I finally realized why I like your channel so much. Your first priority are the reviews. Too many channels are focused on the hosts' personality first; the actual review seems to be an afterthought. You guys keep that to a minimum and just.review.vehicles. I appreciate that.
Well thank you, we appreciate the kind words and are glad you like what we are putting out. Our main goal is to help people buy vehicles and make the process a little easier for them.
You bring the entertainment of your reviews to another level by going off topic, making jokes and having so much fun! We need that type of content more than ever! Thanks again!
The exterior styling is one that we’ll eventually grow on you, but the interior and the BMW handling dynamics more than makes up for it. Thanks for another great review! Love your channel.
I just want to thank both of you. I think you do great work. Your videos are both informative and entertaining. I’ve been watching you guys for years. We’ll done!
Another fun fact: you two are truly awesome together, and I love it when you have little comments about your family, like your son's climate change assignment, and "what say you, mom/dad?" 😅
Good point about battery size and resource allocation. Full EVs with huge batteries and mega performance are not exactly “green” - which is fine if one has the means and intent to purchase excess. However, the government should not incentivize that option with public funds.
The better option is the ixdrive 40 89 000 and no crystal in the cabin. Less weight with the 77kw/h battery and more fuel efficient. Looks very good in black and white. You should review it this fall!
I decided to buy the M60 over the Tesla Model X because of the fit and finish of the interior. The test drive sold me, immediately. However, your quip about the battery/ies is exactly right; this is lunacy. I wish it were a hybrid. This is the first time I've run across your channel, but that comment, alone, made me subscribe. Finally, common sense instead of blind fanaticism.
Thanks for the review! I ordered a fully loaded iX 50 back in February. I don’t own any gas cars, me and my wife have been daily driving our Chevrolet Bolt Evs for 4 years. This BMW should serve us well as a 3rd car for outings.
Did you know that the slim LED headlights are the slimmest BMW has ever put in a production vehicle?! So many 💎 in this video. You all really have outdone yourselves with this review.
I had a Rav4 hybrid as a rental last week and got 40mpg in mixed suburban/highway driving. We own a NX made on the same platform and the difference was surprisingly wide. The Rav felt more like a truck with bumps unsettling the chassis and much more road noise. However, we only get 26.5 mpg over all with the non-hybrid NX.
"Can't fix ugly" that's for sure. Why? Why would one of the greatest car companies of automotive history decided to create fugly looking cars? One may never know.
4:02 This is true for the 2022MY xDrive50, however the 2023MY xDrive50 changed this. If you want 4 wheel steering and 2-axle air suspension, you have to add a total of $17,100 in options given option package interdependencies. You can't even get adaptive cruise control without fully speccing out the xDrive50.
Great video! Both of you are making me through the video. Both of you had made a lot of good points but coffee holder is too far and missing coffee holder in the 2nd row! ☕️☕️
Love your thoughts about the 66 RAV4 hybrids. It definitely makes sense, unfortunately, we can see that it's not the true goal of BMW. Great reviews as usual!
It took me approximately 7 years to like what the BMW i3 looks like (launched in 2014), and their logic (in design). Unlike the i8, which took … around 6-1/2 seconds! This latest BMW offering I’m sure, will grow on me… maybe. However… at over $120,000 Canadian, it might take me about 9-1/2 YEARS to figure out how I’d be able to afford it. Thanks for your impressions.
On the topic of headlights, manufacturers have focused so much on improving headlight technologies and unique LED lighting signatures. This, in combination with interior electronic screens has caused the issue of owners not turning exterior lights on at night. The number of modern cars being driven as ghost vehicles at night is frightening. No one seems to be addressing this. (My mid 90’s VW had automatic headlights, so cmon…) In some of your shots, it looks like the taillights function as DRL’s. Has BMW finally addressed the ghost vehicle issue?
Since at the moment in the U.S. the 50 is not available with air suspension or rear-axle steering, I would really appreciate opinions about how much of a difference the air suspension makes. Will the heavy 50 without air suspension be disappointing or still a ride worth the astounding price?
In the old days I always wanted a BMW. Now that I can afford one, Except for the 2 and the 8 they are so grotesque, I wouldn't want one. Thank's BMW! Saved me a lot of money!
The grill has been and continues to be a stopper. I was set to buy a BMW M4 Coupe when I retired from the Army in 2020, but I could never get even close to accepting that unnecessarily massive grill.
The guy on Bay St is going to be driving a 500hp monster so using an ev reduces a lot of emissions over a gas hotrod equivalent. Also, the tech that goes into these premium cars will trickle down to us common folk.Hopefully by the time new gas cars are phased out there will be plenty of affordable ev options. I am about two cars away from electric. My next car will be an Outback but the one that replaces it will be some sort of ev.
Great review as always but the points on battery size and our consumption of limited resources is spot on. It feels like we’re trying to force the EV transition without a broad plug-in hybrid adoption that would have made a smoother transition (and much better use of resources) … and this is me speaking as an EV owner!
I thought it was ridiculous for Hyundai to charge people a monthly fee for remote start, but now I'm reading that BMW is charging monthly fees for heated seats, heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control and High beam assist. This is crazy.and shame on them !
It’s not just the grille.. everything is way out of proportions in this IX it will never grow on me and I think at least 85% people who seen it thinks the same.
Definetely polarizing styling, I’m not sure I understand the comment that PHEV are the only way to go in Canada 🇨🇦 .. winter battery performance? Also the suggestion that this 100 kwh battery would serve better use assisting 55 x 1,8 kwh mild hybrid surprised me, basic economics teach us that the price of the iX (between 90k CAD since the iX 40 is now available to order to 115k fully optioned) compared to a 30k hybrid RAV4 will automatically distribute the rare materials effectively based on demand and offer.. This iX is quite interesting in my opinion, it offers an alternative to the Tesla model X with better workmanship although 20% less efficiency. This was what BMW was aiming at. Many less polarizing BMW models are coming out in the next year, the iX1 being the next one to be imported to Canada after the i7.. keep up the interesting videos, you are always fun to watch😊
I fully agree with you that an Hybrid vehicle is the better option. Cost is quite reasonable and efficiency is quite good. The Hyundai Tucson could be my next SUV...
Hello there! Thanks for sharing. We have so many things today everything is changing, tech will become better than ever, but still something I really care is the quality! How reliable those new things can be! I think all reputation is built upon the quality! Not the quality of the materials, it's the quality of the reliability!!
How much extra range would these EVs get if they went from 0-60 in 7 seconds instead of 3 seconds? I just don't understand why manufacturers are so obsessed with speed when the whole point of EVs is to save money on gas and lower emissions
EVs just didn’t sell until they reached ridiculous performance levels. But I also wonder how much more efficient they could be if the electric motors used in them were less powerful, must be a sweet spot there somewhere.
@@pdd3 Tesla is making a lot of questionable things fashionable. Moving controls to a screen, glass roofs and unnecessary performance are 3 things I can think of.
My commute is 288 miles one way. My 2024 iX50 gets me there without stopping and recharging it. Actually, the battery needs to offer longer than the 324-mile range, as driving at highway speeds reduces the potential range. I think EVs will take off when ranges exceed 400-450 miles.
I was looking at one at my dealer a couple of days ago and it looks much nicer in person I found. Especially in an exterior dark colour. Price tag, however…. 🙀
Ain't nothing wrong with a minivan (for convenience and capacity). I agree that the resources needed for this HUGE battery could serve the general public better with 50+ Rav4 Hybrids instead. Thanks for the review and I don't like the Miss Piggy/Darth Vader grill either.
EV's are the best bet for general public if the electricity is generated through renewable sources such as solar. I do agree that average person wouldn't need 100kWh battery if the charging infrastructure was like gas stations. By the way, I have an iX 50 and it does have a wireless Android Auto.
I like the interior and I'm not hung up on the grill. It's way too big is my problem with it. I can't justify the size of it when I rarely use the size. But I think there's nothing wrong with the exterior design except the grill is oversized. The interior is more important to me. No mention of any of the sounds it makes? Why not? I don't like them but it does offer fake propulsion noise. I agree about making changes for change sake. Some tried and true things work better. As for acceleration and horsepower, all overkill.
I mean, I can understand with the Vegan seats with the Polestar 2, where its recycled plastic in its material. Though marketing gimmicks cause for bigger price tags.
Why are the latest BMW's grills based on either: a) Bugs Bunny front teeth, or b) The huge snout of the green pigs in "Angry Birds". BMW's current design department needs help from the designers of the 2000 BMW 7 series.

One pedal driving is an art that needs to be mastered. The accelerator needs to be caressed. You can't just stop accelerating abruptly and expect to have a smooth ride. Someone who drives a stick shift or automatic transmission vehicle recklessly will make people sick too. I understand regen braking is new to some people and they won't like it so giving them the option is fine as well.
Don't LOVE the "grill" but don't hate it either. Definitely not enough that if I had the money and I was buying an EV, this is the car I would buy. Does the most right (almost everything) out of any EV I've seen so far.
The interior looks good, but the outside... Wait for the XM to come out, they're testing the market with the uglymeter 🤣🤣🤣 The MPV is not dead 🤭; and yes I agree, rather have a hybrid than a full EV
