    I’ll add to the party. It’s great to see you back, looking well, and posting again. Your content is always so informative, without the hype that pervades too many other creators content.

    I agree with you, I think what we need is a re-release of the boxed set. Here’s to hoping someone from HC watches your videos! ❤

    I'm marveling at the thickness of the last edition 2023 single volumen, looks almost like LoTR... but is really that much information? I mean I read the Hobbit first time like a month ago, very short tale, and now this history of the Hobbit looks like even bigger than, LotR itself ... why is it this big?

    I had come across the old versions, which I would have likely bought if I could, now I am just considering whether or not I should, it would certainly fit the rest of the books in that style but it is too big to really read I feel.

    it really is unwieldy to read, but glad i have it. Can you recommend somewhere in the UK to get those glassine/mylar covers you use ? looking forward to the next video :)

    Thanks for the update. My copy of the book has the 2011 yellow&black cover, and it is the 3rd printing. Now it can be confirmed that it’s the 4th printing that has the new cover

    Thanks for the new video content! This is probably one of my favourite Tolkien(-related) books. I do own a shrink-wrapped US version of the slipcase edition and also the one-volume edition with the boring cover which I'm using for actual reading. I didn't even know there was a new edition and even a deluxe version, I might put that on my wish list.

    Can someone explain to me why the 2023 single volume edition has more pages than the 2011 edition

    • @rlukins
      @rlukins 9 днів тому

      It's just different paper stock, which explains the different thicknesses. I believe the text blocks and paginations are unchanged.

    I would very much like to own the 2011 edition that matches the _The History of Middle Earth_ set from 2002, but since its ISBN is identical to the new edition, it has proven a rather difficult task, unfortunately. Anyway, thank you for uploading again.

      Because what's in the video IS the 2011 one: just got a new dustjacket. Heck, even the print number carried over (so if the 2011 one ended at, say, 5, then the new one w/ the Nasmith cover would start at 6).
      If hunting for the 2011 one w/ the original (2011 that is) cover, make sure the seller has a PHOTO of the book and aren't using a stock/product image.

    I've always felt, even in revised and expanded form (2011 and current reprints) that it should've remained as two books.
    Now it'll match with The Nature of Middle-earth and the new hardback boxed sets of The History of Middle-earth.

    Thanks for the video and showing me how the book looks. It would look great on the book shelf but I'm not sure if I'd read it front to back. I would enjoy glancing at it though I'm sure. I feel like some things are better left unknown such as Gollum giving the ring away in the previous edition as you mentioned. Kind of messes with one's current concept of the story so I don't want to know these things, lol. So I'm not sure if I should buy it. We'll see. Thanks

    Once again man fantastic video, was wondering what this book was when I saw it on your shelf last video, had no idea it came out must have slipped past the radar, when can we have some ranking videos, we all curious what are your favourite settings characters, books, movies etc

    It was a strange decision to release two books in a single book format. I would find that too unwieldy to try and read.

    I've just noticed that the first volume of my two edition set is the American printing and the second is the UK printing. Looking forward to you covering some more of the books that have come out over the last while.
