A belt drive would have been great, I see the Shotgun as Royal Enfield's Sportster, so why not? But at least Royal Enfield still know how to make a center stand, most other manufacturers seem to have forgotten.
I agree, I was going to buy a new SM650, but for a bit less got a very low miles C50T suzuki... the shaft drive was the winner. Had the Enfield been belt drive??

I live in Cambodia, though, I am from the Isle of Wight. Just ordered one of these and they are $6500 USD here, so an amazing price. I have watched quite a few videos about the shotgun and this for me was the best. Cannot wait for it to be delivered!
This is a lovely bike. The price is amazing. Royal Enfield is doing some terrific marketing research. They are giving people all over the world a motorcycle that can put a smile on anyone's face. Quality, finish, value and dependability. They are building Brand Loyalty, and I would like to have one.
If I was about to buy this motorcycle this collor would definitely be my option. It fits so well with its classic design and it reminds me about the military herritage of this legendary brand.
Thorough review as always Mark, I think Royal Enfield can be forgiven for the relatively heavy weight of the Super Meteor as it’s a cruiser, but the Shotgun I’m not so sure ? Not everyone wants a retro but if you want a Shotgun there’s a heavy penalty to pay in weight 🇬🇧
Nice review Mark. As an older rider I appreciate the machinery here. Problem I saw was it's weight. Same as my old Triumph Sprint GT SE, with full panniers and top box! Center stand is good. Also reminds me of a Bonneville I had with Air/oil cooling. It's £1600 more than the Triumph Speed 400, which is still top of my wish list. Cheers and safe riding.
Hi David yes the new triumph 400 is brilliant....I will say though that even though the shotgun is 240 kg wet ...it really doesn't feel it Best wishes mark
As an owner of a Classic 350 I feel like this is the closest thing to a Classic 650 that we're gonna get. Given the styling, I understand all the comparisons to the Super Meteor but really it seems more like an upgraded Classic to me (minus that cool Classic dash), with the mid controls and that bobber-style single seat.
Thanks for the great review, as usual. You know...this is NOT the kind of bike I'd usually be drawn to, but with the great motor, single seat config, mid controls, and really nice details, it evokes a classic bobber - what were considered hot rods - but very nicely updated! Very attractive as an everyday roller!
A great stylish machine. I just alike a bit more the Super Meteor. :) The RE bikes are conquering the marker quite fast the last 2 years. Great work Mark. Appreciate it. Cheers.
Responsible review for a straightforward Street bike and the lad talks straight and fair, hard to diss any machine nowdays as everything Ive ridden in last 30 years has been good or great.
thats a quikry looking thing but i like it... i didnt know it could be adapted for 2 seats... i have JUST bought the Barcelona blue interceptor with the latest controls/headlight/levers.... i can see me getting a second hand low mileage one of these in a couple of years.... the engine seems more than enough for everyday/fun use.... and i love those handlebars i can see me trying a pair on the interceptor... nice one
I love this bike especially with the rear seat off. Great looking, very 1940s, a few decals I'd remove but that's just me. Great rear mudguard, very classic, no tail tidy nonsense 🙄 Centre stand , fantastic. Air filter, easy access 😎 I agree Mark 5 Star Bike.
Looks like the foot pegs are a bit further forward than the Interceptor's. That is good because the Interceptor pegs are kind of in the way when sitting with both feet on the ground. Any other noticeable differences between the two bikes?
I picked up on that too. I would need a test ride to see what I think of the Shotgun, but the Intercepter felt like a top heavy sled when sitting on both. I dismissed it straight out.
Very nice looking bike Mark, I wonder how it is that Royal Enfield have got these into the country for review.... yet they haven't managed to get new customers the Himalayan 450 they ordered at the end of last year. Great review mate.
That's a fair comment on the 450 Himalayan, I've Been informed that they may not be delivered before end April 24 .......not even demo bikes available as yet 😢
@Grumpysprout yes, my dealer informed me last week that deliveries will now indeed start at the end of April 24. All dealers at that time will also get a display bike and 5 bikes for stock.
Like to the looks and the price, but... That weight! Yeah I know, built like a tank! I owned a triumph street twin 9OO for 3 years, good bike, but wanted something lighter to throw around a bit, got got a trident 660. Anyway, the street twin weighed 216kg, 23 kg less than the shotgun, with 64 bhp and 59lb torque. Which, is a big difference when riding. An 850 version version of the shotgun, would have me buying one, I hope they make one. Thanks for the video.
The rack under the pillion seat is a really good idea. The gloss green colour, with the yellow 'twin' sticker and black gloss engine looks a bit naff in my opinion. Sounds like a decent handling interesting bike overall. Cheers
G'day Mark, it looks good, it rides good, it's price is good, its a great all round winning combination, not for everyone but those that own a Royal Enfield 650 know their worth and all models turn heads and other brands would love the success RE have had world wide, it's simple you like it you buy it, great review, cheers mate Neil 🤠.
Great review Mark as usual but in this colour not the best but I can’t get my head round the rear mudguard 😮 It spoils the look 👀 obviously it would look better with a single seat in my opinion 😊😊 Atb phil
Im fairly confident this is my next bike. I like the QD rear seat but not with the rack remived as i hate the Bobber style bikes with a passion. Nice colour also, but I would prefer a matt black engine, not gloss.
Well that was quite a revelation when you got it “Pulling” up the hill, see what I did there😂. The sound sample was good though your thought of changing the cans might be a popular one. 👍👌👏
Great review Mark! Good to hear how comfortable the bike is to ride. The mid control footpegs look comparable to the Meteor 350 as well as the seat style. Love my INT 650 but my Meteor 350 is a much more comfortable bike to ride. Agree, I think bar end mirrors would look great on the Shotgun. Maybe a nice Dart style windscreen. The pillion seat removal exposing a rear rack is brilliant. The rear light is that lovely bullet style like as on the Meteors. Notice too that RE has extended the oil cooler cover to protect the side tanks. I will definitely check out the Shotgun when it arrives in the US. Thank you Mark!
I have to say I am getting a bit tired of RE just repackaging the same old engines and chassis over and over again. It's about time that they developed some larger capacity bikes (I know they recently brought out a larger capacity Himalayan) rather than just relying on two main engines. It is all rather boring for one of the largest motorcycle producers in the world.
You didn't hang about getting hold of a demo , first uk review I've seen,.. from the side it reminds me of my Gunmetal 350 classic with the 650 motor chucked in it, it looks good , I like the gloss black and green paint/engine gloss black , rear seat removal is handy to provide a decent carrier for a big dry bag for touring/camping gear . Don't know about "sporty", other reviews have commented on poor ground clearance on cornering ? Looking forward to finding out for myself on that point. Cheers, Mel.
Nice 👌 😊 Be great if RE would offer belt drive conversion kits for all models. Also wire spoked tubeless rims and tubeless tyres. Chains and tubes are only gripes ive got with any RE bikes. Entire range is excellent 👌 👏 👍

Hi Mark - good review, it seams like they realised the Interceptor had slightly funny ergonomics ( because it had the 24 degree rake for the Continental ) so created this with a more comfortable rake and mid mounted foot rests -thoughts ? I recently traded my Interceptor for a Classic 350 and haven’t looked back
Hi Tom the classic 350 is fantastic...I really enjoyed the shotgun it sits nicely between the interceptor and super meteor...the handling is excellent plus it's very comfortable Best wishes mark
240kg wet weight? Really? Or did I mishear '214'kg? [Edit: looked it up, and of course you were right. 240kg. That is w-a-y too lardy for a 46 bhp twin. Different type of machine, I know, but the Triumph 400 single has a 21% better power:weight ratio, and weighing a mammoth 70kg less than the RE makes it a very attractive option]

@@markpulling12 No worries, Mark. You keep 'em coming. 👍
Not sure I like this, I do like the seat, rack and single seat options though 😮, thank Mark xx 🍀❤️
Hi Martine thanks ....yes it is a little quirky lol 😅...but rides superbly xx
Ahhh I just don't like it... nothing like concept.
👍
Great review Mark..tnx
Many thanks 👍 my pleasure 😄
Cheers mark
The exhausts look horrendous and will rust badly over time. The cost is not much less than a Honda 750 hornet. No comparison in my humble opinion.
If you want an Enfield you probably overlook the soulless Honda.
Fair value, I suppose, and quite good dynamically but…..very odd styling (which is subjective) and too heavy.
Hi Mark
Please do a review on a Kawasaki ninja zx4rr
Will do tom ...it's taking a while to get one on demo here in the UK
Cheers mark
They should have one waiting just for you with a red carpet rolled out!
@@tomlabarbara6277 haha brilliant:)
Hi Mark and thanks for the review. Shotgun , Super M, Interceptor and CB500X - all comparable in price. Which one would you choose. Just asking... curiosity.
Hi I like naked bikes at the moment...so definitely the shotgun for me :)
@@markpulling12 What is your opinion on the quality of these bikes?
@@bTrait Hi they are absolutely fine for the money ...not quite honda standard but getting better.. but royal Enfield are the number 1 selling bikes in the UK ...that's definitely says something.. ..100 000s are sold worldwide to happy owners
Best wishes mark
I’m cheap. I would go for a used Honda CB 500 X.
awesome bike
Thanks yes ...handles so well 😁
Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 i guess it gives thesame comfort ride like my sportster
Unfortunately those exhaust cans look like an afterthought, they would have to go. I'm really not sure about this one tbh... 🤔
A really beautiful bike 👍 Do you feel the weight during slow speed? And how soft is the rear suspension, specialy if you have a pillion? Thanx, and🎉 as always a lovely review mate ✌️
Hi it's quite heavy but you don't notice it even at slow speed ....the rear suspension is firm ...but the handling is sporty...very good
Best wishes mark
Are the mud guards plastic or metal?
