    I'm doing photography but I end up styling the models cause I'm using free lance girls and they can't dress at all, the clothes make a BIG IMPACT with how my pictures end up looking, do not doubt styling people. I'm thinking about going into styling now, the whole industry is just amazing to me.

    Thank you so much for this. I've been doing freelance styling for over 2 years now. I had a few bad shoots (model taking over my job, not happy at all with the final pictures,...) and I went from taking a small break to not working at all, personal life took over like crazy but now I'm trying to get back on my feet and I'm taking a different direction. It really makes me so happy to hear someone who's not afraid to share their information with the world (I'm from Antwerp where a lot of stylists will never tell you the trics on how to do it or who to talk to) so really , thank you, sending lots of love xoxoxo

      Sandra Kazadi OMG! We have the same story only thing is I have been apart of so many shoots to never have received photos! Then life happened and I started doubting myself 😢 and on top of that it just felt like every time I would put material out there, material that I thought was beautiful nobody for real liked it and didn't receive a lot of likes HOWEVER, during my life happen moment I learned so much within myself. I grew mentally and spiritually (sounds stupid) but it really gave me motivation and the confidence to know I AM A FASHION STYLIST and most importantly IM FABULOUS and I GOT THIS! NEVER GIVE UP OR GIVE IN! If you love what you do, it really shows inside and outside of your work! Thank you so much Erica! Keep it coming because, we're totally paying attention !

      I agree hun! still till today, when I put out any of my creative/work content I never get the same engagement a selfie does.. but that the era that we are in now! But never let that affect the way you feel about your craft! I would say keep going and pushing hard. It honestly isn't easy, but it is worth it! xxxo

    Hi Erica. I totally love your channel. I feel like you are my virtual mentor. Thanks for being so generous with your knowledge. I am from South africa and i am working on being a fashion and personal stylist. I have started a blog,sourcing clients,revamped my social media but i do not have money to kick start the business. I also work a corporate job to pay the bills at the moment so I don't have the time right now to intern on a full time basis. Please give me advice.

      Hi Kathleen, Thanks so much for your kind words! It is always appreciated! I guess to transition from your full time job to your 'dream job' you have to work in your spare time. use weekends and book holidays to heave period of time off.
      I was able to quite my job and take the leap because at that time I had some financial support from my mum... it's not going to be the same story for everyone. Think over what you need to 'kick start' your business. in my opinion all you need is a case and a kit (which i sell) these two are the main tools every stylist needs. I think a lot of people overthink the logo, website, branding etc. I didn't do any of that stuff until maybe a year or two into styling. start where you are and with what you have hun and everything else will move in alignment with it. I hope this has helped? xxxo

    Hi Erica I just discovered your channel and watched a lot of your videos today. I wanted to ask if you think that a styling course/formation is necessary to get the knowledge, get internships to eventually begin as a fashion stylist? I am currently working to save money to later pay for a fashion school that has a course in editorial and personal styling in order for me to become a fashion stylist, but after watching a lot of your (and other stylists' videos) I start to think that maybe it's not necessary to "waste" the money in a course but that I should instead keep the money to support my own fashion styling business. Because from what I've heard you don't need to know about fashion and styling to get a job as an stylist assistant. So if I go by the plan of finding a job as a stylist assistant and once I get enough knowledge from watching the stylist I'm assisting, I start my own business, do you think it would work? Or that it is necessary for me to go to a fashion school in order to achieve that goal? I hope you reply and thank you for your amazing videos!

      Hi Nissy! I am so happy you have found my channel!! My first piece of advice is invest in yourself and take some time out and watch my channel - this definitely is a common question and I have covered it in my Q&A and a few of my videos!
      I think education is important but I think with how fast technology is getting and channels like mine emerging, you can learn the basics of fashion styling online very easily! On the other hand something like personal styling is a lot more detailed so this will require some studying or a course (in my opinion) so definitely focus on where you want you career to go! I think once you assist and get a grip on the job and feel confident you know what to do... then you build your platform/portfolio and start getting your own clients - then you are ready to roll! I decided to go London college of fashion because I'm just one of those girls who love to know the basics of things that i get myself into..so getting on courseds etc. are something i like to do. But I do wish i had access to a channel like mine who I was starting out!!! I hope this has answered your question and again... watch ALL the videos on my channel!! its's worth it!! xxxo

    Can you do a video explaining how you actually make money as stylist and how to get money for the whole project. I don't know if it comes out of pocket or not

    • @EricaMatthews
      @EricaMatthews  7 років тому

      Hi lovely, the money comes out of my clients pocket, this is the brand or the magazine. but quite often when I work with a creative team we all tend to do it on a test/TFCD basis where we all work for free. I have a few videos I am trying to film between work and planning things for you guys, but finances is one of them xxxo

    Hi I read your bio sorry that you were sick and hope that UA-cam will make your expectation. I am just flabbergasted since most of the stylist are really. Very classy with impeccable taste. Well I am even surprised how you can zipp a dress with those clowns which basicly shows lack of taste .i guess as you said anyone can call themselves stylist .
