Thanks for getting me started in the world of Nintendo Switch gameplay recording. Just got my first footage today! Thanks for being a part of my journey and taking the effort to put this instructional together.
Thanks! I am going to be working on new videos that explain things really well. However I'm moving all my game videos to my other channel: ua-cam.com/channels/Rqh4na8VTRQJvWQzsQIlfw.html make sure to follow on there!
In my experience there was no real noticible latency. I played games like Celeste that requires incredible precision (though there is always the possibility of latency when using a USB device). If you're a competitive player and are worried about latency I'd probably recommend using a PCIe card like Aver Media Live Gamer or Elgato's version. There are also NDI streaming setups. Just google that and you'll find some good resources. If budget is tight though and you just want to get started and see if you even like streaming/recording your gaming, this is a nice introduction. ErickFreshh, this method is meant for you to use the Laptop (in your case) as your monitor. This is the product you'd need: amzn.to/3glIj9L - in that case, you'd put an HDMI cable from your switch to the HDMI in port in the HD60S, then an HDMI cable from the HD60S HDMI out port, into your TV. When I connect my Xbox up via the cam link 4K there seems to be a small delay when displaying the Xbox image on the pc monitor making it rather difficult to play said game, any ideas on how to fix this ?

I currently stream off of PS4 and do not have PC yet. I have a Sony a6000 camera already. Is it possible to use Sony a6000 with this capture card into the PS4? So using the Sony a6000 as the PS4 webcam?
Hi Emily! Unfortunately the PS4 doesn't have wide support for third-party webcams, so if you wanted to stream on the PS4, you are pretty much limited to the Playstation branded camera.
Thanks for this video! I just tried this method on my Switch, and the audio keeps cutting intermittently. Updated all sound drivers necessary and tried out multiple different HDMI cables. Have you run into this problem/Any idea what might be working incorrectly?
@ Not quite yet, but I've tried on another computer and the problem isn't there - seems to be an issue with audio driver compatibility. Will keep you updated!
@@hugomakes I decided to try it on another computer, had the lag issue but your video was super helpful. Seems like a driver issue I had on the other computer - thank you so much for your helpful tips & follow-up!
Yes, there are some limitations -- you can find them on www.elgato.com/en/cam-link-4k - scroll to the bottom and click on specifications and it will show you the supported resolutions.
Quick question once I have my Cam link linked up with Streamlabs OBS do I now have to play now on the streamlabs screen? or can I open 4K Capture program and play on there?? I am using this for my PS4.
In OBS, right-click on the video capture device source, and then click on fullscreen projector (source), and now you should have a full screen view of the PS4, I'm also using it in the same way. Now quick question, how did you get the audio to come out through the PC?
Great question. Technically yes it would be possible, but remember that the Cable/Satellite provider box might have HDCP enabled (copy protection) when using HDMI out. You would probably need an HDMI splitter that strips out the encryption. I've never done it so I'm not 100% sure and I currently don't have TV service to try it out. You will want an actual DVR software on your PC, not OBS for an overall better dvr experience, but I don't see why it would technically NOT be impossible to achieve what you want. Can you report back if you get it working?
Hugo Makes I’m thinking about buying the cam link or other video capture, items a risk buying the first one cause it’s cheaper but Idk. If I decide to take the risk I’ll let you know. Thanks for the answer man!
Very informative video! I have a quick question - I want to record gameplay on my monitor using my PS4 console and record myself with my Sony a6400. Would I need both the cam link (to replace the webcam) and the HD60 game capture to record the gameplay? If so, how would the set up look like? Thanks again in advance!
Correct! You would need both the Elgato Camlink (for a webcam replacement for your Sony A6400) and the Elgato HD60 to capture the gameplay. The Sony Camera's HDMI connection would connect to the Camlink's HDMI in and the Camlink's USB out to the computer via USB3. Then the PS4 would connect via HDMI in to the HD60 and USB3 out to the computer. In OBS you would set the Camlink as video capture device and the HD60 also as a video capture device. A couple of small notes: I took a quick look at your camera and you will need a dummy battery to power the camera so it can do continuous recording. www.elgato.com/en/gaming/cam-link/camera-check - something like this: amzn.to/38scEkg - you can hold off on buying that though, until you know that it works good in your tests. You might also need an HDMI micro to HDMI cable as the camera doesn't have a FULL HDMI connection. Something like this: amzn.to/38vAMCH - just do your research since I just did on the surface research just in case. Hope that helps :)
I just looked up both the elgato cam link and elgato hd60. Those products combined come close to $500 after tax. Are these really the only products you can use? Are there more affordable options?
Yes you can, but you need Apple's Lightning Digital AV Adapter: www.apple.com/shop/product/MD826AM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter - let me know if it helps! You the adapter to your iPhone and then the HDMI cable to the Elgato Camlink and you're good to go.
The Elgato Cam Link will not work for that use case because the Camlink does not have video passthrough. You would need something like Elgato HD60 instead (here is a link to it: amzn.to/3gYrd21). The XBOX One X would connect via HDMI in to the HD60 and USB3 out to the computer. Then you would connect an additional HDMI cable to the HDMI out on the HD60 to your TV/monitor. Hope that helps :)
Hi Omega! Sorry I didn't see your message. If you already figured it out let me know, but do you mean when you are playing in preview mode, you press a button and it takes a bit of time between when you take an action and sound comes through your speakers within OBS preview window? This happened to me. Instead of using 4K game capture, use just the game capture software: www.elgato.com/en/gaming/downloads
@@hugomakes I meant that when I plug everything in and everything should work, the screen where I see the switch screen has very low FPS. But I sent it back to amazon because I didn't wanted to waste money :/
Hi! Yes, this is certainly possible. You do have to make sure that your laptop has a USB 3.x input and it is powerful enough to run OBS and the El Gato Capture software (if you have a fairly modern laptop you should be OK). Here are the system requires straight from Elgato: help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028242111-Cam-Link-System-Requirements Good luck!
tried quite literally everthing to get this to work with my ps5, gave it priority in OBS cause maybe another program was using it, switched out usb ports, switched out laptops to see if that was the issue, downloaded brand new software cause maybe obs was the issue no streamlabs didn't work either, checked graphics cards, made sure obs was only using my graphics cards. NOTHING worked, still a flashing black screen, first it's a full black screen then it changes to no signal, then back to full black screen. 100$+ BRICK, But hey at least it caputres direct from pc so if i ever wanna be a loser streamer i can do that. I took a quick look at your camera and you will need a dummy battery to power the camera so it can do continuous recording. www.elgato.com/en/gaming/cam-link/camera-check - something like this: amzn.to/38scEkg - you can hold off on buying that though, until you know that it works good in your tests.
You might also need an HDMI micro to HDMI cable as the camera doesn't have a FULL HDMI connection. Something like this: amzn.to/38vAMCH - just do your research since I just did on the surface research just in case.
Hope that helps :)
Hugo Makes thank you so much! You earned yourself a sub 😊
@@RayBanLacy Thank you!
I just found this thread about streaming PS4 with Sony a6000. I'm going to try this but to be honest I am clueless when it comes to this stuff. 😅
I just looked up both the elgato cam link and elgato hd60. Those products combined come close to $500 after tax. Are these really the only products you can use? Are there more affordable options?
Does this work for iphone?
Yes you can, but you need Apple's Lightning Digital AV Adapter: www.apple.com/shop/product/MD826AM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter - let me know if it helps! You the adapter to your iPhone and then the HDMI cable to the Elgato Camlink and you're good to go.
@@hugomakes Thank you so much
How can i live stream from my xbox one x?and still play on my 4k tv?am stuk here
The Elgato Cam Link will not work for that use case because the Camlink does not have video passthrough.
Hugo Makes okay then i will send this back!thanks
Hugo Makes okay i will try this one
Hugo Makes thank you
You are welcome! Good luck.
thx
Hope it helped!
its sure did
is there a way i can do it without cam link
You will need some kind of video capture device in order to stream or capture video I'm afraid.
I did your steps but I have zero Audio
why does it Lag so much when I try it? :/
But I sent it back to amazon because I didn't wanted to waste money :/
can you help me out
Can you use a laptop??
Hi! Yes, this is certainly possible. You do have to make sure that your laptop has a USB 3.x input and it is powerful enough to run OBS and the El Gato Capture software (if you have a fairly modern laptop you should be OK). Here are the system requires straight from Elgato: help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028242111-Cam-Link-System-Requirements
Good luck!
Can you connect your camera and console stream at the same time ?
no
It works for 30 seconds, then freezes.
If I connect the capture card to my switch, and the HDMI to my capture card, how do I connect it to the TV?
u need an HDMI SPLITTER, otherwise you have to play with the preview window but it has a lot of latency.
tried quite literally everthing to get this to work with my ps5, gave it priority in OBS cause maybe another program was using it, switched out usb ports, switched out laptops to see if that was the issue, downloaded brand new software cause maybe obs was the issue no streamlabs didn't work either, checked graphics cards, made sure obs was only using my graphics cards. NOTHING worked, still a flashing black screen, first it's a full black screen then it changes to no signal, then back to full black screen. 100$+ BRICK, But hey at least it caputres direct from pc so if i ever wanna be a loser streamer i can do that. Even though i LITERALLY only bought this cause i didn't wanna buy another tv, so now not only do i have to buy a tv I basically have to pay double cause i wasted money on this LOL.
lol does not work

Thank you sir!🎉
You're most welcome!
