I have set up this drip irrigation but I have problem with rodents they come and chew on the pipes and it starts leaking when we water causing water clogging .. any suggestions ?
I did as you said planting 2 peppers together. I lost track of which peppers they are, but have some fruit already on them, and as it turns out they are Thai chili peppers. Do you happen to know roughly how many peppers you get on average? Looks like there are about 100 or more blossoms on the 2 plants, likely 150 though. Should I leave them all on to ripen or should I be removing some?
I enjoy your videos. I especially like that you are straight to the point and don't include annoying music. I also like that you speak well and clearly.
Growing peppers and tomatoes is the most gratifying way to start as a new gardener. They are easy to grow. To see your first fruits and eat something you planted is the bomb! I'm hooked.
Jonathan Wichtendahl Congratulations on doing some awesome work. I checked out what AVRDC is doing and its very commendable, excellent work for people around the world, Thanks for your feedback on the video!
+Adam Cote Thank you, I appreciate all my early subscribers who trusted in me and liked my videos. I hope I delivered. Its been three years now and I have uploaded 157 videos...hope to help out my fellow gardeners as much as I can with these videos. Best wishes!!
Hello there, After watching your programme on " how to grow curry leave plant " I brought a curry leave plant it's 2x weeks since I bought it and I am happy to say that the plant is growing. Thank you for your effort in sharing. It is a gift .Love you !!! God Bless you!!
The best garden video i have seen in a while and I watch a lot of garden videos. I too use fish fertilizer this year and also liquid kelp concentrate I am growing everything you are growing except banana peppers. I am curious as to what soil you use as it looks so light and fluffy. I am waiting for siling labuyo pepper seeds to arrive from Philippines.
Hi HoschtonBoy, thanks for your feedback! For potting soil there are many options, for organic option, I generally use Kellogg Patio Plus. But the best value for money is Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting mix (remember the Moisture Control is important as it has Peat Moss which helps a lot). This is the one I have used. It also has a slow release fertilizer which helps in the later growing season. If you have a local Costco you can get it for a cheap price. There is another Potting Soil by StaGreen which is also very nice. Nice to know about siling labuyo pepper - I would like to see it wen you grow it, do share your pictures/video. Happy Gardening!!
I would like to add that the potting soil by Miracle Gro is also available in organic version - called Organic Choice. Some people complain about Miracle Gro not being organic but that is a myth. They have both synthetic and organic products. Use what works best for you and your gardening needs!
Great video! Speaker was very clear and provided comprehensive information. Best part was actually showing how to stimulate the roots, plant in the dirt and water, and mulch. So simple, but it was always a mystery until now. Thanks!
CF i don't know how to thank for all your work the thing is that the difference between you and other gardening channels is that you're so informative and other channels have lack of information and thank you
Best video on pepper issue.covering most details. It has neglected the treatment of its diseases, but I liked it.thank you very much . Greetings to your helpful child.
I see somebody asked a question on what brand (I searched it from the image that was shown in the video) Seaweed fertilizer - Grow More 6048 32 Oz Seaweed Extract 0.10-0.10-1.5
I love peppers. But they're so expensive in the stores. So I want to grow my own peppers. Thanks for the video. Your backyard container garden gives me inspiration that I can also have my own vegetables. Have a blessed day!
nice to see the organic breeds. could you advise the type of soil and other methods for me to try it is Saudi Arabia. quite hot weather here.. cheerz..
Just subscribed. Had sowed some green bell pepper seeds in a pot last month and forgotten about it and even moved the pot to a new location! Last week saw this new plant and remembered what I had done so now searching for some info. Found excellent info here so will keep checking back for more. Thanks!
aawww your son soo cute helping and for sure learning. my first chile peppers and poblano peppers are growing THANK YOU. I didn't know how much water they needed until now.
Gladys Fuentes Start the seeds in smaller plastic cups, keep them inside for roughly 2 weeks or until they have germinated/sprouted a good 2 inches, and then transplant them to a pot. If you live in the hotter states like AZ, CA, NV, NM, etc. etc. keep them in shade. Cooler states you can put them out in the sun. Water a little bit every day in hotter states, water normally every 2-3 days In Cooler states. Hope this helped!
Once the peppers have fruited, do I remove the plant completely through winter? Or can I just trim it down and will they re generate again next spring or summer? It’s my first pepper growing experience. Thank you
i just started watching you and you get right to the point with some of the best info I thank you sir for giving us your years of work so we don"t have to make bad things happen and we get good food right away bless you and your family
hello there , I love watching your programs on gardening ,I just started to grow few vegetable in my garden your tips and programs are very useful .love you and God bless you.
Nice video, though peppers don't need to be staked or caged like tomatoes or similar plants provided they're pruned correctly. If they're "topped" then the trunk will grow thick and sturdy, so no support is needed.
You can see the pepper plants staked when producing peppers in the harvest video just posted: Summer Harvest of 2014 - Beans, Peppers, Corn, Tomatoes & Zucchini
Thank you, my first year growing not so many peppers here in Australia, now I see why lol. I will try your techniques. Your videos are really quite informative and easy to follow and understand, very enjoyable to watch, thanks again.
I absolutely love peppers... they are my favorite vegetables by far. I enjoy regular bell peppers for their sweetness but the best ones in my opinion are the hot pepper variety. Jalapeno's are probably my personal favorite because they have a unique taste to them, but I love Cayenne and Thai peppers as well.
Ivan & Fritz Yes we love peppers too. Yes most of our pepper consumption is bell peppers but we have started liking poblano peppers too. Have you tried Poblanos? They have a great combination of heat and sweetness.
I want to know more about the peppers how they care of it ,i have also bell peppers it yeild 4 and big but stop bringing fruit maybe what fertilyser should i give them
Thank you! nice listening to you teach us. I love different peppers and do well with them but never grew them in Pots except Cayenne, and Dragon Cayenne Peppers, will try others now, Thank you!
One of the neatest trick Ive seen for peppers is after they grow for a while cut them down in half and they push out peppers like you would not believe I have done that and it is amazing.
thanks for the video. I just planted my yellow bell pepper a couple weeks ago. though I get seaweed, sea grass and pellet fish emulsion and put it in my compost, I'm going to try watering with it.
Hi California Gardening! I have two questions to ask you: 1) you mentioned to use tomatoe and vegetable fertilizer. You also mentioned to give the pepper plants Epsom salt every three weeks. And in the beginning you used fish and seeweed extracts. I wanted to know do I have to fertilize on one day with Epsom salt and a different day with vegetable fertilizer and also use the seeweed and fish fertilizer or exactly in what order do you continue the fertilizing process? And question 2) is it ok to plant in the dark or is it better to do the Planting when the plant get sun right away? I have good lighting and a toddler so when he goes to sleep I could plant the new peppers I bought unless it's not a good idea to plant at night for a reason. Thank you so much for all of your guidance!
+sahar saedi tehran Good question, yes, different days. (1) One week fish/seaweed, 2 weeks later epsom salt. The tomato/vegetable fertilizer is not needed if you are fertilizing with liquid fertilizer every 3 weeks. But I add it to the soil before planting to help slow nutrient release. If you have already planted it, spread around the base of the plant once every 3 months. Hope that helps! (2) Full sun, at least 6 hours every day for peppers. And yes always plant during the day! Your toddler can have fun watching how you plant it :)
Thank you!! One more: I went to my vegetable raised beds this morning to find some nocturnal animal had destroyed some of my plants and out holes in all the beds. Any advice on how to keep raccoons and possums away without using wiring? Thanks again!!
hi Marsha here I did one year that i had pepper rot did not know what to do for it i thought i waited too long to harvest them but now i know and will be able to fix before the problem arises Thanks
Thanks for the gardening video. I've grown peppers for several years from seed mainly serano and jalafuego. This year I'm growing C. Baccatium varieties from South America. I usually try not to disturb the tender roots of transplants but I would be tempted to remove the peat cups. Here is my time lapse okra (bhendi) garden video: ua-cam.com/video/CTMLhjDyTws/v-deo.html
Hi there, new subscriber here, I've saved my seeds from banana peppers, feel inspired by your videos. One of the best gardening channels as your video's are not only simple and easy to follow but also your voice feel's calm and peaceful to me. Thank you.
California Gardening Everything in this world seems so scary and so hard but as I watch your video's, I don't know? I feel hope...please keep posting. :)
+Angelique Amour just a quick tip from a longtime gardener... if you plant sweet peppers and hot peppers be sure to grow them on separate ends of the garden. If they are planted in the same spot they can cross and give you scorching hot bell peppers and banana peppers instead of sweet ones. Good luck on your garden!
Angelique Amour sounds good. I grow everything in a big vegetable garden here in Kentucky and also have all my herbs and grow fruit too like blackberries and strawberries. apples. peaches, watermelon and do other things too like home canning and making pickles and jams, and bake my own bread and cure hams and make cheese and sausages and wine and things! If you need any tips or need to ask about a sick plant or anything just let me know.
I really enjoy your videos. This one on peppers is very encouraging. It would be helpful to the novice gardener if you could add the best time to start growing the vegetables. On some you do but not all. Thank you. I enjoy watching your videos very much. They have helped me a lot.
Rosa McGuire Thank you, nice to know you find the videos helpful. Yes, I will try to put the planting times on all videos (I have been doing it on my newer videos after the feedback I got from helpful viewers like you!). So thank you for the feedback!
I really enjoy this film and have watched it a few times and finally have a question kind sir. I have a container garden with a couple of different pepper plants. One is a small sweet pepper (tangerine dream) and the others are bell pepper hybrids. The tangerine dream plants are starting to produce small peppers very vigorously. Where as my bell pepper hybrids are flowering, but won't pollinate correctly. The small stem breaks off the bush. Here are the specs: two bell peppers planted in two different containers- one with normal potting mix with added garden lime and mulch. The other has potting mix with extra peat moss for fun in addition to he mulch and lime. I live in zone 9 central Florida. Thank you if you have any ideas.
Eric Glass Thank, nice to know you liked the video! Regarding your problem, its difficult to say what the problem is but it could be the soil PH. Get a PH testing kit like this one: amzn.to/1Phs1vr and then measure your PH. If the PH is not between 6 and 7, make the soil more acidic by adding sulfur or more alkaline by adding garden lime. Good luck!
hi thanks for sharing this video. I Will try it to my little garden in Philippines when I'm going home....I enjoyed to watch it coz I have to learn. ..thank you. 😊
Yes you can! Dont be afraid to prune, however peppers and eggplants are naturally bushy plants (except some varieties like Poblano which grow very tall). So prune them to suit your space!
Thank you for sharing your growing tips. Can you tell me what you mix in the dirt to grow the peppers in? I’m very new and didn’t know much. Thank you.
thank you sir for speaking easy to understand English. Thank you for all the tips about peppers. You know how to do it! I'm getting blossom end rot and know I know what to do but I also have small holes in the peppers. Like one hole in each pepper. When I break the pepper it is a little brown inside but I don't see any bug. Is this a bird may pecking a hole. Many of my peppers have small holes in them but it is only one hole in each plant. Thank you for a wonderful video.
Billie Taylor Thank you, nice to know that you liked the video. Please see this video for Blossom End Rot control: ua-cam.com/video/YdfnhXJU9fM/v-deo.html
Our tomatoe and pepper plants just started to bloom. Should I use fish/seaweed fertilizer or tomato fertilizer to promote more blooms. Thank you for such great videos
I luv your videos they have simple easy instructions. I love to grow pepper plants, this is my second year growing them. Last year they came out ok just using miracle grow plant food nothing fancy. I’m actually growing them in the ground not in containers and my peppers plants are doing very well. I just planted them 3 weeks ago, I reside in Chicago and it’s getting hot now. I have a variety of pepper plants; green, red, purple and yellow. I also have habanero, hungarian wax & chili peppers. I give them all a epsom salt bath as you suggested biweekly. However; the leaves are starting to turn a little yellow. Is that part of the transitional process? I also use miracle grow plant food. Thank you so much for the great tips. .
+crumb9cheese Thank you! Nice to know you liked my little helper. he is getting to be a better gardener by the day :) yes the purple peppers are great! Do try it out!!
Bell peppers are the only variety on his list that I actually grow. Bell peppers , douglash, Carolina reapers, and dragon x are what I'm starting this spring
I love your videos. Always pick up a few good tips. I'm hoping you might be able to help me with a puzzling problem with my pepper plants. I grow my veggies in 4 ft x 4 ft raised beds. In my tomato/pepper bed, I have 4 types of tomatoes growing in the north row and directly in front of them in the next 4 rows I have 4 types of pepper plants. The tomatoes are thriving, producing a lot of fruit and they are now (late June) about 4 ft tall. However, the pepper plants are quite small and have produced very little fruit. I use a drip irrigation system so all plants receive the same amount of water (and there is no sign of lack or excess of watering. There is no sign of disease or insect damage. I have planted the same variety of peppers in pots that are doing quite well. I'm really stumped as to why these pepper plants are doing so poorly, especially since (in my experience) tomatoes and peppers are supposed to do well together, and have quite similar nutrient requirements. Do you have any ideas as to what might be causing this problem?
Captain Ron For the pepper plants, it could be a deficiency of some sort (usually iron of magnesium). Try adding Ironite (for Iron) and Epsom Salt Solution (for Magnesium) and see if that works!
great video mate, I had a good harvest last year, still some in the freezer. This year I am growing more varieties. Its good to see that you are involving your son in your gardening adventures, they need to learn all these good things from their childhood, mine is too little lol, thanks
WOW! Thank you, this is very useful and valuable information. I am confident now that I can grow better peppers, and other vegetables. I love your beautiful garden, I will strive to emulate everything.
Hi CG, I have spent much time watching your videos the past couple of days since deciding to try my hand at raised bed and container gardening. I especially loved this video on peppers. I've never had success with them in the past. I believe the birds eat the flowers before they even have a chance. My question is this: do all the peppers mature at the same time. It looked like you left the plant barren. What happens next? Thanks for your reply.
Thank you very much for sharing this videos on how to plant..care ..grow bell peppers rigjt now i am from the Phils watching your videos and i know your channel...am one of your viewers...
Great video, I've watched several times and have planted both sweet and hot, bells, Hungarian peppers in containers and have a question. There are several videos out that show a growing technique where you "top" or "prune" the pepper plant for a more bushy prolific plant. Have you used this technique and what were your results? Would you suggest this technique if growing pepper plants in containers? Also does the temperatures being over 90 degrees have effect on growing pepper plants?
Javandab Rhunt Thank you. I do not think that pruning a pepper plant makes any difference at all. Peppers naturally exhibit bushy growth and even if you do not pinch the tops, you should be fine. I have several pepper plants and they are as prolific and bushy as any other plant. Temperatures do affect pepper production but the problem is going lower. At 90s you should be getting great peppers (and eggplants), but not tomatoes as tomatoes will drop blossoms at high temps. There are some tomatoes bred for high temps like Juliet (amazing!) and Solar Fire. Hope that helps!
BrideOfRocK nRoLL Yes its possible. To prove it there's one thing you can do...try planting a heat resistant variety - Try Juliet hybrid tomato if you can (you can get seeds in garden stores - Lowes/Home Depot) as well as seedlings. Let us know your results. Good luck!
I love watching your videos. They are very informative from beginning to end. Also love when you throw in a recipe! Thank you for your time and sharing your information.
Thanks for your videos. I have watched several of yours and they are great. I enjoy seeing the process from beginning to end. Your plants look wonderful.

It might survive the winters but not always, depending on how cold it gets in your area.
whats a molch or moultch? the thing with the leaves?
Yes any cover around the base of the plant. It can be leaves, compost etc.
Mulch in this case is the leaves...anything goes e.g. straw etc

Peppers will be limited by the size of container, use a big one
thanks for the video. I just planted my yellow bell pepper a couple weeks ago. though I get seaweed, sea grass and pellet fish emulsion and put it in my compost, I'm going to try watering with it.
The poblano chile is NOT pasilla. Different chiles, often confused, don't know why.
Correct. Pasilla is dried Chilaca pepper. And Ancho is dried Poblano pepper.
Hi California Gardening! I have two questions to ask you:
1) you mentioned to use tomatoe and vegetable fertilizer.
Thanks again!!
please you grow banna in container
hi Marsha here I did one year that i had pepper rot did not know what to do for it i thought i waited too long to harvest them but now i know and will be able to fix before the problem arises Thanks
Use rain water Not Tap water.
Thank you, your tips were very helpful. This is my first year growing peppers in containers. It will save on my plants and my sanity. (:
Gonna grow Carolina reaper peppers :D
Dafny Garcia Nice to know, let us know how it goes! Never tried growing Carolina Reapers myself, will have to try it out!
Dafny Garcia you can't grow those peppers you must cross 2 peppers
yes you can, i currently have 6 growing plants and 30 seeds that just sprouted.

Thank you.
+Angelique Amour Thank you for the feedback! Nice to know you like my videos as well as my voice :) Happy Gardening!
Good luck on your garden!
darkangelsoaps hey thanks for the tip. I'm using cow manure and organic potting mix specifically for veg. and herb garden to raise seedlings.
Angelique Amour
sounds good.
Good luck!
+California Gardening Thank you! I'll give that a try and in a future film for peppers would you go over pollination tips? Thank you again!!
What a wonderfully helpful, detailed video!! I will certainly try a variety of peppers.
i love your accent and the way you speak, its very soothing and almost triggers my asmr, and of course great info brother, keep it up
Thanks for your feedback and glad you like my voice and the videos :)
hi thanks for sharing this video. I Will try it to my little garden in Philippines when I'm going home....I enjoyed to watch it coz I have to learn. ..thank you. 😊
That a very useful video. Can we top and prune bell pepper plants like other pepper plants to get bushier growth? Does it work?
Yes you can! Dont be afraid to prune, however peppers and eggplants are naturally bushy plants (except some varieties like Poblano which grow very tall). So prune them to suit your space!
Remove larger leaves to allow more sun to smaller ones.
Thank you for sharing your growing tips. Can you tell me what you mix in the dirt to grow the peppers in? I’m very new and didn’t know much. Thank you.
love your videos. i have never grown a garden so this is my first year. wish me luck. thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
thank you sir for speaking easy to understand English.
I feel this video of urs s apt and simple but briefly explained hw peper s grown.....
Thank you so much for the great tips. .
Loce the look of the purple one. Never heard of it. Great little helper you got
Good to know!
Great information,.... I live in Kentucky. I hope it works here also ..... thank you my friend.
thank you for showing your video I will try them this year see how they grow thank you again
+Dee Diana Marie Abbott Nice to know you liked the video. Good luck growing it! Happy Gardening!
WOW! Thank you, this is very useful and valuable information. I am confident now that I can grow better peppers, and other vegetables. I love your beautiful garden, I will strive to emulate everything.
Thanks for watching and glad that you liked the video!
Thank you for all you helpful tips I love gardening please can you give us you garden tour.
LOVE all your videos!! I'm learning so much! TY!!
+Sheri Karanasos Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated. Nice to know you like the videos as well as the recipes!
