Yes! Be ready, willing, and able to use it. ***BUT*** You did one better.... The most important rule of carrying a gun, when you strap that gun on, you put your EGO down. The best way to win a gun fight is to avoid it all together. ( If possible ). Some people are perfectly willing to throw their life away for their Ego. We as responsible gun owners, armed citizens, leave the Ego at home. "Sorry about that bro." "You're right, I'm sorry." "Hey dude, sorry bout that I'll leave." Sure you have the 'right' in most States to stand your ground, but make sure it's a situation that you have no control over, and NOT a situation you made worse protecting your Ego. Cudos to you Dutch for thinking of your family's well being and not your pride. A++
One thing I would add is never pull your weapon unless you intend to fire it. When you pull that weapon you've already made the decision you had to do so to save your life or that of your loved ones. Otherwise if you can walk away walk or run if you have to. No dishonor in avoiding conflict.
Situational awareness is a major factor in knowing how to respond to a given incident because you might have a gun but you never know if the other person is carrying or not so never truly ignore what is happening but be aware without letting on that you are watching the situation like Dutch said it can escalate fast especially if you are not ready to react if the need arises
The fact that you made a statement that those instruments of protection are carried for that reason, would serve you well in a hearing should something progress further next time. You are a good man Dutch. Love you and your family. KOKO.
Hey Dutch... Thanks for the constant content... I love how the girls are learning useful real-life skills at the homestead... Once again I'm sorry your family was subjected to the unpleasant incident with the crazy dude... But respect to the way you handled it, and to your constraint in such a stressful situation. You did the right thing to defuse the situation by using your head... You were packin heat and ready to defend your family, yet you used your brain to de-escalate the situation that could've taken a totally different route... Hat off to you mate... Keep safe and God bless you all...
You & your lovely wife are RAISING some awesome young Ladies. Our Granddaughter is 9 & she does chores like your Girls.. They will turn into some hard working Ladies. GOD'S BLESSINGS
1st, love the video's... I just love that little dog it is so cute. Lol like how the younger one just continues to get the eggs like nothing happened. I think they did a awesome job on the chores. You are doing a great job with your girl's teaching them the farm life.

I love how you are teaching your children the simple things in life. Responsibility in raising food etc. Your reaction to the "nut" was spot on and also showed your kids how to handle certain things. Good job! Prayers and blessings go out to you and family to keep safe and well.
Thank you Dutch great message especially in these crazy times. Keep safe Beautiful girls & love how you are raising them. We need to back to old ways. Memories of my grandparents farm.
Beautiful message. Trained professionals are challenged to communicate with insane or drugged individuals. Thank you. Your Dad (RIP) is proud of you. Happy Easter.

Thank you for doing the daily videos. Makes the days go faster. You were very wise in handling that crazed man. Glad your quail are starting to lay eggs. Your baby chicks are so sweet. I wish I had a farm like your family. Your daughters are so sweet and helpful, which is due to excellent parenting.
I love the quality time you spend with your girls.... teaching them work ethic, integrity and kindness. I'm the oldest of 4 girls (no brothers) my dad was like you, very hands on, conversing, and reassuring, building confidence showing them it's okay to get their hands dirty and self sufficiency. I always loved one on one conversations with dad, he has always made me feel important (still does). Your girls will adore you all of their days. God Bless
Just discovered your videos. Reminds me of my childhood and the summers l spent on my grandparent’s farm. Love your interaction with the girls, they are very respectful. Look forward to watching more videos.
It is so wonderful to see a dad love his daughters and teach them how to do all the things. You and your wife are doing an awesome job with your girls!!
Hayden did a great job videoing doing the daily chores. Glad the quail started laying eggs. God bless you and your precious family stay safe and healthy.
We in Washington have been extended till the end of April. They've decided to shut down school for the rest of the year. Talking of a complete quarantine with no leaving our homes for any reason for 2 weeks. We are already going on the 2nd month of the stay at home order except for essentials. They've already closed all fishing down on any public areas. It's all about helping when you can and being safe for ourselves too. Thanks for the daily blog. It helps get through the evening. Love how the girls are so excited to help and even blog! That's exciting. She did a good job. Tell Brandy hi.... Love and God bless y'all. Keep safe.
Your family put a smile on my face. My girls are all grown now. Seeing yours reminded me of good times with family. Thanks for sharing. And Abe is a hoot!
Also very well spoken dutch, don't let the weapon we carry make the man, like you said keep quiet is the best way to avoid a serious problem if at all possible. .. very well said 👍👍👍
I LOVE that you are teaching and sharing time with your girls!! A lot of men probably, wouldn’t do that and your girls seem to enjoy it. I also, loved how all the gang ( goats and turkey) wanted to down and see what was up. So darn cute!! Abe, is one handsome fella and I think he knows it 😂
It's really awesome that they're still some young folks out there bringin children up around the farm life. Hats off to you and your wife as well as y'all's daughters for keepin the little farm life goin on.
Abe Abe Abe I just love my floating turkey. He is so beautiful I am so glad you show him past two days. And I want to tell you I think you are a wonderful father I love the way your girl work with you without complaining so terrific girls. I thank Abe you
Good man! Especially during these times of uncertainty. And yes this is coming from a woman...a single mom at that! I'm all about our God given right to protect myself. And anyone who obeys the laws of the land has that right as well!🇺🇸🇺🇸🙋
About scared me to death when the girls were getting the eggs. I thought there was a snake or something in there. So cute how Abe likes to follow the girl's around. He's making sure that y'all know he's a pet for sure. I'm sure he would love to have a girlfriend. Lol. He's so pretty strutting around all the time like that.
As a former police officer and retired correctional officer you did the best thing you could do by not escalating the situation. I have no doubt you are ready, willing and able to protect you and your family but what you did was use your head, you put your ego a side and de-escalated the situation by staying quite and by doing that your daughters didn't have to witness something worse. Good job Dutch👍
Great job Hayden! The girls really know what they’re doing. Just love them. Abe is such a pet. You kept your cool & that’s what saves lives. Really enjoyed today. 🥰🙏👩🌾🙋♀️
Abe seems to really love being with the girls! I just love watching how he keeps up with your girls and you out in the yard. It seemed like he was making sure that the goats were not bothering them or getting too close what all you are doing. What a fun video. Tell Hayden she is learning well from dad! She did a great job vlogging.
Congratulation Dutch! Enjoyed the video. This one was the best video you've ever put out. Interesting, informative, and entertaining. No disappointing Click Bait!
Love watching your videos and seeing all the girls helping you. Also good to see the quails have started laying eggs. Please keep making videos each day,we will miss them if youdo. Tell Hayden she does a great job videoing and Hope is a good helper too.
Your girls are so great about helping you out with everything! Love how they just do the chores. You and Brandi are good people and especially fantastic parents raising some great kids!
Glad you were all safe... I used to be a bus driver and had situations just like that. Inever look at these people and so far Im safe. God bless and you all stay safe.....love you Dutch
That is so true! My husband and I both carry too and we’re both members of the USSCA and have watched a lot of their training videos. That is one of their main rules too. First leave your Ego at home, try to avoid a dangerous situation, and if you can’t avoid be prepared to use your gun.
I had a situation like that a couple months back 4 young teens came up to me while smoking a cig and started yelling about how they we're going to beat the sh*t out of me. Calling me a bit*h n-word. It could have ended badly I did what you did and didn't say anything didn't want to escalate the situation. But you're right if you carry a freedom package you better be willing to use to defend yourself.

Oh no Dutch, Hayden did such a wonderful job on her vlog, you better watch out, she may take it over from you. Just always love watching your girls do the farm chores.
Glad to hear you showed restraine ,my husband is a retired officer and doesn’t go anywhere without his gun . Don’t blame you for carring. Protection . So nice to see you included your kids .
Great "words of wisdom" in dealing with someone on drugs!!!! Based on you sharing your story who knows how many people, besides your family that you will save. Thanks!
Good on you man, I've been pepper sprayed, well bear sprayed, (it is a LONG story) but my point is it is DEFINETLY a viable tool. IF used correctly. So make sure you folks out there practice with it.
Excellent advice. I carry any time I go out. No matter how much training we have. Keeping your ego in check in is very important. But always be prepared to use it. I haven't had to use mine yet. But I am always aware and prepared to if I need to. Abe cracks me up.
I understand totally. I did a video a while back where a mentally unstable person had to be pulled out of my truck by the police. I did pull out a weapon till I was able to figure out what this person was doing. When we first saw this person, I thought they were trying to steal property from my truck. Great video Dutch.
Yes, if you carry and you draw, you better be ready to use it because if they get it, it will be used on you. Glad you kept it cool. Those are just the best young ladies who gladly help and share the chores. Abe needs a lady. He's like a puppy when he follows you and the girls around. Stay safe.
Thanks for this vlog. Your girls are so great and Hayden acts more mature than her years. Thank you for keeping a cool head and proper actions and teaching that to the girls too. So many people I know would not have had the same reaction you did. Excellent.
Love watching you take care of your family, teaching your kids how to do whatever needs doing. Sibling rivalry rules but they share very well. Discretion is the better part of valor. Be safe, well and blessed 🙏🤟👍🤓.
This video was recommended to me. I clicked on it because I wanted to hear the story. And when you said I'll tell you after my daughter's chores. I was like dude just tell me the story. BUT, I'm glad I watched your daughters' video. I hit that like and subscribed. Thanks. They're beautiful, pretty cool little girls. Keep up the good work!
I think that Abe likes following you! You are raising some very responsible, respectable girls. More parents need to do more of that! Kuddos to you and your wife!
Oh, I loved this video and the message. Sometimes, we just need to let things go. So glad everyone is OK, cause as you said, things can go from bad to worse in a split second. Thank you for setting the example. All my best, Karen
My step son had some thing like that happen to him and he also ignored the guy, a few days later that person apologizes to him 👍😁🙏🏻. Thank God for keeping your head 👍😁🙏🏻😍
First of all let me say I love the way you guys are raising your Daughters. I raised my daughters to do everything my sons could do. None of this girls or boys stuff. Chores were chores. I've been carrying for 30plus years. 2018 I had my first legitimate draw at a rural rest area 5-600 miles from home at about 2am. Thankfully I didn't have to shoot. The thing that kept going thru my head was a female instructor I had years ago. "If you draw be prepared to shoot. If you shoot pray he's armed. It's easier to a prove fear for your life if he is armed" I had full intentions of protecting me and mine that night on the freeway but in all reality I am thankful I didn't have to shoot. Long story short the guy was want for carjacking. He actually was armed with a screwdriver but since I reacted as I did he didnt have time to get it from behind his back tucked in his belt.

Smart man. Some people have loose screws. Staying quiet diffuses the crazy situation.
