  • I have my old DIY NAV panel replaced by an OpenCockpits and a CP Flight module. So why not make a video what I compare the two plug’n’ play units

Hi Peter, Just a mention. I have programmed a single Arduino Mega2560 to control all seven radio modules with yellow TM1637 displays or red Max7216s. It uses two 16-1 De-Multiplexors cards to allow all single, switched encoders to appear as a single dual encoder to the mega. An imperceptable press on the encoder knob cause a specific radio module to become active and then a further press switches between inner and outer shaft mode. It all works perfectly. Regards NobbyH

Great video Peter, I agree totally with the colour difference of panels. It's just as noticeable in the actual aircraft. And with regards to backlighting, I'd nearly say the opencockpits version is more authentic in that regard. Rarely is it even in the real aircraft, especially on the older ng's with older backlighting bulbs that blow and leave darker patches everywhere

I run OC Nav VHF and ATC panels. I have used black card to keep light spill to a minimum.
I run the Zibo in X-Plane 11 & 12. I use a simple script from Pitikanga which run the units perfectly. You just need to identify in the script which is Captain and which is FO. Works brilliantly.

many years ago , you buy from cpflight a interface card the name was Black Box , and you connect the radio or other cards from cpflight directly to this card . You don't need a mcp . But that card is not for sale anymore.

      You are absolutely right.
There was also a USB version of the Pedestal backlight panel that could be used with out the MCP.
I actually went down that road when recording the video. But it ended up being complex to explain and just took up too much time.

I am using CPflight MCP with MSFS which is required fsuipc7 to run them. My issue is delayed display the number on MSFS. It is little bit slow.
