I like the use of the screen to dry grains! Sometimes my motivation to make bulk spawn is low because evaporating the surface moisture from the grain uses every baking sheet in my kitchen and achieving uniform surface moisture becomes a time and space consuming process. I went to my local hardware store and bought a small window screen for ~$11 US. I think its a good alternative if folks dont have the tools to build their own screen and it saved a lot of time

This is exactly what drew me into Mr. Myco and his Methodology. Aside from the final product, his advice based on true lived experience will get any aspiring mycologist into the blue. Yeah, he got dialect. Yeah, he got home brew. But guess what? After years of being himself on teh interwebz, WE get to cultivate cubensis! Give Willy his due. He certainly has given it to us. Mush Hugs, Willy!

Kudos! I also adopted his screen tek for a couple months. Lately I've been getting black specks(contam) in my bags while colonization. I was wondering if it's because of hulls and old grains stuck in the screen crevices from previous dries. Have you had this problem?

I just made 400 kilos do it every week, You should take them when the grains just start to split. These are a little raw still need a little more cooking. Gypsum is for shiitake you may get better results from using 50% gypsum and 50% calcium carbonate, you may get even better results using just calcium carbonate and no gypsum. You need to try a little with all your strains, for example, Pleurotus hates gypsum, etc.

hey what was the room temp when you where drying your grains? if your in the P.N.W. and especially if your above sea-level they will dry at completely different rates, but really if you include your preferred room temp that could drastically help some that may not know better.

Theres several ways. Moisture in the grain is key too.. my 1st time i had cracked corn in my wild bird seed, makes a starchy clump... luckily it still worked. Not ideal tho. Ive done brf vermiculite. Wbd bird seed. Never rye yet. Looking forwarrd to it. You can use pop corn and more too.

Its really and truly a learn as you go kind of thing. The best "tips and insider tricks" come from personal trial and error, my first time ever growing mushrooms not knowing anything i harvested 4 ounces dry from two flushes of purple mystics. If I had known to soak the block I could have got way more and for me personally pinning conditions were very confusing but after one grow i know exactly how to create a sick ass pinset and what cause pins to form. Get out there and do it, if your even slightly intelligent it will come so fast.
