This is the single coolest opener for a live show ever. The lights dimming and the anticipation setting in, then that weird repeating sound at the start signaling the beginning of the concert, followed by each member of the band joining in the song one by one, greeted by massive cheers from the crowd each time. Plus the huge climaxes in the choruses (and the fact that it’s just a really, really excellent song, and it’s just perfect
yeah seen them play this twice. It's epic.
I'm not on drugs but I feel like I am, which has contributed to the bizarre commentary throughout this video (and most of my videos for the past few months). Shout-out to the Army for sitting through this. Much respect.
😎
This was the first single from the album and it took many, many listens and some time to really get into it. And now I think Fear Inoculum is their best album.
I listen to this album every day at the office. xD
I fucking love how Maynard tackles lyrics like Björk does. Neither gives a shit about rhyme or fitting their lyrics into any standard form. They just hammer whatever they want to say right into the song. But not like a blacksmith. Like a goldsmith.
Excellent point. Agreed
After digesting it for the last couple years it was completely worth the wait. But only when you take into account their entire discography. It fits as the next chapter and progression for them. On its own I don’t know how much it would stack up.
The evolution between Lateralus and 10,000 days hit me the same as 10,000 days to Fear Inoculum. It took a few listens to fully appreciate how good it really is lyrically and sonically 🤘
Same. And each time I was initially let down on first listen only to fall in love with every song before long.
Plenty of cool stuff from this - for one it came out right B4 Covid, like they predicted it. If you fold the Tool logo from this album in half you get a hyperdermic needle. They've been opening with this song on tour since it came out which works great. And finally one of those great little touches Tool adds - at exactly the midpoint of this song Maynard sings 'mitosis' - awesome.
I feel like this album is more of an Adam showcase than a Danny one. Great reaction, as always.
I waited 13 years for this album and for me it did not disappoint. However I would really love another album from them where their music is a little more raw
This single came out a couple of weeks before the album. I listened to it on repeat most of my workday every day, plus on my spare time too. just could NOT get enough of it. No exaggeration, hundreds of times - I guess it was a decade of being overdue for new Tool.
I think that’s the most I’ve seen you laugh (also the hardest) and that was really funny. Happy Lauren is good. :)
Haven't you reacted to or listened to Invincible yet? Or Culling Voices? If not, pleeeeeeeeeeeease do. They are my two favourite songs from the album. Culling Voices is a Maynard vocal masterpiece and a great slow building song. Think you'd appreciate it!
We waited so long for this album. What a great song
hahahah love the exercise comment! You have Maynard's mind!
Pausing in the middle is the way. One of the reason I like your reactions.
parabol parabola is pretty spiritual!! and lateralus. also.. they are rage and spirituality embodied!!
I was moments away from commenting on the exorcise/exercise issue. Nice save!
It’s been a bit since you did Katatonia, and I’d love to see your reaction to Leaders on The Great Cold Distance. Great TOOL reaction, Fear Inoculum is kinda underrated.
Well worth the wait. You don't see Tool for their singing and lyrics, you are there for the instrumental show..🤔
Appreciate the review! I get the comparison of the Beatles progression. There is no space on Fear Inocculum for HWAP or Ticks & Leeches. Lyrically or sonically. Or Culling Voices on Undertow.
I also hoped for more Angry Maynard on FI.
ahahahahh thats funiest reaction from you for a long time!😅😅😅
It was fun. 😎
I look forward to the day when I’m listening Tool on the oldies station.
It took a while to grow on me. Eventually I looked at it as the next step in their evolution. So I don’t compare it (as little as possible) to their old music. Just as the next step. Pneuma was the first song that grabbed me but Descending is the one that absolutely hooked me. I still don’t listen to it all very often but I get it more now. And yes, I feel like Danny was the driving force behind this album. It looks like he lights up while he’s drumming. He plays little jazz clubs and things like that. I really think making music is his happy place.
Sooooo worth the 13 year wait!!! Pneuma now my 2nd fav Tool song :)
My favourite album is 10,000 Days followed by Lateralus. This album is great though, and I love every one of the long songs on it. Did probably not stop and have a snack midway through the first listening of this song, though. Cannot wait until summer and Tons of Rock in Oslo, Opeth and Tool live on the same day!
The sound recurrs in Descending 😊
Tempest long and angry zips by Adam crazy
Those filtered, slightly distorted claps also appear in Descending ;-)
Excercise….. oh, you just explained yourself, thank you.
To me this album seems like the 3 musicians exploring this landscape of how many sounds and vibes they can create and arrange in undeniably masterful ways with Maynard tossing in some good but rather scant lyrics to remind us he’s still part of Tool, I always get this mental impression of him saying yeah guys, I’ve got a lot of other stuff going on, here’s what I came up with. But then I think you had 13 years dude just like they did to make lyrics! Some of the songs I can see how the ratio of lyrics and theme to that song makes sense but in others I feel like why did he even bother on this one?! Yet for all that I still really like this album because at 61 myself now I have days when I really love just immersing myself in the superb craftsmanship of their music and relaxing into a meditative state: the length of the songs is great for that vibe.
"7empest" is All Adam!!
Ping-pong drumming. Chef's kiss.
Pneuma and 7empest were worth the wait, the other songs are just pretty good. But I won't complain, i just hope they do another one before they retire.
please do tesseract concealing fate!! tool fans love tesseract,, and you will love it.. it's difficult to recommend one song from them, they have heavy ones and soft ones and all are awesome!!
Morning exorcise is essential to a good day. I kinda want to see that animation now. It sounds like it would be hilarious.
I think most long time Tool fans were happy with it, especially after such a long wait. Many were just glad to get anything new. This was the first single and I imagined radio stations excited to get a new song to play, only to find out it's 10+ min long. Oh, and by the way that's also just barely longer than the shortest song on the album, lol.
I close my eyes and listen in the dark
This whole reaction was kinda frikkin adorable
If you start at the beginning and progress to the end. Maturity of 30 yrs. Your view on life changes. 30 yrs listening to Tool, 3 concerts and 60+ yrs old the lyrics and music by Tool are amazingly interesting
“Welcome to the cult, we don’t really know what’s going on here, but just chant” lol….
Hahahaha the intermission gif.
I could go either way on the album. Parts I enjoy and parts I can do without.
As a present day 43 year old, I can say... every tool album, as it came out, was an enigma. Youre never ready, until you are. I finally learned when 10,000 days came out in '06. I didnt buy it for at least a year... i just knew i wasn't quite ready yet. But when i was...😂
IMHO this song is about ridding oneself of groupthink
A tribe of people... 👍🏻😎🤪🤣💯
☺️
Time for Wings For Marie and 10,000 Days!
Embracing Maynard’s love of word dualities with exercise/exorcise.
The duality is probably intentional. Maynard does this all of the time. It’s a thing for him.
Yes, I miss angry Maynard also, and floating Tool is a masterpiece, but man I would love more power stuff like The Grudge in it... Vocally Maynard is not satisfying in Fear Inoculum as previous albums, for me of course. There, I said it. I know people are evolving and maturing and if I make music all my life I couldn't make same music with same emotions all the time. Maybe I'll appreciate more this last album when I evolve and mature as I grow old..
what does he have to scream about? He's 60 years old and rich.
Nerd fact: Maynard sings 'my own mitosis' right at the middle of the track (mitosis being process where cell is being divided in two) :))
This kind of detail is why it takes 13 years to put out an album 😂
Yes we are a cult
the spiritual mumbo jumbo has been part of the band since the early days. lateralus, third eye, 46 & 2, ...
Patient pants are fine :).
What's your intro music called?
This was the first single off the album lol. It got hate at first for sure but it grew on the fans
Another band to check out is Karnivool
I really love "Fear Inoculum" as an album. The problem for me was the first expectations, it would never fullfill. I first listened to it in one sitting and was not sooo impressed. I picked some songs here and there, with time it really grew on me. I was like "....Wow....that is fucking amazing!" I picked on the details and the meaning of the songs, the story they tell. The songs are even for TOOL harder to digest, longer, incredible song structure.
I was delusioned to want only them to make another "10.000 days", because it was my favorite record, but TOOL moved on. They are older and you really can feel the change in every album. Look on the whole discography.
The first albums are very energetic, young, angry, unpolished. With Lateralus they created the "newer" TOOL sound, more focused on arrangement but still energetic. "10.000" was like the essence for me. All was polished, the style was allready what TOOL is, all in their spotlight. "Fear Inoculum" is the older TOOL, wise and insightful of age. They are peaceful, no angry takes, knowing of their struggles with age, telling us stories of their journal. Focused the most on arrangement of all albums. Well and Dany Carrey is on another galaxy in that album, im impressed he keeps on diging deeper on his abilities with every album.
It's been a while this opening track is amazing .. No i loved this album from day one and majority of the fans did.. It's how they evolved just after so many years i feel like there is 1 missing step in-between 10k days and this . With songs like Descending, Invincible, Pneuma , And 7empest for the fans to love and FI and Culling Voices are more of growers imo but i've prob listened to this album from front to back a thousand times ..
Ok, so THIS is creeping me out; I'm at the park while watching your video. Random dude walks over to the jungle-gym and hangs from a beam for literally a minute. He walks back to his car and just as you talk about Maynard, I see his plate "MJK389"
Wish you would check out the band Porcupine Tree. Their singer produces the newer Opeth albums
Well worth the 13 years.....and of course it's different, they too are different, 13 years of different.....30 year fan here, Love this album, Love this band...Cool little TooL thing in this song as well.......Maynard says the word "Mitosis" (the act of splitting a cell in two or half) Well Maynard lands it on the exact half way point of the song....not an accident
This album didn't change my life in the same way Aenima did, but that's just a result of the timing of my life. The album though, is becoming my favorite.
Still 1000% my favorite reactor. Honestly I mostly just watch you. Anyway, this is possibly silly but have you checked out Ren? He’s not metal I know, he’s a lot of things. Anyway, even if you don’t want to react to him I think you might really enjoy the song “Hi Ren” and possibly a lot he does. I would enjoy watching what you think but either way maybe check it out if you can. It’s pretty powerful for a lot of people.
I think you would change your opinion of floaty Tool if you saw them live
30 years of growth and maturity from magician apprentice to wizards of sonics and lyrics. This album is an absolute masterpiece. Even more phenomenal watching them perform this live!!!
It’s a massive shift, but, to me, it was over such a long period of time that it was not jarring.
i only say: buy some weed, a nice drink, sit in a dark room with a good surround system and you will think, you are flying...^^
Could this song be about fake news or social media?
0:00 i had one 👽
Any tool is worth the wait, just saw them in montreal .. only thing close is pink floyd and rush
So my experience from the beginning has been that every new Tool album has had to marinate and grow on me. Before we had lyrics readily available on the internet, it could take a year or 2 just to hopefully and finally catch all the lyrics from the last album and absorb all of the musical intricacies. Then once I had fully adopted the current album, the next evolution of Tool would drop. I feel like I always started with a bias but then inevitably fell in love with the new stuff. Fear Inoculum was very much the same. And with the average length of the tracks, it took longer to absorb because it literally took longer to listen to each track multiple times. Great album nonetheless, in my opinion.
It was worth it for me. This is a extremely well done album.
Have you published Bottom?
Oh, you have! Next question, have I watched it? If not, I missed it.
Go land crabs✊️
You are awesome 😎

Mourning exorcise
Please see this comment, there is a band I think you should react to, they are a French nu metal band that goes by the name “Eths”, and you should react to the song “le projet humain” by them, they are a great band with an amazing vocalist but they deserve more recognition
I’m a big undertow fan but this album was way worth the wait Invincible is now my favorite song you can’t compare the Beatles to Tool, Tool is way better.
I think the song is about Fox News.
there's a version of "Bottom" with Maynard doing the spoken word part at JC Dobbs show. not reccomending for reaction though
I perform all of my exorcisms in the morning..... I love the instrumentals on this album.. Maynards contributions on this album were "ok" with a few very good highlights
Your intros may be long, but they are not repetitive. That’s the key. A short intro is good. A long intro without repetition is better. A long intro where you say 90% the same thing is bad. You don’t do that.
For me this album mostly just sounded like Tool covering Tool, if you get what i mean. First time I barely liked half a Tool album.
Yessss
I don't assume you'll love this song. The floatiest of floaty tool.
You do know the difference between exorcise and exercise don’t you…? 😂
Maybe you are the first one who took a break in the middle for a snack, but many of us fell asleep at that point xD
😂😂😂
Best part is Adams little solo at the end.
I'm still waiting for T00L to come out with their Christmas songs album. Lauren come on! T00L is the greatest band Everrrrrrrr.... lol
Excluding the filler tracks, this is my least favorite “Fear Inoculum” song. I still give it a 7.
The lyrics are incorrect...
"Division", not delusion. So many terrible tool lyric interpretations. I have the CD, and this is the first tool album with lyrics in the sleeve
My initial reaction to this album was underwhelm. But once you've heard each track a few hundred times, the subtleties make the heavier parts REALLY heavy. The guys are in their 50s and 60s, they deserve a more poignant album. It's their last one under the thumb.
Find it strange that this album came out right as Covid did...fear inoculum???? Think about it.
This isn't even the 3rd best song on the album
They got old. It happens (except when it doesn’t).
……stop taking gummies 🙏🏻 why react to an album you don’t like and be condescending about it
Love Tool. Hate the newest album.
Love Tool. Was a bit ummmm maybe about the Album. But as of today with many listens, it's great.
Totally on board with you on that one
ya'll are nuts
Youre missing the whole point.
This is literally the worst song on the whole Album and is still better than any other band.
😂
I would say its the 2nd best. My top 3 are invincible, f.o. and pnuema
All their albums havr different feelings. This is their last album, maynard is approaching 60 years old.. he's not belting out 26 second screams anymore like in the grudge in 2003
