    So you're telling me that every Sci-Fi TV Show and Movie that has ever been was lying to me when the laser blasts were reflected by mirrors? Hmm.

      I guess unless you got polished metal mirror (as mentioned in the end)

      The disclaimer should have been in the beginning of the video, where he talked about if people knew about engraving on the front on the mirror.

      @@davis4010 first surface mirrors, like the ones that are used in optical systems such as... our lasers :)
      In this video it's the glass that gets engraved - it's infrared, glass is opaque to 10 um infrared (CO2).

    This was very cool to see! Can you laser cut into the Mirror? We want to cut the logo into the mirror so we can place LED light behind the mirror and light up the logo while keeping the mirror all one piece - is that possible?

    • @TrotecLaser
      @TrotecLaser  Місяць тому

      It can only remove the mirror coating from a glass mirror so the light can come through; a C02 laser cannot cut glass. If the mirror is made from acrylic, it can cut that kind of mirror.

    when you spray painted the back side, what was the purpose of masking the front? wasnt like the paint was going to go thru or anything.

    • @TrotecLaser
      @TrotecLaser  20 днів тому

      Masking is recommended to protect the mirror from any excess spray paint and the mirror surface from possible scratches during this process.

    What would happen if you did engrave a first or front surface mirror? Would it immediately wreck the laser?

    • @davidstevens2577
      @davidstevens2577 Рік тому

      The laser beam would reflect the beam back into itself, causing no reaction. However, if there were even a slight angle on the mirror, it could direct the laser beam into the laser machine causing possible machine damage.

  • @robwilbanks25
    @robwilbanks25 Рік тому +1

    would the same principle apply to 1st surface mirrors? or does a first surface mirror count as a polished metal?

    • @TrotecLaser
      @TrotecLaser  Рік тому +1

      Hi Rob! First-surface mirrors will reflect the laser beam, possibly causing damage to the machine. Just like polished metal mirrors; we would not recommend this.

    what's the name of the film you use to mask the mirror face?

  • @ghjytffjkk
    @ghjytffjkk 7 місяців тому

    to be clear when you lasered the backside, you removed all of the coding and the glass was completely transparent??? or did etching the back reflective coating off alter the glass

    • @TrotecLaser
      @TrotecLaser  7 місяців тому

      Removing the back "mirrored coating" with the laser will vaporize the reflective layer, allowing the light to pass through.

    did you remove the protective film from the reflective side before turn it to face down and what's the work of the white stuff on the laser bed?

    • @TrotecLaser
      @TrotecLaser  2 роки тому +1

      Traditional glass mirror has no protective film on either side, so there is nothing to remove. If the brand of mirror has a protective film when purchased, it would need to be removed before laser processing. The "white residue" is the residue produced from the laser from the engraving process, and it is wiped clean with any paper towel or cloth; we used a microfiber cloth in the video.

      @@TrotecLaser There are front surface mirrors for things like kaleidoscopes in which it is very important that you never touch the front surface of the mirror. I would guess the interest is from someone who wants to make kaleidoscopes e.g. by removing the coating to make it selectively see through in areas.

      Hello, thank you for your comment. Our lasers are capable of etching onto glass, but not capable of cutting through it.

      Use the preset Glass or acrylic setting in your materials database, depending on what the mirror is made from.

      Natural stone will engrave white, so a white stone would produce no contrast; it will work but not look good.
