As a guitarist, I'm just mesmerized by her right hand technique. It may look like she's just strummin', but there's a lot of precision in what she's doing, especially the thumb work. It's a significant part of what makers her so unique! -Tom
What a stunning cover. Posted five years to the day after my mom passed; I sent it to her email anyway. She loved this song, and I know she would have loved this version.
That’s the best cover of that song I’ve ever heard. The guitar tone compliments the naturally beautiful vocal tone that delivered exactly zero sour notes. Hell, even the vibrato was rhythmically perfect. And Tom Waits already had my heart since I was a kid (which was some time ago), so it was big shoes to fill, but damn, she did it. Such an honorable cover!
She really does a great job on this song. Beautiful cover, she’s also an excellent singer songwriter. I’m just learning about her work and I’m digging it. 👍
This was so great I’m not sure I need to listen to the original as I may frown and critique it, despite it being the originator of such a great piece of music, words. This was magnificent. I hate to see a less brilliant version. I got lucky finding Madison Cunningham through a tip from someone I bought a used acoustic guitar. They said to check out your music.
It’s a rubber bridge guitar and I’m pretty sure it’s in b standard tuning, but I’m not sure about the guitar manufacturer or body shape. I’m wondering the same thing. Looks like maybe a 000 or OM body. I know a lot of guitarist have been getting these rubber bridge guitars from old style guitars in LA
It's probably an old, cheap, and heavily modified catalog guitar from the 60's, a Harmony, Kay or something like that. I think she uses a rubber bridge and tunes down to C, and uses flatwound strings. Looks like a mini humbucker mounted on a custom plate made of tortoiseshell pickguard material. I'm sure she has a really good guitar tech, it sounds fantastic.
Man oh man... I love this rubber muted kinda sound. Don't know what she's doing at all, but it sounds just marvelous and her playing is superb. The singing I'm not such a fan of. This Adele kind of moaning is adopted by almost every female vocalist entering the stage this days and they all sounds the same, but have a different name... - I think I'm just getting old... But what happened to Billie Holliday, Linda Ronstadt, Pat Benatar, First aid kit, Janis Joplin, Emmylou Harris, Suzanne Vega, Toni Wille, Jo Stafford, Stevie Nicks... Singers you can tell in an instant who it is.
This is so wonderful!! ✨This might be a stupid question but how does one get that guitar tone? Like it sounds almost kinda muted it's really nice... Is it the instrument itself or some technique i could learn?
Geez thanks Madison .. now I'll be practicing for hours again .. I have no life. I don't eat. I don't leave the house .. I sit and stare at your fingers..
just got into you properly through your session with bahamas. what an absolute beast he is obviously but its wonderful to have been led here from it. sub for sure :)

She has much finesse on the guitar.
Not many people have been able to pull off Tom Waits covers in an honest and legit way such as this joyous thing
Madison and Shawn Colvin are both my favorites doing this song.
What a stunning cover. Posted five years to the day after my mom passed; I sent it to her email anyway. She loved this song, and I know she would have loved this version.
That’s quite beautiful - sending to her email - thx for sharing.

Such a great vocal performance. She makes it look so easy.
At 3:34 -3:37... that last little strecth on "there's" from "it's cold and there's no music" wonderful details.
Madison...You were just born to do this....And we are so very grateful.... Love, Peace, and thanks. :)
These covers are so good I can’t go back to the originals. So happy to be alive while you are around.
Her voice leaves me mesmerized
Her right hand rhythm & use of the thumb is lovely (and NOT easy to do). What a great choice of song, and so beautifully rendered.
What a MAGICAL Right hand technique. It just drives the melody right into my soul.❤❤❤
Very interesting guitar work. I’ve never seen anyone do quite the same. It works so well with the rest. That’s great! Really great.
I keep coming back to this video...it's sooo good.
Hello me from 3 years ago. Guess who came back? ;-)
She's like a singer, but better.

Woah I’ve been listening to this one a ton lately!
Bravo! Excellent rendition.
Lovely! Well done!
Beautiful cover, love the tone of your guitar it looks like huge flatwound gauge really mellow and warm sound. I'm sure Tom Waits would love it
I like it 😊

So good. Anyone know the tuning?
so good
Love it xx
I love it! I like the way you sing this!
Meravellós. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Sweet and beautiful.... I'd love to hear her pure voice backing Tom's dirty growl.
So there is a way to make the earth a better place.
Madison - you got extra heavy strings on that beast. Is that just the low strings of an 8 string guitar set? Sounds so flippin cool!
You're the best!
This is a very impressive cover.
👍👍👍👍👍MC is the Best
Sensational. Is she in drop tuning?
Wow! I’m so glad I found you! You are quite something else. Beautiful performance! Directly to the soul! Thank you :)
beauty
Can anyone tell me about the guitar/tuning? I really like that sound.

Sounds like Jaco is sitting in (like he did on Joni's coyote)....so good!
Could someone tell me the name or the brand of this awesome guitar? I love that bass sound. Madison! I love you!! Such an inspiration!!

rubber bridge, flatwounds, C tuning
What is the tuning on this guitar?
B standard!
Thank you Maddy.
Beauty…wow
very good :)
Does anyone know the guitar model?
Figured out it’s a silvertone by watching her tiny desk concert, but still not sure what model
@@shanespruiell93 That sound comes from a rubber bridge.
Guitar sounds like a cello!
Wow, 180 degree away from Tom Waits she carries the same spirit.
Thx MADison
Thank you, Tina.
Wtf are these strings i love it so much
That unique sound is coming from that rubber bridge she has on that guitar 🙃
@@bastianbach4348 Incredible, thank you!
My goodness, my first time listening to you. Won't be my last!

PERFECT. Now let's pray Madison clings to essential Biblical doctrines and doesn't abandon the faith.
