start and the PS v often cuts in and out on slow manouvers. Hopefully not too tight now but all now works as it should, and is a nice new gates belt so that was good to confirm!!!!
You’re welcome
Some humor!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 The stretchy pants got me.
Dude, yes. Saving the day...and money, thanks!
You’re welcome.
Nice and easy took me 5 min. Thanks mate
You’re welcome
super helpful! thank you! :D
You’re welcome
Hey remember you did a vid on the mixing gas on bikes i need help with 25:1 but in standard you put 24:1 so im confused
Use 5.12 ounces of oil per gallon of gas.
Very Helpful. I notice that your old alternator belt was a 5pk875. You chose to replace it with a 5pk890. In the UK, the standard replacement is a 5pk880 - but i'm struggling to this belt on, especially as my new alternator is sitting a bit higher than the old one. I'm going to try a 5pk890 (e.g. ford focus 2.5 st)
Cool. Thanks, brah
You’re welcome.
How often does this need to be checked on a 2018 I do my own services thanks..
Not sure what interval they recommend. It stays tight for a long time, so maybe check it whenever you change the oil.
You make that look easy. I have to try it this weekend. 🤞
You can do it!
@@hoohoohoblin lol I pushed on the belts to check the play and they haven't squealed since so I'm leaving it alone for now. Love your no nonsense vids tho, I appreciate it😀
What size are those 2 bolts for loosening the alternator?
12mm
Was the loud thud at the end the AC coming on?
Yes, you can see the A/C clutch kick in like a pissed off donkey lol
On my suzuki geo metro
i have a 2006 STI impreza and my altenator belt will not go on even though everything is loose....Why wold this be?
Maybe they sold you the wrong size belt. The only other thing would be that maybe it’s routed around the pullies the wrong way.
I have an 05 and I have the same adjustable tension. I’m not stretchy.
on my 2002 forester, the belt isn't very stretchy either.
Hi. How much tension did u set on belts
I set them so there is still a quarter inch of play at the middle when you move it back-and-forth.
Stretchy pants lol, nice video thanks for the narration others are just silent
+johnny griffen Thanks.
Only one thing you're wrong on.
The cover you said "Opens like a hood" will actually just slide off.
It's an open hole so once it's in the vertical position you can just slide it off.
hey sup...i was wondering the brand of your belt...is bando is subaru OEM.
I don’t remember. It’s whatever they sell at AutoZone for the lowest price.
@@hoohoohoblin ok thanks
Currently watching this because i was tightening my tensioning bolt and it snapped in half👌
Did the same thing.
What are those belts called?
Accessory drive belts
Why not put the year that this applies to in the title
I should tighten the AC+ps belt because it sometimes squeals for a second when you start it with ac on
+1marcelfilms That is exactly what this car was doing. It is quiet now.
If you're just trying to tighten a squeaky belt, should you do it with the engine warmed up or does it matter?
I don’t think it matters.
Probably it doesn't matter. My belt squeaked really badly when cold but not after it warmed up. Still, to tighten, it doesn't seem to matter.
Mate doing this at the moment, but the belt is so tight I can't get it on the ac compressor - you seem to just slip it on no worries.
Could you clarify what part number the ac belt was? Did u use any special tool to get it on? Thanks
There are two different belts, and I don't know if they are different on turbo engines or not. Mine is a 2.5 liter non-turbo from 2005. One belt is fatter than the other one. Numbers are 5PK875 and 4PK875.
No better combo than nacho libre and subaru
Indeed!
can an over tightend belt cause a hot rubbery smell?............cos thats what im getting from around that area,,after local garage tightend it.....
Probably. It needs to have a little slack in it.
will adjust it in the morning ,,,and let you know.......thanks
How much tension on a alternator belt
push hard, and you suppose to be able to move it max 1 inch
Imprezive.
Thankz.
Should idler pulley rub against plastic cover or have space?
NACHOOOOOOOO!
kind of glossed over measuring tension of the belt
Probably should have watched this video first, forgot to undo the horizontal bolt before tightening the vertical bolt on the alternator belt and snapped the bolt (ps second time of tightening this belt)
Yea lock nuts blow on the ac side on a 2007 just saying
