"You don't have to like people, but you have to respect them."
I felt that one. With the proper boundaries, you can respect almost anyone.

Great reminder! I overheard my boss whispering to the HR that I am VERY GOOD at my job but kinda weird because I am more on the quiet side. My boss said she has nothing in common with me. 😅 Made me sad at first but then I realized I DO MY JOB WELL AND I AM CORDIAL AND THAT IS ENOUGH. I DO NOT HAVE TO BE BEST FRIENDS WITH MY BOSS.

Good for you 😊 That was very rude of your boss. Just because someone is the boss it doesn't mean that they are intelligent, right or deserving of their position.

Great advice. Too many people don't understand that the workplace is not a dating site or a friendship den.

Nobody wants to be your friend so don't worry about it.

the social part of the job is actually quite important. I do see how guys who go to play golf on the weekend with the boss but are highly incompetent get away with anything...it is cultural. in some places the social interaction adds to your pay check. it is a reality and people don't like to admit it.

Just gotta take interest on people and ask questions and they will literally be glad to talk about it, IF and ONLY IF you make it about them. And NOT a me, we all love to talk about ourselves and our achievements we need people to just listen. And that works for who ever implements this universal law. A gift from up high

Hm. Something I struggle with is that contrary to Kevin’s advice, bosses will often call on those they’re more friendly with then high performers. That has a pretty clear impact on salary

I think that depends if the boss is also the owner or not

I think some people might think they're "highly performing" when really they're still inefficient despite putting in effort.

Thankfully I usually do my homework so receiving a pay raise ought to come natural to both myself and my employers.

Most companies have a sort of social power aspect to it because the person who has the power to promote you is always human so he or she will have some personal bias. In an ideal world it would solely be based on performance but i can tell you right now 80% of the time it isn't.

I would not work for employer who pays different salaries for the same job. Should ask 70k as others not 65k.

My problem is I’m 20 and work in a trade of a bunch of older seasoned guys in their mid 30s who make $30-40 and older guys in the $40-$50 range we do service work, I’m fully out on my own running these calls and doing what the older guys are doing I’m only making $20 so obviously they aren’t going to pay me the same as them even though I’m doing the same work just based off my age because then if they do that then they would have a 20 year old at the top of the range and wouldn’t be much future growth outside of the normal 3-5% raise every year

I'm making $16.50. I'd love to make at least $20/hr.

That’s not true though. Even if you stay in your office and work work, employers will stay silent. You have to let them know your worth and raise it to their attention.

Using his tone and confrontational style would not work most of the time.
He is correct about researching the salary data, but when asking for a raise its important not to back your boss into a corner. Show what you are worth by showing your value to the company, if it all possible. Use "we" and "us" more, and "l", less.

Megyn Kelly is really talented; it's a shame to see her doing so poorly on daytime T.V. when she swept the floor at FOX.

Leaving Fox was her decision. A pretty dumb one in my opinion but nevertheless it was her choice.

She's a nauseating Republican. Who cares about her? She was already quite wealthy and made so much off the NBC debacle that she never has to work a day in her life again. But since she's a narcissistic a-hole, she's probably somewhere on TV and thankfully I don't know where.

he's really not a jerk. watch some of his videos on his youtube channel. There are far worse people who actually meet the definition of jerk.
