7:19 so if the nuggets without jok are basically the wizards, does that mean that jok is taking the wizards to the 4th seed by himself? that's a cool way to look at it i guess
You know, I think Jokic could do it. Jokic himself is easily the greatest floor raiser in the league. Unlike any other player he unlocks his guys and enables production vs the James/Paul version where you have to do what they want you to do when they want you to do it to be successful and in the end it only makes Lebron and CP0rings look good. Jokic makes his teammates better, the other guys make their teammates useful, big difference. Also Westbrook made the Wizards a playoff team when he was there so yeah I think Jokic could do it too.
@@09lowkey He's been playing with the same core roster his entire prime. There's no evidence he just raises any team's floor like that. Right know, I would chose Jokic. It is CLEARLY the best player in the league. It is the most valuable for his team. He can play in Utah and enter in playoffs. With Shay... I think that would not happen. But, I really hate not chose Shai, because it is amazing to have a MVP who defends like he is doing... What a year.
My problem with using a teams record is that it’s often outside of the star players control. Jokic can’t control the fact the nuggets have no depth and other players are overpaid. I agree defense is important but that’s also factored in on off rating yet Jokic still clears Shai in that regard.
It matters in relation to other statistics. For instance, a non-defender wont get any credit for a good Defensive team's Defense. However a mid defender (high offensive output) will. So SGA's Defensive production is considered when considering how good the Thunder's Defense is. If they're top 5 in the league then Shai will get credit, but if they were ranked 12-17 Defensively then no he wouldn't get any credit for that outside of his On/Off numbers. Unlike offense no single defender can change a team's fortune's alone. I mean look at Gobert, the best Defensive anchor of his era, gets all the recognition (DPOYs), but no love from the fans even though his teams are always highly ranked Defensively. Individual Defensive output doesn't garner attention.

That way the best player on the best team remains the default criteria for MVP without shafting the 1 player in the league who's putting up crazy numbers every night on a roster where that production doesn't guarantee winning.
No, it’s simple. The same reason Jokić won the MVP last year is the same reason why SGA deserve the MVP this year my team is injured and I’m still at the top of the west SGA is missing people his two centers this year. Jokic was missing his starters last year it’s the same argument. I don’t know why people keep switching this shit up.
I agree. Jokic always is the beneficiary of MVP voters being fickle and it's really aggravating when people switch up the narrative to further that lol. Last year, Luka was doing even crazier things than Jokic was (averaging a goddamned 35 point triple double on 64% TS from Dec to Jan on a team which lacked a lot of its final pieces like Gafford and Washington, had no Kyrie and had Grant Williams as a starting center), but there were crickets from the NBA awards voters. Hell, he broke the record for most points created and had a 70 point game on Christmas on ~80% TS, but nobody cared because of seeding. Hell, even in 2023, Giannis carried the Bucks to be the best team in the league by a wide margin (58 wins to the Nuggets 53) with Middleton missing a good chunk of the season while averaging 30+ points on 60% TS (never been done before prior to that point), had multiple huge offensive games and was a DPOY candidate, but you heard crickets from award voters. 2021 again also I think is silly because the Nuggets were the 6th seed and it's not like Giannis's stats were worse than Jokic's.
Triple doubles are cool again but when Westbrook did it for 4 seasons it was nothing 🤷♀️ thunder fan. Joker really should win it and Shai should of had it last year
If Jokić is that good let Nugget be the number 1 team in the west. Jokic just got blown out three games in a row this week. SGA is playing with no vets while Jokic is playing with another former MVP . SGA is the second in the useable % after Giannis. SGA is playing with avg 24yrs players. SGA is leading in ppg . Jokić isn’t leading any categories but media claims triple double. Jokić is bad as a center meaning is bad at his position. Jokic is having numbers because he’s touches ball in an avg of 112 times next to him is Cade in piston meaning if you touch ball for every possession you’re on court then the number will be good. In summary SGA is far better than Jokic . The recent Allstar 24/25. NBA players voted for Giannis is the best player while media voted Jokic. Media didn’t or don’t play the game. SGA is the real MVP for now.
I would argue that Jokic has a far better supporting cast Westbrook and Murray are fat better 2nd/3rd options than anything SGA has (also Chet has been injured the majority of the season)
Jokic have the best year of all so far, as 2 years ago when his MVP was stolen by whinning loser, Its obvious that his MVP will be stolen and this year
The MVP vote should be a story based award anyway, people don't care about the best player in the league award cause it would be the same dude for +5 years in a row. Also the literal most valuable player is stupid because that just means who is the best top tier player with a shit rooster. Also looking at stats, and more importantly advanced stats also don't matter because that award used to exists (award given out by algorithm) and nobody cared, it keept getting won by the same dude. Even worst is that the people that use advanced stats to vote don't understand them, but that is an other problem. All that matters is the story of the season, you can view it as who is the most valuable to the NBA. And this year it is clearly Shai, thunder are the best story right now and he is the leader.
Why are you even in this channel if you don’t believe in stats? Wouldn’t you feel more at home somewhere where people are shouting and no one’s read a book from start to finish?
@ Sure buddy you understand stats.. Just look at +- for different players and see which number is bigger. Meanwhile you aren't even sure if +- is linear, exponential, logarithmic, ... so in reality you can't conclude anything from comparing those number but you don't realise that. At the same time none of these stats give you and actual uncertainty so you can't make confidence intervals or anything an actual data analyst would do. It is just idiots looking at which number is bigger.

Shai for sure. Number 1 seed and NBA tends to give MVP to someone who hasn't won yet.
Giving someone a MVP because of the narrative makes the MVP way worse
Jokic mvp.
I don't even like OKC and SGA, but it has to be SGA.
Jokic does not deserve mvp if Luka didn't last season.
Its definitely going to be sga and not even close
You’re not being rational
Triple doubles are cool again but when Westbrook did it for 4 seasons it was nothing 🤷♀️ thunder fan. Joker really should win it and Shai should of had it last year
for me last year Shai was the real mvp and this year it's Jokic, but somehow it will be the opposite
last year it should have been Luka's
SGA is the real MVP for now.
lay off the drugs and read your statement once again
I would argue that Jokic has a far better supporting cast Westbrook and Murray are fat better 2nd/3rd options than anything SGA has (also Chet has been injured the majority of the season)
Surely you're joking, Jalen Williams and Chet have both been top 30 players this year, Russ around top 75, and Murray not top 100
Here's my valuable opinion:
If okc can win 60 games shai wins the mvp
Russ is the best story, give it to him
Why are you even in this channel if you don’t believe in stats? Wouldn’t you feel more at home somewhere where people are shouting and no one’s read a book from start to finish?
@ Sure buddy you understand stats.. Just look at +- for different players and see which number is bigger. Meanwhile you aren't even sure if +- is linear, exponential, logarithmic, ... so in reality you can't conclude anything from comparing those number but you don't realise that. At the same time none of these stats give you and actual uncertainty so you can't make confidence intervals or anything an actual data analyst would do. It is just idiots looking at which number is bigger.
@@galaxyvita2045 That kind of normalization is exactly what DPM and EPM do to the plus-minus data. After you apply those transformations, Shai actually comes out ahead.
No its not
