  • @myohmydoyouwannasaygoodbye
    @myohmydoyouwannasaygoodbye 11 років тому

    I think they did use PWM (and they probably used it out-of-logic-control; it had just sounded ok so they utlized it) + heavy low-pass filter put on simple sound-and-silence ADSR sound.
    I appreciate your work and I think your Juno-60 sound is just fabulous. :)
    But I want to dig more into "The Night" bassline, which seems to be easy to fake, but is in real life hard to imitate. :)

  • @weelephantsnow910
    @weelephantsnow910 6 років тому

    I thought they only used the Linndrum for claps on early Valerie Dore music. Wasn't the main drum sound a Simmons kit? BTW love the orchestrator. Wish I could find one that worked.

    • @SynthManiaDotCom
      @SynthManiaDotCom  6 років тому

      This is Valerie Dore style - style only, I wasn't going with the goal to replicate all the instruments exactly here (although I do have all those machines too), but just get to the feel and vibe. As per my previous comment to someone who asked a similar question, "this demo wasn't meant to be a perfect replica, but just inspired by Valerie Dore's sound I grew up with. When I'll have time, I'll do a better cover including more similar sounds."

    • @weelephantsnow910
      @weelephantsnow910 6 років тому

      I hear you. You definitely indeed got the early valerie dore vibe nailed down. Your performance here sounded like "the night" and "get closer" hybridized together.

    Is the SH101 the best for different italo basses ?

    • @SynthManiaDotCom
      @SynthManiaDotCom  9 років тому +4

      +sniff28 Well, best is relative to taste, but the SH-101 is certainly versatile for bass sounds. However, there are many synths that are also great for bass, a few examples, Minimoog, Pro One, Odyssey, OB-1, the Junos, etc. etc.

    • @325iaddict
      @325iaddict 6 років тому +1

      As Paolo says, I can confirm the Juno-60 is AWESOME for Italo bass! Just listen to the octave bass he plays in his song "siluripedio". He somehow managed to upload that song in an amazing quality: the actual bass played directly from the synth is not much different!

    Thank you and yes, this demo wasn't meant to be a perfect replica, but just inspired by Valerie Dore's sound I grew up with. When I'll have time, I'll do a better cover including more similar sounds. Btw, if you're referring to "The Night"'s bass line, I'm not sure PWM is involved, rather, judging by the sound I think oscillator unison might have been used in the bass - but I'd need to listen to it closely with headphones to get a better idea - I'm just listening to a UA-cam video of that song

  • @myohmydoyouwannasaygoodbye

    This is really nice, but Valerie Dore's (early) bassline had a feature: it was a pulse-based sound and was changing the pulse width during time. So the bassline was getting from narrow pulse width to more width one on every 1/8 tact bit.

    Well...with its internal ensemble effect the Polysix can sound very similar to a string machine. But all that I could find on the internet was a comment on gearslutz from a Polysix user who only thinks (!) that the V.D. sound was probably made with a Polysix (at least he was "pretty sure"). The Orchestrator sounds so spot-on here that only a direct A/B comparison might bring us closer to the answer...so let's GET CLOSER! *lol*

  • @sauermusicDE
    @sauermusicDE 13 років тому

    I'm wondering if other Crumar string machines (like for example the Crumar Trilogy) can do the same layer of cellos and violins as well...ideally resulting in the same "Valerie Dore"-like sound of course. Does anyone know?
