I forgot to say earlier that i searched this video because I just bought a Revere 85 8 mm film projector on eBay. Can't wait. Thanks again. I will surely watch your video to learn how to use it. And you teach so good. I am 89, but when I was 17 in Chicago; my HS friend got one of these classics. And I always thought it was awesome; and believe it or not, I often thought about it. Odd that I would be buying one that many years gone by. Praise Jesus.
Just received a revere 85 from an eBay purchase, for movies we found when our parents pass away. You made set up and use very easy and kept danger from our movies. Thank you for this content!!!! That bulb will melt film ran at a slower speed and melts real fast if film is stopped 😳.
thank you so much for posting this! My grandpa made home movies in the 50s that I have been going thru. The audio is on 78 rpm records that I have been converting to wav files. This projector was in my grandparents' basement with no instructions. This helps a lot!
My Grandparents had ,a 16mm camera, Since the 1940's and Shot Central Park on 16mm film. And I still have them to this very day . Then 8 m.m. Came out plus That took off like hot cakes everybody in the neighborhood Ran out to their local camera shop And purchased 8 m.m. Cameras. When super8 came out the same Thing happened the neighborhood ran out and purchased a super8 movie camera & a dual 8 projector to Go with it . I recommend that You go to the thrift store & buy one. They cost about $25.00 or more and it depends what Condition it's in.
What a wonderful example of engineering, just like the typewriter, video recorder, 35mm camera, fax machine, etc. How quickly these inventions become History.
I have a different brand 8MM projector (Keystone) that I haven't used in almost 35 years and needed a refresher on how to work it. These instructions were very helpful, Thank You.
Great, no nonsense video! Dug my grandparent's out with some old family and newsreels, and definitely didn't want to run it without a refresher exactly like this. You didn't mention in the video, but I do remember being told to run the motor for a while after turning the light off to cool it down and extend its life. That'd be a consequence of rewinding, of course, but in case anyone figures to do that later you should still cool it down before shutting everything off. 3:22 You also prompted me to dig through another part of my basement and pull out my copy of Fable 2. Have to follow the directions, after all.
Thnx a lot! I recently bought something similar and it came with absolutely no instruction manual. I tried for hours to figure out how it worked and now, thanks to your video it took me 2 minutes and it's working great!
Great instruction video. One suggestion.. Use more slack above and below lamp area. Should be a loop big enough to fit your finger into. This will help make your picture less jumpy.
Brother Caleb, most EXCELLENT instructional video sir! Last week a friend of mine gave me a Revere Model 85; he runs an electronics business & someone just dumped it off on him - my friend didn't want to mess with it, so he gave it to me! Serial # B 93332. I'm pretty sure it was manufactured sometime in the 1950s; have been searching for a Revere Camera Co. serial # database resource, but haven't found one yet.
This was great to see this my dad had tons of film on our family plus Laurel and Hardy films Three Stooges and I used to do the same thing set it up for my dad in the 60s now that I'm 70 years old this was great to refresh my memory on how to thread it sad to say we lost it all in a flood years ago thanks for sharing
OMG, thank you so much for posting this video. Pick one of these up last week, it arrived and with your video had it up and running in 10 minutes flat...Excellent!!!
Great little machine and sounds so healthly for its age. Your dog was determined to make a 'brief' appearance.. Great video and excellent camerawork backed up by a nice music track.
I had this exact same model. Very dependable projector. The reason I sold it was the fact that it only had a 200' capacity. I graduated to a Keystone K-109, which takes 400' reels. I love the tiny oil holes. My Keystone has these also.
Thank you for the video. I have my mom and dad's, and have never messed with it. They have about 100 old home movies on on 8mm film, and I have not seen any since I was a child, so very excited to learn how to load this.
I had the same problem. I have the Revere 16mm project and I found a appliance cord at Ace Hardware that worked. The model number is 30124 made Ace, 1/2" spacing between the contacts. Works great.
Thank you so much. I just reciently aquired a 1941 Revere 85 8mm projector in mint condition for $20. Thanks to your video she is projecting like it was new.
Thanks for posting...I would have been lost without this! Picked up an old Bell and Howell master 400 for 10 bucks..I love it! :) This vid helped me understand it sooo much, even though they are not the same they basically work the same.
Thanks for this video! I'm gonna get mine working soon after I get some film and it's nice knowing how to use it. Also I found out the entire unit pivots on its stand, eliminating the need for Fable 2 to tilt it up.
The projected picture increases in size on the screen as the distance is increased between the projector and the screen. For example using a 1 inch lens at a distance from the projector to screen is 5 feet then the width of the projected picture would be 10 inches; 12 feet would have a picture of 2 feet, 1 inch; 20 feet away would project a 3 feet, 5 1/5 inches picture and so on.
Thanks. I'm looking into buying one of these, and I know I would have first turned the light bulb on. I now know how to load a film. (As I don't want an autoload one. Man, treading the thing is part of the groove!
Just acquired a Keystone 8mm projector. Model m8. Here in Oz. Silly me blew Globe with our 240w. This thing is amazing. Want to know more can you help.
Great video! I just bought the Revere 85 and it works perfectly except for the light bulb, which blew out. How do I remove the light bulb without braking it?
This is exactly the projector I have. Would like to change the lamp. Where do I get that bulb and how do I remove it. Do I twist it or pull it. I am in the Montreal area in Quebec, Canada. Tks
Hi, thanks for the tutorial :) I did have a question though, I just bought a 1945 model of this projector at a thrift store and it turns on and everything works I'm just concerned that the bulb smokes when it's on. It this normal? It has two bulbs with it, a replacement and the one in the camera, I tried both and both smoke and burn. I'm assuming it's dust but is this hazerdous to plug in because of all the power it draws?
We did this step by step on our 715 model. And it plays, but only shows half of the negative (half of the screen vertically) please send any advice thanks
Thank you! I just bought this projector from an antique shop in mint condition. I do have a few questions: 1. Can I play color film on this projector? 2. Can I play regular 8mm SOUND films on this projector? Thank you so much!
@Fotografia Aerea Digital Try a sewing machine shop. Or: www.urbanskifilm.com/projectors.html ...slide down and look for: ' PROJECTOR PARTS AND ACCESSORIES ' >> ' BELT MATERIAL KIT ' . Cheers.
I have a 16MM, 1940 Bell and Howell Gaumont Model 601 projector. I figured out how to play the films, but there is no sound. I wrapped the film around the sound drum, and the light (speaker) part is shining through. I don't know what is wrong with it because the film plays good, but there is no sound.. Is there a trick to get the sound working?
Hi Caleb, Do you know where I can get motor parts for the model 85? Mine's motor started up, but within a few seconds after turning on the lamp, there was a puff of smoke from the switch casing, and then it was dead.
my father is going through a bunch of 8mm family movies he made way back in the day, does anyone know if any companies make reproduction projectors or anything we can play the 8mm films on??
I have the Revere model 85; I need to adjust the frame, but I turn the dial clockwise and counter clockwise all the way and it is still not right. Is there a way to fix this?
I am new to this and I just got a DeJUR 1000-B. Your lower reel looks bigger in diameter to the one on top. Does the reel on top is different that the one in the button or they are interchangeable?
Hello I have this problem with my projector when I run the motor the projector starts to smell really bad like melting rubber. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
soooo my great great grandmother had one of these ... and she went around the world ' now i can run the machine properly and watch some family history too... im gunna record it with my phone and upload to youtube too' im excited , but me not owning Fable 2 has brought up some concern after reading some feedback lol wondering if ne one would watch the videos of my family goin around the world ... it was in like 1949' ... idk ... ne ways thanks for the instructions '

First class tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to produce
I have a different brand 8MM projector (Keystone) that I haven't used in almost 35 years and needed a refresher on how to work it. These instructions were very helpful, Thank You.
this tutorial has helped me begin to watch family history stored for 60 yrs! Thank you :)
Thanks for this. Just what I needed to see family films I have not seen in at least 30 years.
By the way, thank you very much Caleb Olson for showing me how to load the projector. Don't have any manual so it was helpful.
Great, no nonsense video! Dug my grandparent's out with some old family and newsreels, and definitely didn't want to run it without a refresher exactly like this.

Found this projector in attic. Has burning smell. Your tutorial was extremely helpful.

So helpful! I found a refurbished Revere 85 and hoping our old 8mm will be viewable.
Just got mine up and running today. Needed this precise video. Glad I found your channel!

What a great tutorial. Just bought one myself and this video is great!!
Nicely made, with clear instruction (cool Fox Terrier watching in the background!)
Yup, at 4:18 - I saw it too, but thought it was a Cat at first?
I was lucky enough to score one of these at an antique store for 35$ and it had the wide angle lens and the manual. Absolutely amazing
Radio Boy absolutely over priced
Thank you, thank you and thank you! This was wonderfully helpful!
You're welcome - glad the video was helpful.
Great tutorial, very thorough and informative! Thank you!!
Just the video I was looking for, very helpful. Thanks!

Didn't have Fable 2... Will Fable 1 work?

Awesome Dude lov your presentation
Amazing video, Thanks for showing us.... I just got one and I would like to know wheere can I buy the bulb and the reel.
Bought one of these cheap a few weeks ago. Here is to hoping it works as well as this one!
Thanks - got my projector up and running with this nice tutorial.
You have a projector? What movies?
I converted one like in this video into a lamp :) - the only movie i have for it is a (bad) stag movie from the late 60s
i have sooooooo many home movies from estate sales.
I would love a couple more movies for it - converting it to run on a led bulb :)
8mm or super8? looks like 8mm.
Thanks for this. I just bought this projector today
Great job! Thanks for this.
Very helpful! Thanks 👍🏻
Is there any way to play a 7" reel on the Revere 85 camera?
This is exactly the projector I have. Would like to change the lamp. Where do I get that bulb and how do I remove it. Do I twist it or pull it. I am in the Montreal area in Quebec, Canada. Tks
I think the projector used in Sinister is a Dejur Model 750..
That’s not even half of the slack people use! And it works
Hi, thanks for the tutorial :) I did have a question though, I just bought a 1945 model of this projector at a thrift store and it turns on and everything works I'm just concerned that the bulb smokes when it's on. Hello
thanks for the explanation
I have a projector E946 but it does not have the belts, where can I get them?
Thank you
@Fotografia Aerea Digital
Try a sewing machine shop. Or: www.urbanskifilm.com/projectors.html ...slide down and look for: ' PROJECTOR PARTS AND ACCESSORIES ' >> ' BELT MATERIAL KIT ' . Cheers.

Grooty Tam go to GameStop :-)
You're pretty much screwed then
I just screwed up my film...don'y forget to remove that tape folks...
How do you change the bulb.
Great Video and instructions. Thank you.
@Betty1834 the bulb is, if you have that exact model in this video, inside the vertical rectangle with the indents at :06. Hope you understand :D
Bottom reel stopped spinning during playback . Any suggestions? Thanks !!
something may be touching the bulb, or the belt could be slipping, or it may just need to be taken apart and lubricated
By the control panel for light and motor, there was a little circle that looked like a window. What is that??
it isn't known
Hi Caleb, Do you know where I can get motor parts for the model 85? Mine's motor started up, but within a few seconds after turning on the lamp, there was a puff of smoke from the switch casing, and then it was dead.
+DDPizazz Sorry, I do not. Best of luck finding the parts you need.
my father is going through a bunch of 8mm family movies he made way back in the day, does anyone know if any companies make reproduction projectors or anything we can play the 8mm films on??

Good question - I'm sorry I don't know the answer. Hoping that if someone does know, they can respond.
Do you know if this type of projector will play film with sound?
The Revere Model 85 does not have sound.
What do I do if the lamp (bulb) breaks?
Where to buy lense?
is there a way to make the picture bigger?
I have this projector which was my father's. Just found it but the cord is missing. Does anyone know where to purchase a replacement cord?
Hello I have this problem with my projector when I run the motor the projector starts to smell really bad like melting rubber. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Sadly, I couldn't do this as I only had Fable 3 for Windows.
Bummer!
I don't have Fable 2, will Skyrim work?
Use at your own risk, Dragonborn.
@@Caleb_Olson
🤣
Thanks for vid, I picked one up for $40 off Facebook and was a little intimidated about using it, your vid helped.
Try moving the projector farther away from the screen.
Does this work for 16mm film too?
King Wasabi no
oh i guess i am missing the wide angle lens, oof
Why did projectors burn the film
It got too hot
I bought one like that for $15 and sold it for $50
Watch SINISTER. The featured projector looks to be a Revere 85...!
This is the projector from sinister
This video is way more betuet the the others
