Some sort of Tekken collection with classic games would just print Bamco money. Almost hard to believe they haven't done that for PS1 and 2 era games at the very least.

I'm against fg remakes in general because of how repetitive the genre is. It's easy to just make a brand new game with a good story recap. The companies don't do that in practice, but it's easy anyways.

The way I see it, until then there was a kind of more spontaneous mentality in the dev team, that were willing to expand the franchise and the genre by using all sorts of ideas and making the best use of all new technology.
Everything was new and "in progress" in the genre, there were no guidelines, no standards, no set notions... It was a time of a more free thinking style in game making. So a genuinely natural idea was making 3d stages with obstacles, irregular terrain, etc. That actually started earlier in Virtua Fighter 3, and T4 took it further.
But after the bad reception to the stages, the devs (and VF devs too) started working with a clearly biased direction to favor the competitive side of the game and disregard anything that can get in the way. Though that decision also means blocking the technical evolution of the game (thinking outside of the pure competitive bubble) as the franchise is sentenced to get nothing but the same clean and smooth floor stages that existed since 94 (or 93 in VF1).
My problem with that direction is that the idea was totally abandoned just for the sake of the competitive quality of the game... and that doesn't sound reasonable at all when it's known that the competitive community can limit stage usage. Even Street Fighter 2 tournaments have that limitation.
So TK (and VF) could perfectly have worked this way instead: some clean stages for competition, and some elaborate and detailed and irregular 3d stages meant for messing around and arcade mode. That way the devs can flex their technical skills, doing things that couldn't exist before.

Tekken 4 and 5 are my favourite Tekken games of the Franchise. ☯️ By the way Tekken 4 had the best story and atmosphere no doubt. Also my favourite Tekken Intros of the series are 4 and 5. Especially Tekken 4, developers did a lot of things incredibly right, most storylines were incredibly cool and the atmosphere and seriousness was just on a another level. I don't think most would disagree that Tekken 4 had a great"everything-except-the-fighting" to it. Great and Epic soundtracks, unique character designs, good individual stories, and an interesting main Mishima arc revival. The thing is that it's still a fighting game and no matter how great everything else is, if the fighting bit is flawed it'll overshadow the positives. Tekken 4 is sourly the most unique and underrated (mostly because of the choices that hindered the competitive scene) but it is my favorite Tekken to date, because of the very seriousness Vibes of the Story aspects perspective. The seriousness atmosphere of Tekken 4 it's on another level in my opinion. The soundtrack is what gets me the most next to the game's atmosphere. I definitely think Tekken 4 would have benefited from a Dark Ressurection style update. Take a lot of the criticisms people had with T4 Vanilla and improve it. Had that happened I think we would have seen a very different road map for later games.
TBH, I hate what Tekken has become now and that's just my views. I understand people enjoy Tekken 8, but it's not really the game that I loved anymore. Tekken 7 for all it's faults was still really good and provided many varied playstyles. Ah well....VF6 when??

The thing about T4 is that it's my favorite Tekken to think about, but one of my least favorite to play.
I love the atmosphere, the music, the stories, the stages that feel like real-ass places instead of arenas. But then I play it for a couple of rounds and wish I was playing 3, 5, 6, Tag 2 or 8 instead.

This is my take about Tekken 4,
As we know Tekken 4 has restricted juggling system which makes it a poking game unlike other past installment, I think Tekken 4 was supposedly made for casual player who didn't know how to do combos and just want fast pace fighting game.
This is is the first Tekken with wall splat mechanic which Bamco experimented during development and judging by the broken wall splat bug they can't even patch the game unlike Tekken 5 that got patch into Tekken 5 DR, other problems such as unbreakable throws, Jin's just frame unblockable and Steve's 8 frame mid jab, poor movements are all part of the reason pros stick with Tekken Tag 1
I'm biased with this one because Tekken 4 is my first game when my parent bought me Ps2 slim. Other reason such as the soundtrack, stories, the enormous stage are what made Tekken 4 a good tekken game.

Old games were looking for ideas and shaping themselves and making history. Everything was "in the making" and without standards or rules.
And later games (basically since T5 onwards) work in a direction of setting one base and stay constantly refining.
That is an important part for the games, because the competitive attribute of the game is expected to be more solid in sequels. Also the community gets older and more demanding. But the problem to me is the disregard about new ideas and experimentation. And that is also slowly disappearing in other games and outside fgs.

I loved the dark themed athmosphere of the game. the story was good and mystic, announcer voice, opening, ending, everything felt so authentic. it had few characters but less is more sometimes. and it had real life stages, realistic elements. i know majority dont like it, but i liked the gameplay too, the healthbars were stronger, gameplay was balanced, not much juggles and too fast like modern tekkens. no absurd customizations, weapons etc either. it was almost the perfect Tekken for me. the only things i dont like about Tekken 4, lack of Jack robot (would be better than Combot), the switched throw system, no backjumps and movement before fight start. if it was like other tekkens it would have been totally perfect. While I agree that Tekken 4 was the highpoint when it came to characters motivation in the Tekken series , it's really not anything worth praising in the grand scheme of things. For instance, most of Tekken 4's prolouges have the problem of "Tell, but DON'T Show", meaning we don't get to see Paul's regression from his glory days, or Laws depression after failing his restaurant business which he worked really hard to get started. It's all explained to us through a few minute narration. It's even worse for the endings, since those range from at best five minutes, and at WORST about ONE minute, which isn't much story to tell... Yeah, Tekken 4 had a decent story for it's time, but that's not saying much when most fighting games at the time, BARELY did anything with it's story, if at all ( Street Fighter, and Virtua Fighter). And T4's story is laughable when compared to games in other genres that came out either around the same time as T4 or EVEN before it, with these games telling rich narratives with complex themes and TONS of character development like MGS 1-2 ,and Final Fantasy 9.
And it gets even worse for other Tekken games for some of these characters, For example, up into this point in the Tekken series with 7, Kazuya is STILL a one dimensional villain who will kill anyone who is an obstacle to achieve his goal of world domination , just see Kazuya's Tekken 5 ending where he kills his own grandfather, and laughs like an absolute madman after doing it.That's it, that's his ENTIRE character, riveting stuff... It gets even worse with side characters, who either regress ( like Paul becoming an absolute moron who has a goofy catch phrase of being the "toughest in the unniverse") or being a character that never develops at all ( Bryan is still a one- dimensional villain who like to destroy things because he can) . It's dumb. And I know someone going to criticize me for comparing T4 to games in other genres including an RPG, but I don't like that fighting game community will hail Tekken 4 as the standard for fighting game story telling as if it rivals the best in other genres when it clearly doesn't, nor is it the best in its own genre, since both developers NRS, and Arc System Works, have both told more engaging narratives with TONS of character development in their fighting games in recent years. I'm not angry just offering my two cents on the matter, since no one never seems to bring this up.
Finally, I really like the direction T8 is took, since it seems to be going in a more anime direction, with Jin dong cart wheels, and hit sparks flying everywhere with every attack, it seems like Jin really took a page from Lars here, and I'm all for it, some people will criticize this for not being realistic, but do I REALLY need to reminding that this is the same series, where you can play as a bear, a boxing kangaroo, a gigantic robot, a cyborg, and a FREAKING magical piece of wood that comes to life? Do I really NEED TO REMIND YOU that the main focus is on super natural beings known as devils?
In regards to game play, I was never the biggest fan of the game play, which is not surprising to me, since despite many FGC content creators trying to define what objectively makes a good fighting game, the reality is that the answer to that question is going to change depending on WHO you ask, EVEN among pro players. For instance, they are are pro players that only like fighting games that are primarily footsie based, so games like Street Fighter and KOF are games that they are most likely going to love and hate airdashers like BBCF, GGXRD, and MBTL. Personally, I prefer airdashers over purely footsie based ones, since the extra movement gives you more ways to approach the opponent during offense and neutral, but I'm aware it's an opinion that definitely isn't shared by everyone. Though this fact isn't surprising to me, since fighting games are still art and art IS subjective, and what is good or bad is going to VARY from person to person.
And one of the things I value in the fighting game is unique characters that set them selves apart from each other, whether that be in terms of movement speed, defense, and ESPECIALLY game plan and unique system mechanics ONLY available to that character. It's one of the main reasons that I didn't like DragonBallFighterZ, since when that game launched the game felt very homongenized, and in that way didn't feel like an Arc System works Title at all, especially when you compare DBFZ to Arc System Work's earlier titles like GGXRD and BBCF where the characters were JUST AS complicated as the universal system mechanics themselves. And it's not just a problem I have with Arc either, since even more newer titles from other developers suffer from this issue I have with Homogenization, with games like the new Melty Blood, and even Tekken 7 suffering from this exact same problem ( infamous FGC Content creator Aris himself ADMITS that Tekken 7 is homongenized). Currently, games like BBCF, GGXRD, and SC6 are my favorite fighting games since all three have what I'm looking for ( to various degrees of course), with BBCF being my number one, since that currently is the most unique fighting game currently out on the market IMO.
I say all of this because if your love for the game is not there your chances of wining are MUCH lower, and those people will always be behind the curve of those who ACTUALLY enjoy the game. (High prize pool or not). So as someone who doesn't particularly care for footsie based fighting games in the first place ( like KOF, Street Fighter, DNF DUEL, GBFVS) the recent million dollar announcement for SF 6 doesn't do much for me in terms of motivating me to play the game. The only positive I see is that other fighting game developers may feel the need to have prize pools, to match their competitors to help keep interest in their games for casuals outside a particular community. That being said, I'm happy for Street Fighter fans and footsie based fans though. Overall, the idea of giving new characters, some individuality with the heat mechanic will hopefully make T8 more interesting for me, will see.
I think part of the reason I enjoy watching videos like these despite my lack of interest in the game play is the sure production Tekken content creators put into their work, with Blasted Salami in particular being the best at it by far. Seriously, the amount of editing on display in some of these videos is INSANE, and I can only imagine how long it was to write the script on some of these videos. Keep up the good work.

This is heavy copium. The new concepts were a novelty and the popularity at the time spoke for it. Competitively, the community essentially died and reverted to TTT before Namco abandoned nearly everything new about the game except walls and some moves.
People can fan girl over it now, but that's still because of the casual novelty and not the terrible imbalance.

Tekken 4 sucked. The only things it did right were the story and the atmosphere. Everything else was trash. I hated the game, but I loved the story.
