@@izzy031096 depends. LS1 and LS2 are definitely not as strong. I blew up the iron 6.0 that came in the truck with a bad injector. Before I figured out the bad injector issue I hurt an iron 4.8. Now I have an aluminum 5.3 out of a 2004 trailblazer. Been living fine at 16psi of boost on pump gas and water/methanol with a whiff of nitrous just fine. I’ve got friends putting 25+ psi to them reliably on e85.

This brought back some PTSD from when I turboed my Camaro. It went about as well and I sold it before I ever got it "right" to a guy who was interested in finishing the project. If I recall he finished the project by taking the turbo off and just throwing a cam and some heads on.

Forced induction on any motor always tends to lead to more work and parts. The build definitely gives highs and lows but if you see the project through then the pride once fully buttoned up is immense. At least it makes for more suspenseful content for the channel! Hang in there brother.

One thing I loved about my 2 stroke race bikes is they were so easy to work on. I left my 08 Limited Busa bone stock except the tires and then I ran into problems with the bike falling into the corners because of the different profile. The fan did puke at 100 miles other than that the bike was bullet proof. Believe me I ran the crap out of it every time I took it out and it just laughed at me. My advice is follow the leaders when throwing a turbo onto a Busa, many thousands have and can tell you the ins and out of installing a turbo on a Busa. Best advice I can give is bring patience and plenty of cash. Hayabusa is a really wonderful bike to ride in its stock form.

It really bothers me when people refuse to name a trash mechanic/shop. The reason is, someone else will end up getting screwed by said mechanic/shop. Believe me, you're not "taking the high road" by keeping silent. Some poor guy is now going to go spend a bunch of money, and end up like yammie.

While I understand your perspective there's a few more considerations when you consider yammies perspective and the mechanics. With someone as popular as YN, if YN blasts him the guy's entire career is over. Is it fair to end someone's entire career and well being on one bad job? Second, if YN did this, what mechanic is ever going to want to help him out again? It becomes a high risk, zero reward operation. I personally believe YN is doing the respectable thing considering his stature. That said he should still leave the guy an accurate review on Google (under an anon name) without using his YT platform to blast him.

    • @Charlesbjtown
      @Charlesbjtown 2 роки тому +5

@@RussSchampers I respect your viewpoint, and what you say is reasonable. But do you think this just happens to be the first time he's done subpar work? And the "reward" isn't for yammie himself, but for the next guy. Yammie can probably afford to absorb the cost that resulted from the shoddy shop that did the work, but many average joes scrimp and save a long time to do a big upgrade like turbocharging a bike, and can't afford this type of foolishness.

    • @oConshien
      @oConshien 2 роки тому

@@Charlesbjtown Yammie doesn't want to absorb the cost of a legal battle -- if mechanic's name gets dragged through the mud and kills his business, he could sue for defamation/slander/libel whatever it is. Oh the joy of modding. Im probably too late since the videos are being released after the work is done, but here is what I learned from my own experience with modding.
There's a really fine line in modding, that once crossed, you'll have to address everything, if of course you're looking for long term reliability. So, keeping as simple as I can, here are some things to consider if you wish. Adding compression is the same as adding boost, and there's a limit on stock internals when doing so. Higher compression = a "snappy" motor, and you can use a smaller turbo, that spools faster without sacrificing power. Then you'll need to address valve springs, O rings for heads, forged pistons, (your builder can tell you if a vented option is available) rods, and yes wrist pins. Oil delivery, oil pump gears (not sure of oiling system on that bike) should also be addressed. And last but not least, FUEL SYSTEM!!! E85 is phenomenal, and that's from someone that has used all kinds of race fuels. Good luck!

Reason why it didn't overheat while idling...the headgasket is holding without boost. Under boost it lifts the head a smidge and then it forces the air by. Which is why you need head studs, the stock head bolts actually stretch.

Yammie, I'd suggest checking your countershaft seal. If your sprocket nut wasn't tightened properly, it could have loosened up during the ride. When it loosens, the sprocket and sprocket spacer will walk forward on the countershaft, and if that spacer walks forward too much, it will lose contact with the seal, thus spraying oil everywhere. Exact same thing happened to my DRZ400. Hopefully it's nothing horrible. Best of luck!

I'm an engine builder that has built many 1000+hp engines, the stock head bolts can not maintain the stretch/clamping forces when you add a turbo as the stock head bolts were never designed to hold that much expanding pressure. upgrade your head bolts to ARP L19 or you will be back shortly with another blown head gasket

Unfortunately it sounds like a hot headed builder trying to get advertising out doing more than he should, or a retarded one when it comes to physics: and I mean that, my neighbor couldn't add 6+5 when he was 12, but he was quite good with his hands working on engines and did more than I'd care to do to engines, I don't even like rebuilding automatic transmissions but I'll do it, that kid though was doing some serious Frankenstein monsters kind of parts swapping from junk and making it work like it was child's play, which for him it was, engines were his favorite toys. @@blizzthebike a typical N/A engine produces 1,100 pounds per square inch of cylinder pressure, a diesel produces 2,400 pounds per square inch, a non diesel turbo engine produces 1,400 to 1,800 pounds per square inch, therefore when a 88.5mm bore have around 11 square inches (I think off the top of my head) and there may be on a motorcycle 4 head studs, therefore each headstud in stock form has to hold 3,000lbs of clamping forces, now add a turbo which would increase the clamp force to 3800lbs. if the manufacture put a 3200lbs bolt which is more than enough for it stock application than the head will never lift, however now that it's not in it stock form, the head studs will stretch lifting the head causing the head gasket to fail. 2nd, you may have an easy fix. Drain the oil and check to see if the rubber ring was placed back onto the oil filter. If the leak is from the drain plug, you can use a crush washer to fix it "easy-peasy". If the leak is from the head gasket, then go back to the mechanic (after kicking him in his busa).... have him re-seal it with a NEW head gasket (not just use the old one.)

On God, you have earned a lifetime subscriber because of how real this is!
I bought a used 08 ninja 250R as my first bike and literally went through every emotion in this series over the course of a year and a half.
Idling problems, overheating, replacing cylinder heads, machining the internals, having it leak oil, having it die out on me on countless occasions, shipping delays, mechanic being unresponsive and holding on to my bike for months, you name any heartbreak on a bike, I've been through it.
When I started my journey, I was a total noob, I watched all your videos and more for info on getting into motorcycling, it was all great, but to be honest, it wasn't enough. There's is not enough that can prepare you for all this rigmarole trust me on this.
At the beginning I was super excited about wrenching on the bike and just going through all its corners to make sure everything was in check and generally getting to know my bike more intimately. Washing it no less than 3 times as week because I didn't trust anyone else to not scratch it.
Fast forward 1.5 years later, and yes, the bike is running smoothly, there's a couple things that need replacement and I know them by heart, but honestly, this whole venture sucked the life out of me and I'm numb to my once dear sweetheart and therapist.
Right now I'm just happy it turns on all the time, and that's about it. I barely give it time, I dread opening my toolkit to even fasten a loose bolt.
I delegate any slight maintenance (even lubing my chain) to a mechanic.
I literally don't give too many f*cks about it anymore, but it rides and I'm so skeptical about buying another bike and having to go through the same trash. After all the saying goes, "Better the devil you know, than the angel you don't."
My next bike has to either be new, or highly vetted and certified by stringent rules of the UK and the likes.
I'm so glad Yammie made this video as it's the most relatable bike video I've ever watched on UA-cam. It gives me just a little bit more hope because man, sh*t happens to everyone.
For y'all that are going through this, all I can say is put your peace of mind first.
For those that haven't, kudos! and never buy a used/project bike.

AAA, well worth the money. Got to make sure you get the package that includes motorcycles. Hopefully something stupid. I drove 4 hours to go off-roading with friends. Spent the night at the camp ground. Rode 20 minutes, I had oil all over my KTM 450EXC. Could not see leak, covered in oily dirt. Got home cleaned it up. started bike. Bolt on valve cover broke, oil was spewing out of that. a 10cent bolt cost me two days. But glad that is all it was, ten minutes after discovery, fixed.

Absolutely it can be done successfully but it will be at high $$$$$ investment.

My guess would be that you having dropped a turbo on a stock 14 yr old bike.
This has prob shown that your rings weren't as good as new and you have prob had some blow past with the extra pressure.
This has now increased your air pressure in the sump and it has assisted with the oil wanting to find it's way out.
Your most obvious places for leaks are any rubber 'o' rings or any weakn'd gasket.
And with some suggestions of others, your head gasket needs replacing with a metal one - Cometic make them.
I'd also do a full rebuild with low comp Wiseco pistons and they also provide a metal gasket too

Depends, most people don’t do it correctly. I’ve boosted a lot of stock bottom end motors.
Head studs, upgraded cooling, metal Head-gasket, & E85 go a long ways for boosting a stock bottom end. Engines like Hemi’s however don’t handle a lot of boost because of tight piston ring gap, and that is something else to think about.
Adding cam and springs for lower boost pressure goes a long ways too.

They didn’t raise compression over stock, they just didn’t go as low as bigger HP turbo Busa would go. The stock compression is probably 11.8 to 1 so they reduced it to 9.5 to 1 instead of going all the way down to to 8.5 to 1 to be able to run max boost.
