BMW iX M60 - Or Buy the iX 50? | REVIEW

- The BMW iX M60 is the second electric car tuned by the iconic BMW Motorsport division. Following in the steps of the i4 M50, the BMW iX M60 is - for now - the top electric vehicle from Munich. To promote the performance and agility of the iX M60, BMW invited us to Berlin, Germany, to spend a couple of days with the M-tuned electric crossover. Until recently, the BMW iX xDrive50 was the only iX variant on sale in America, but soon customers will have another choice.
At $106,095, the BMW iX M60 is significantly more expensive than the iX xDrive50 - $83,200. But what do you get for your extra money? In terms of options, Adaptive Air Suspension is standard on the iX M60, while it’s an optional extra on the xDrive50. The BMW iX M60 also gets 21″ wheels as-standard. Gesture Control and the Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system are also standard kit on the M60 but not on the xDrive50.
What you’re getting for your extra money, in the BMW iX M60, is added power and performance. Both cars use dual electric motors, one at each axle, powered by the same battery pack, but the iX M60 is far more powerful. The standard BMW iX xDrive50 makes 516 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque, while the more expensive M60 makes 610 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque. According to BMW, the iX xDrive50 takes 4.4 seconds to get from 0-60 mph, which is downright leisurely compared to the M60’s time of 3.6 seconds. So if it’s speed you’re after, the BMW iX M60 delivers it like a proper M car.

Is the BMW iX M60 worth the price over the iX 50?
No unfortunately.
I would like the 50 for the extra range but only 200kph is way to slow I need 250 so M60 it is😁

If money no object, iX M60
The problem is, if Bowers&wilkins and the glass roof, come as standard on M60 as i have heard, but need to add these for ix50, the price goes up more.
The final difference in money will be less between them.
Is the iX M60 worth the price over the iX 50? I would say no. That was the exact question I was dealing with being that I’m in the market for a premium electric SUV/SAV.
However the numbers don’t add up for me, paying practically $14k more for the M60 only to gain 94 horsepower which goes from 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds VS the iX 50 that does it in 4.4 seconds. That’s practically 1 second and I don’t think that 1 second is worth that $14k more nor do I think that it will be that much noticeably different. Not only that when it comes to EV’s your now compromising the range of the vehicle which is the most important thing to concern yourself with on a day to day basis.
So the bottom line is that the only thing that the M60 offers is that it’s fine tuned by the M division with 94hp more and no significant exterior difference.
So I placed my order for the 2023 iX 50 that does the 0-60 in about 1 second less than the M60 and I also will have 324 miles of range VS the 288 miles of range on the M60.
M60 also has B&W audio while IX 50 has the Harmon Kardon (good, but not as good). But, I agree IX 50 far better. Wish they had option to get the 20" tires with the sport look that offers more exterior options. Currently, the 20" tires (w 324 miles range) only comes with Shadowline Design. Wish the automakers would permit the option for smaller tires with higher aspects for any design. Can't believe that people with no understanding of tires and aspect ratio are permitting the automakers to push the large low profile tires that have absolutely no advantage over higher profile tires, except for race track setting. Are people buying a SUV for drag racing?

I experienced some really harsh shift stepping on the pedal of ix60 no matter how gentle I pressed. The ix 50 on the other hand gives you the punch without that jerk feeling. One can lease one ix50 now at around 900 a month and 1200 for ix60 now in USA, kind of attempting🎉. I like that 100 extra hp on 60 but that shift feeling really kills the deal. Any owner has any first hand long term experience on ix60?
We will get our M60 long term soon and will take a look at that
cant justify 30k CAD extra from a xdrive 50 to get extra unexploitable performance on canadian roads. I’ll slap on 3 badges and none will see the difference 😂 Fully loaded xdrive50 is the optimal choice for me.

Like you said; want versus need. I want and need the M60. The extra price over the M50 is a bit of a shocker, but some of the extras included in the M60 helps balance it out. In my opinion.

@@bmwblog thank you very much . there is only air suspension spec on M60 in our country . x40 and x50 is only come in Coil suspension , so i have no choice but goin for M60 only.

Wait until you find out that the powertrains are identical between the 50 and m 60. The "up to" 617hp is only in launch mode. A party trick.

In my 40 years driving, the iX is the most comfortable and pleasant car I’ve ever driven. Sometimes I wonder if the 50 is enough (and saved $20k); though I’m just a sucker for the ‘M’ batch and the bronze wheel.

The front grille is not attractive. Its a dealbreaker.

I'm gonna say this once and for all. It ain't an M car unless it's got horned mirrors, quad exhausts and a twin turbo V8. PERIOD. All those lesser M cars (M2, M3. M4, etc) are just fakers.

You almost never give any coverage to the big boys or even the 8 series. All you cover are M2, M3, and M4 with an SUV occasionally thrown in to make it look comprehensive lol

We did. You can see the top speed in some sections of the video. If the car wasn't exciting enough, not our fault.
