There is a very simple test that refutes any thesis that defends multitasking. The test initially consists of timing a person first writing numbers from 1 to 10 and immediately after that, starting to write letters from A to J. The second phase consists of writing this same sequence of numbers and letters alternately: 1 - A, 2 - B to 10 - J. Certainly the second phase consumes more time.
