I think a great option for a back up guard for the thunder would be Luka Doncic, If they can secure him then they should go get this guy Joel embiid as a backup big, I think they'd be great in the pick and roll together
Ironically, Thunders are probably the only team who can afford the asking price for one of those players, though I doubt those two teams will ever trade them.
You should do this for other teams. With your detailed knowledge of the game you’ll give a detailed version of these type of video compared to other creators
OKC has the picks/assets. They should go trade their treasure chest of picks for Lauri Markkanen. Would solve the 2 big issue while allowing him to play with Jalen Williams & Chet Holmgen, would space the floor at the 4 and defend at a high level. He also is a mismatch player so he himself would create advantages for his teammates when teams have to send help.
That sounds great but i think that’s to many dominant ball handlers on the court jdub, Shai, and markkanen, to many ball handlers not enough minutes. Maybe tho. Idk.
@@jan279 this is a team that needs spacing of 5 out because the way Shai plays. They also need secondary rim protection & a big who will run to keep up pace. Most importantly they need a offensive hub player when SGA sits. No C in this offseason that meets all that.
As okc fan, most fans need to lower their expectations for what okc will do in the off season. At the deadline I was telling fans that okc was not going to be do anything big then they was shocked when I was right same with the draft every year people keep Mocking okc to draft a traditional big and I keep saying they won’t and I keep being right. The reason for this is because okc wants to run a 5 out offense with everyone with the ability to dribble, pass, and shoot that why okc haven’t Went after any traditional bigs Okc mostly likely going to use their pick and then extend joe and Giddey and maybe make a small trade but nothing major that the most realistic option, also not saying okc would never go for a traditional big but I think it very unlikely due to what they look for in players with wanted everyone to be able to dribble, pass, and shoot and their entire scheme is base on chet being the 5 which what okc wants.I think they will try to fix the rebounding but still keep the 5 out offense probably going to draft a big that fits the offense and then I would assume they either make a trade for a wing on a 1-2 year contract
This was a super awesome breakdown that was easy to follow but still in depth enough to be quite interesting. I’d imagine it would be more of a postseason type of video as the playoffs still have a decent amount to talk about. Super excited for what’s to come.
Alex as a Thunder Fan that was a top video for me in term of quality, i couldent agree more. I think our small ball where everyone knows how to do everything worked amazing in the regular season but at the end of the playoffs it is not only a question of who is the better team but also a matter of matchups and at least in the West we are inferior to all our rivals, what does it help to finish in first place in the regular season if In the playoffs you won't be able to play against centers like Derrick Lively and Daniel Gafford? And luckily we haven't met Jokitz or the size of Minnesota yet. the first priority First, Lauri Markkanen who fits the same style, an amazing offensive player who will also know how to give us size in defense and rebounding, but even if he doesn't come, I would aim to bring in a Claxton-style player, Capela (or Jarrett Allen) and also bring in another ball carrier who knows how to take down the The pressure from sga. I think for example bringing in Deni Avdija and Tyus Jones from the Wizards could be an amazing deal for us
I’m not sure Claxton fixes the rebounding issue, whilst he’s fantastic defensively he’s had his own issues as a rebounder. Nick Richards is an awesome shout though, haven’t seen that anywhere else but I think he’s the exact archetype they should be looking for off the bench, maybe Charlotte would be more willing to let him go if Mark Williams’ can consistently stay healthy
@@winter9242as a Pels fan, 2 things Nance has his own rebounding issues as a smaller big And unless OKC ponies up a good first, he’s either staying or going to not OKC lol
Wow, really good video man. Loved all the possibilities for future players. I swear all the conversation about the Thunder's offseason has centered around chasing the next big name whether it be KD or whoever else. But imo getting these smaller role players to round out the roster and strengthen the weaknesses is way better since having these big names can get in the way of developing players like JDub and Chet and everyone else. Alot of these guys are barely in the second or third year and getting these big guys might hamper their development. But I also recognize the reason for the move since who knows how long until we get hit with a wave of injuries that cripple the team. I just hope Presti makes the right long term moves. We have all the potential in the world, but we shouldn't give up that future for the moment inbetween.
good breakdown but i think giddy would be a great back up playmaker who could set that back up big. Also i think giddy could be a great shooter. His shooting issues were about confindence and dealing with personal issues which are behind him now.
Yes Isaiah Joe and Wiggins are most important players to sign and I also agree that Thunder should move on from Giddey Thunder should go after Kalel Ware and Tristan da silva in this years draft Or go after Hartnestein and Paul george in free agency to get a playoff veteran but that is unlikely
I See Your Point I Do .. But I Don’t Agree Brodie I Feel It’s Based Off What We Get In This Draft & How Free Agency Goes .. I Wouldn’t Be Mad At It But I Feel We Can Get A Better Piece
I loved your thoughts at the end on identity. OKC has cultivated a clear identity and have gotten the players that match that identity pretty easily. And it lead us to a 1 seed and the second round of the playoffs on our first try! But I’ve seen, especially with offseason being here now and we are talking on how to upgrade our roster, so many fans viewing the idea of a traditional big like a vampire views a wooden stake. It’s like they think everything that OKC has built will crumble if we get a traditional big. But all it will do is provide more flexibility for us. Look at what the Mavs did to the suns in the playoffs when they surprised them with a new look in bringing out Boban. It seemed to pay off too. We couldn’t do that if we wanted cause we don’t have a player like that. (Pretty specific example for a broad point) we need flexibility!!!
What I think OKC should do: 1. Get a new starting PF who can space the floor, play respectable defense, and help with team rebounding. Best possible would be Lauri Markkanen, lesser would be someone like Dorian Finney-Smith. 2. Get a backup center. J-Will is decent, but too small. Claxton and Hartenstein will be getting $20M+ which is too much for a backup. The new backup C would need to fit our 5 out offensive scheme. 3. Move on from Giddey. His skillset doesn’t work here, and it’d be better for both sides for him to move on. Could move him for another player, or get draft capital. I’m hoping that the Thunder trade for a new starting PF with a Giddey+picks+etc deal.
If not a huge trade for Lauri, then slightly over pay for a big like Claxton, Hartenstein (sp?), or Capela. I say overpay but do that for a shorter term contract, say 3 years tops. Get help now without messing themselves up with rookie extensions come due. Unless there’s a too good to be true prospect, draft a big with the 12th pick. That can become your backup big after this year’s free agent contract expires
We do need a backup big, but I’d like them to explore either moving Chet to the 4, or finding a big bodied PF that can rebound a bit better and play within the shot creation system they have. This allows J dub to play at the 3, which is undoubtedly his real position than an undersized 4.
The Thunder had a solid backup point guard in Micic, but they traded him away for Gordon Hayward, who did absolutely nothing for them. I don't think they are going to draft or trade for a big man unless he can shoot. Sam Presti will have the cap space this offseason to make a huge move (or a couple of more mild upgrades) if he wants to though.
@@ScottRhodes-hu5jo You say Gordon Hayward didn't have to do anything in a season where the Thunder were close to making the Western Conference Finals. If Presti actually makes a big move this offseason, then you might overlook him failing to improve the team this season. Otherwise, it seems like a fairly big missed opportunity to advance deeper in the playoffs this year.
If OKC can get Edey or Filipowski in the draft it's game over. I think they're going to win a championship within the next couple of years for sure and really they were ready to win one this year. Let's remember they were the #1 seed this year with this current roster in the brutal Western conference. When he’s on the court, everyone moves more, cuts more, screens more but if you only care about his shooting you won’t see his value.
The thing is, if they were to get a back up big like nic claxton, then they can only sign him for no more than 2 years because in 2026 j-dub and chet become unrestricted free agents and they need as much cap space as possible to resign them, because they will most likely want max contracts.
Not hearing Kevin Durant mentioned one time actually floored me. If they get KD they’d be heavy favorites. Shooting Size experience, perfect win now move for a very young team with a chest of draft picks.
