      I would pick Ryu and Ken to stay in the Street Fighter world.
      Ryu is still the face of Street Fighter history, especially Ken is like the cool best friend/rival character in the Street Fighter history.
      I would drop E. Honda and Dhalsim because they should pass on their Fighting Techniques to the new generation fighters

      Granted I would say like Ken for a story perspective since as mentioned he's rich has a family and is running his father's busniess which honestly would be the case after the events of SF5, you know *go home and be a family man*. Same for Guile & maybe Chun-li since they had avenge their love ones and Chun-li is now a retired mother of sorts teaching her new adopted daughter Li-fen in her own ways, heck I was expecting her to be added as this series new generation of Chun-li so that she has all of her moves and plays the same as her but with a different face to carry on her legacy.
      Of course that WAS to be the case in my mind at first but much like fans reception they never let the world warriors have they're happy ending and would want them to be forced back in someway cause they're fan favorites for many people. And even the 1 and done characters whom some people wished to see return but didn't are also some fan favorites, Sean, Menat, Sodom, Rufus(I joke but their are actually fans for this guy as well).

      Zangief COULD be replaced be Haggar for one go but he's quite iconic.

      Delete Blanka and E.Honda forever. With all its combat sports history Brazil should have a better rep than a joke character who's a literal green monster man from the jungle. It'd be better if they'd stuck with the more serious look they gave him in his SSF2 artwork, but instead they turned him into a goofball. At this point Sean should be old enough that he could be an interesting character with Shoto/BJJ-inspired moves.
      Honda's just lame. He doesn't have a character, he just is "sumo wrestler." What does he do? Sumo wrestling. What's his goal? To popularize Sumo wrestling. What are his notable character traits? He loves Sumo wrestling. His character design? Well...he's a Sumo wrestler...oh, but with kabuki face paint! His moves are lame, his look is lame, everything about this character sucks. He's not even fun to fight! Get rid of him already. What's the problem, there won't be enough Japanese characters?

    I would disagree than T3 Jin was a generic protagonist. He was the son of Kazuya (the antagonist of T2) and Jun, which is interesting in of itself and hadn’t really been done in a fighting game canon before. He also had a ton of character development in that game alone between his rivalry with Hwoarang, seeking revenge for his mother and his arc with Heihachi using him to get to the devil gene, and the subsequent reveal of devil Jin.

    I wouldn’t even chalk the failure of Street Fighter 3 to having almost all new characters. The biggest reason Street Fighter 3 failed is nobody bought Street Fight 3 cabinets. When Street Fighter 3 was a thing that was out, I only ever saw the cabinet once, in an airport, and the cabinet didn’t even say Street Fighter on it so you had to actually look at it for awhile to even tell what it was. I didn’t Third Strike out in the wild until like 2003/2004. And it’s not like being a 2D fighting game was a problem, because Capcom’s Marvel games were all over the place. The arcade in the mall I regularly went to at that time never got a Street Fighter 3 cabinet, however, they had every Capcom Marvel fighting game that came out when they came out from X-Men: Children of the Atom in ‘95 to Marvel vs Capcom 2 in 2000. And you’d see those Marvel Capcom games all over the place in the late ‘90s. My guess would be that Street Fighter 3 machines just cost more, so places didn’t order them as much, and the Street Fighter 3 games weren’t as flashy looking as their own Marvel games.

    Unless Ryu decides to take in Sakura as his student then replacing Ryu is out of the question. Mortal Kombat tried to replace Liu Kang with Cassie Cage, failed. DOA tried to replace Kasumi with Honoka, failed. Soul Calibur tried to replace Sophitia and Siegfried with Sophitia's children, yeah that failed. Replacing iconic characters in fighting games with the new generation is very difficult to do. Only games that done that successfully are Tekken with Jin replacing his father Kazuya as the face of Tekken, Rock Howard replacing Terry Bogard in Fatal Fury and King of Fighters with various new protagonists from Kyo Kusanagi to Shun'ei.

      And with that KOF angle, you clearly see the cracks show starting with Ash. Jin was a little lucky that he debut when the franchise was still young and that game he was in was the break out game in the franchise. If Jin came a bit later, I doubt he would be as well received. Pyhra and Patrokolos suffered from bad writing. They could have been good since they had a decent setup in SC3.

    Street Fighter 3 didn't fail purely due to its cast. The original game felt slow to play and the parry system wasn't very rewarding to use, alongside the fact that it had to compete with Alpha 3, KOF 98, Tekken 3, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. If Third Strike was released back in 1997-1998, it would have _dominated_ the arcades.

    That's like 007 without James Bond, Tomb Raider without Lara Croft, Crash Bandicoot without Crash and Cortex, Fallout without the Brotherhood Of Steel, Mortal Kombat without Scorpion and Subzero, Guilty Gear without Sol, Soul Caliber without Nightmare, Kingdom Hearts without Sora, and taking Heihachi out of Tekken was very questionable. These iconic characters are one of the factors that made the highly respected franchises they belong to what it is today and to make the argument of weeding out what makes a franchise so great because it's been there for a while is goofy, disrespectful, and highly unprofitable. They say don't fix what isn't broken, The new additions can help improve the foundation, but you just don't to get rid of the entire foundation that's been holding strong all this time simply because it's been there for a while, that's stupid.

      If you were talking about Ryu and Ken specifically, you'd have a point. But what you're saying is "You can't have Mortal Kombat without Scorp, Sub, Jax, Sonya, Liu Kang, Kano, Shao Kahn, and Raiden". Like nah bruh, pick a character.
      If you actually play SF you know what these chars are only "iconic" because they are shoved into everything. They are marketed to you, you see them everywhere, so you go "wow, these characters are so important!" even though you'd be saying the same about T.Hawk and Fei Long if they actually got more games.
      World Warriors have virtually no history or personality. Decades later, after so many games, they are still just generic character archetypes.

    • @CGImpala
      @CGImpala 5 місяців тому +1

      @@TheRadioSquare Bruh, the characters you listed for Mortal Kombat are VERY iconic with their own beloved fanbases that you're advocating to be taken away? Which in turn would take a huge portion of the community away from the franchise. That would be a dumb move for the company to make. As for T. Hawk and Fei Long, I'm deeply surprised that they haven't came back yet and was surprised they didn't in 5. Now think about those specific fanbases that haven't picked up the recent games because of it. Hell, I haven't been that committed to 6 since Bison isn't in it and JP, while being a cool character, doesn't have that same flair and spark that Bison has for me. Why do you think SF4 was so successful? Respecting it's core fanbases was one of the many factors to it's success, look it up. Plus they had newcomers included in it's roster. SF4 is a prime example of improving a long lasting strong foundation, not replacing it. It's dumb.

    • @TheRadioSquare
      @TheRadioSquare 5 місяців тому

      @@CGImpala See, you keep saying iconic this, fanbase that. But I'm trying to point out why you are saying this. Many years, many games, lots of marketing. If you shove a character in front of somebody, they will naturally recognize them more and find them to be more "iconic". What's dumb is that there could be new characters, and less used chars like Sodom or Necro could've been iconic. But instead we get just more and more of the same because people just want things that they have already seen first and foremost.
      Those characters never become "iconic" and "must have" because they are not given chance, they're not allowed to have a slot over the mainstays that were formed early on.

    • @CGImpala
      @CGImpala 5 місяців тому

      @@TheRadioSquare The character also has to be interesting enough to some degree for them to be "shoved" in people's face as well. Juri is a prime example, people immediately fell in love with her character and she was VERY interesting despite her being a newcomer in 4. That gave Capcom the incentive to push her character even more to make her a mainstay. Secondly, Capcom mainly goes by what's wanted in the Japan scene more than anywhere else. There's nothing wrong with newcomers IF they are interesting enough at first glance by the audience to encourage the company to promote that character. This also goes for characters like Sodom. While he somewhat looked cool, I didn't have that much interest in his character in Alpha, there's a good chance that I'm not alone in that and it's possibly one of the factors to why we haven't seen him show up in another Street Fighter game.

    • @TheRadioSquare
      @TheRadioSquare 5 місяців тому

      @@CGImpala This argument falls apart when you look at the first iteration of Liu Kang or Johnny Cage. Literally two dudes shooting fireballs and having a forward moving kick while dressed like cheap parodies of something in a student flick. Same goes for Honda, a sumo guy who flies forward or up and down. Meanwhile a an experimental humanoid that looks cool and could morph into anything is only in one game, and Q had to be butchered into an ugly presidant man.
      A bunch of characters start out as generic and dull but get developed over time. Meanwhile some interesting ones never get used again because there are too many locked in slots for generic chars that must be brought back.

    @DIOBrando-ij2bp 5 місяців тому +1

    Outside of Ryu, Chun-Li, and Guile, I think the other World Warriors could go away and it wouldn’t really matter. The time keeping them all (or at least most of them) in a Street Fighter game probably did actually matter, was back in the 1990s when they were going into Street Fighter 3, and coming off Street Fighter 2 being one of the biggest games to ever exist. But even then I’d say Cammy, Vega, Sagat, and Balrog being in a Street Fighter 3 back in ‘97 would’ve mattered more than E. Honda and maybe even Ken at that time, or even Zangief. But the further we get away from Street Fighter 2 being a mega hit, the less it matters that all the Street Fighter 2 characters are there; and we’re already 30 years out from the last arcade update of Street Fighter 2.
    Blanka also needs to go now anyways. They’ve totally ruined him by turning him into more and more of a joke character. Alpha walked a line. The coolest Blanka ever was though is Street Fighter 2, where he was just this weird monster character. But he’s got that joke ending in Street Fighter 2 that reveals he’s not actually a monster, and Street Fighter 4, 5, and 6 have all leaned into that joke.

    Thing is tho I much like the idea of certain characters not returning but for story progression that makes a reason for them not to return, say for example Ken who has it big already being rich, having a family and has legacy already uphold for him. Even after the events of SF5 going into SF3(storywise) he has taken up Sean as his student and you thing he would replace Ken for future SF games, but that never happened.
    Same for Chun-li after years of her seeking justice for her father it come around in SF5 when Bison was defeated by Ryu and took up the mother role and raise her adopted daughter Li-Fen. But much like with Sean, Li-Fen didn't became playable in the next SF game.
    Characters like them that had a significant happy ending and would others that adapted their moves would progress to have their story going foward but much to some/many fans reception they won't let go of the past and want their characters to keep continuing on.

    I don't know if using King of fighters is a good idea considering that in kof 15 the story I'm getting an excuse for old characters who are dead to come back. I agree that FG stories should progress but remember this is a game not appear in the story but have him a character on the roster. Not every character needs an excuse to exist in a game and I wish more FG would just add fun characters in games instead of trying to follow a set story line because sooner or later we are just gonna have a reboot or a nonsensical explanation on how its been 50-60 years and ryu is still alive and kicking and fighting. Just have a story with the new generation and keep everyone else's play styles intact that way the old fans who love the old people are happy and we continue the story with the newbies that most people probably won't care about unless they knock it out the park.

      You can still have fun characters while progressing the story. Take Honda. He’s been following the same story since SF2 excluding SF5 where he opened a sumo bathhouse. If you’re gonna keep a fun/silly character, they should be doing something a little different every time to keep them fresh. If you don’t have any new characters and you barely change the old ones, then it’s not fun.

    • @themystikone

      @@chefvideogame fun is subjective and I'm not saying don't develop them. I'm saying we can have both. As long as they have a story mode that progresses the story, despite the roster it won't matter. Say if they release SF17 or something and Ryu dies giving the role to Sakura. As much as I love her I like Ryu more. So in the story he is canonically dead but he has a place on the roster just for him to fulfill a play style/ aesthetic. That way you both progress the story without having to find excuses for them to exist in the game.

      @themystikone 5 місяців тому

      @@chefvideogame often times one of the main reasons to shake up a roster is to progress the story and cut out characters who have outgrown it. I'm saying screw that. Progress the story and just keep characters in the roster and experiment with their play style freely. This would hold more customization and we can get some cool options like what if Ryu learned how to control both Nothingness and the Dark hado making him a reserved but much more dangerous fighter. Or Violent Ken , Or What if Chun learned some moves from Gen since he isn't dead and incorporated it into her kung fu. Or just refine their play styles for the next game. I honestly feel like you can swap out Dhalsim for Blanka. There’s not a ton of Dhalsim archetypes in fighting games.
      Guile fits the zoner playstyle better and Blanka has the tricky mobility playstyle that I feel is in more games. The only other “Dhalsim” in modern games I can think of is Billy Kane from Fatal Fury/KOF.
      Plus, just speaking from a design standpoint, there’s always something defining about each character. Guile’s the sonic boom guy, Zangief’s the grapple guy, etc. Ken is already the fire guy, so even if you consider Dhalsim the stretchy guy, he’s another fire guy whereas Blanka’s the electric/ball guy.

    wen l was a kid l didn't like street fighter because l didn't like the world warriors l thought they were lame in comparison to the tekken and kof characters but then l saw the third strike and some alpha characters and l liked almost all of them characters like sakura, makoto, sean and dudley are one of my favorites the only world warriors characters l like are cammy, chun li and weirdly balrog l just started liking balrog after he became ed's dad theyr interactions are dope balrog really likes the kid also boxing is my favorite martial art

    No. They can't be replaced. Look at Street Fighter III
    You say the world warriors appear in every game. But skip Street Fighter III LOL L
