    For the first one (elongate your exhales), do we exhale through our mouth or nose?

    • @carenhope

      with any abnormal experience, it is always wise to make sure you are up to date on your medical check ups. Nightmares can just be nightmares, but they can also be related to medical problems. Bad digestion, blood sugar issues, blood pressure issues.
      Always best to check up and make sure there are no underlying medical conditions.

    I need help: I'm in school and ever since last year I had an anxiety disorder that had me homeschooled most of last year. I'm back in school this year but anxiety still bothers me. I'm too aware of my breathing, I make sure I'm breathing way too often. How do I stop this? I just want to know and understand that I am breathing, because I clearly am.

    • @DenizAydoslu
      @DenizAydoslu 8 років тому +2

      Hi Steven, maybe it will help you to focus on your exhalations. Try to exhale through pursed lips, like you are blowing up a balloon. This will make your exhalations longer and trigger a parasympathetic response, or in other words relax your nervous system and reduce anxiety.

    • @steviesoprano
      @steviesoprano 8 років тому +1

      Yoga to Fix your Life interesting, thanks. I've tried this before but since my anxiety only makes me focus on the negative at the time, I feel like doing that is still wrong. But I'll try it out right now.

    • @carenhope
      @carenhope  8 років тому +8

      +Steven Hi Steven, I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with anxiety. It sounds like you are too aware of your breathing. Have you tried focusing on another place in your body when you get anxious? For example, on your fingertips?

    • @jms9688
      @jms9688 8 років тому +9

      Hi Steven, yoga and meditation provide an anchor to deal with anxiety, but some people need more than that. If your anxiety persists despite yoga and meditation practice, see a healthcare professional (your GP and/or a psychologist). Maybe you need therapy. Make sure you get the right help if your anxiety persists and don't be ashamed to seek help, especially as a boy. Boys tend to seek help less as they are taught to be tough in many cultures, but this makes them the victim of mental disorders more often than necessary. Seeking help for mental problems is not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength and courage. Last, you're not alone. Many people suffer from anxiety. Don't let it linger. Good luck!

      +Edvin Löf You may have sleep apnea. Get your doctor to check it out, can be dangerous sometimes.

    • @nativeroots9564
      @nativeroots9564 8 років тому +1

      +Edvin Löf I also have it right before I go to sleep. I don't really mouth breathe as much during the day so I think I get short of breath falling asleep because I'm trying to still breathe out of my nose which is harder for me while laying down. I saw a nose throat and ear doctor who said my nasal folds (think that's what they are called they're in the back of your nose) are large which makes it difficult for me to breathe out of my nose. I also have bad allergies. I would see a nose throat and ear specialist they can tell you what's going on. I know it's scary feeling like you aren't getting good breaths. I still get anxiety over it at times.

    I have anxiety attack 24/7. Not kidding. I can´t breathe and it´s purely psychosomatic. I feel strong pressure under my sternum. I feel pressure on my ribs and stomach, whole torso. It´s like something is crushing my ribs and with it crushing my lungs. Even slow walking is huge problem. And don´t get me start on staircases. Cause is my work. I am over stressed.

    I'm having trouble doing this. When I exhale I feel like I'm suffocating, and when I press on my stomach, it doesn't push the air out. I'm trying to overcome ocd problems where I feel embarrassed thinking about my breathing & It's caused me to feel very detached from my emotions. I breathe wrong because I'm embarrassed & I'm trying to learn to breathe right again.

      +Priscila Esteva I feel you. I know exactly what you mean. I haven't found a perfect solution though. I can only advice you to take a more deep breath than usually when you feel overwhelmed in a situation. Also "escaping" outside isn't bad thing to do, you just have to learn to think what's best for you. :)

      David, are you breathing from your abdomen or from your upper chest? Try resting your hands on your abdomen and taking a breath. If it doesn't move, that may be why you get more anxious.

    I love breath work! It's so important to practice regularly and definitely has amazing benefits for reducing anxiety.

    apparently it can work the other way around as well....I was doing too many of these series, everyday for a couple of weeks. I was hyperventilating, which was causing almost to daydream...very pleasant/disturbing experience, together with running and stretching I felt dangerously invincible. need to do less I guess....Anybody else?

      Perhaps get curious as to why and what's coming up emotionally. These breathing techniques move our prana, which can jolt us into different emotional states. If uncomfortable, perhaps the type of practice could shift to help you feel more grounded.

      That's a fair point. I am going through quite a lot of stress at the moment, just about to submit my academic thesis, and I am trying to juggle way too many things at the same time. I love the video though, don't get me wrong. You seem a lovely person.
      All the best with the channel :)

    Hey thanks for this my one of my nostrils is always blocked? What should I do?

    • @carenhope
      @carenhope  7 років тому

      I wouldn't try to force it or close that nostril off because you'll have trouble breathing. Try a different technique, instead!

    Very calm and helpful breathing techniques...How many repetitions of each breathing exercise is advised ?
