Warmoth Performer Jazzmaster Build | DIY Guitars

- My second Jazzmaster Build! After my first build, I had some ideas for a simpler design, a new color scheme, and some minor tweaks to the hardware and electronics. This culminated in what I am dubbing my Warmoth Performer Jazzmaster. Now equipped with a strat tremolo and bridge, and some adjusments to the pots values, I think I have nailed my ideal Jazzmaster. A Pougnet Pedal Custom Shop! Enjoy!
Specs are as follows:
Body: Warmoth Standard Jazzmaster (Swamp Ash - Daphne Blue)
Neck: Fender Player Series Jazzmaster (Maple with Pau Ferro Fretboard)
Tuners: Fender Locking Tuners
Vibrato/Tremolo: Fender Player Series 2-Point Stratocaster Tremolo
Pickguard: 3-ply custom order Warmoth in White/Black/White
Pickups: Fender 65 Jazzmaster Pair
Also: Kluson Rolling String Tree, CTS pots, etc

Thanks. Actually the saddle position was fine. The issue was with the nut height which I fixed shortly after the video. Thanks for the advice though
Pougnet Pedals yeah I think the nut is the forgotten secret of guitar setups you’re on the road to becoming quite the luthier
Nice build and demo, I've been tempted on doing the same thing since I played a G&L Doheny. I loved my old 90s Japanese Jazzmaster but it was a pain in the ass because of the tremolo and bridge. You had to have the neck angle with a slight backbow or else you would get strings popping out of the bridge saddles and/or rattling and tuning issues. Even with a shim after a few string changes I would be fiddling with trus rod adjustments and/or raising the bridge and then adjusting intonation. I loved the sound but hated the maintenance. A Strat style trem would fix that but I can tell that the string tension isnt quite there on yours but it still nails the chimey jangley brightness that only a Jazzmaster has. Perhaps if I strung it with 11's
Yeah, I tried a bigsby, and am not against the jazz trem, but I like the strat trem the most

They came off an American Special Jazzmaster pickguard. You can find them on eyguitarmusic though.

How are the pickups adjusted? Are they screwed in the body?
Yes they are screwed into the body; however there is a foam riser placed underneath the pickup to allow for height adjustment
I need one Jazzmaster guitar with Swamp ash body, "Big Leaf" Maple neck and Jacarandá rosewood or Pau Ferro fretboard. This is a perfect example from guitar parts combination... But I know it would be very expensive, but it does not cost to dream! #JAZZMASTERGUITARSRULES

the g string of the bass playing in the backing track during the build is either out of tune or not intonated, and yeah, guitar looks stunning of course but man give it that well deserved intonation pleeaase
yeah, it was actually the nut if I remember correctly. needed to be taken down a bit.
Did you drill any pilot holes for the pickup screws? Also, did you put any foam under the pickups?
yes. used a small hand drill for the pilot holes. and yes I put foam under the pickups. Initially i just used weather stripping, but now use some spring loaded foam from stew mac.

@@royalblue2229 I just eyeballed it. Its not hard, get your neck on first, then use the pocket cutout as your guide.
You think some 250K pots might darken it some?
It should. I am going to play around with the wiring in a future video. I have some ideas
@@pougnetpedals I noticed that 300K or 350K are options too. You don't need to go straight low resistance if you don't want. Looking forward to your changes!

What did that cost all in all mate complete???
Cant remember the exact cost, but it landed somewhere between a mim player series and a mim deluxe at the time. Off the top of my head that's ~800-900CAN

My philosophy these days is to build the guitars I wish were made. I’ve got a Strat coming to me that’s getting Les Paul’d so to speak. Mahogany on mahogany, semi-hollow, and P90’s. I saw Fender’s weak Noventa after I decided to do this, and laughed to myself. They’ve sold me too many cheap duds lately. They’re not worth the price.

No rhythm circuit = not a jazzmaster. Even fender is guilty of this sin. This is a jazzmaster *shaped guitar.

Should have gone with the 250k pots, sounds too brittle.
Easy swap in the future. When I built it, I used the suggested pots for the pickups. Agree that it is a little brittle when clean, but it works well with fuzz in that setup.
@@pougnetpedals that is how its supposed to sound. Jazzmasters actually have 1 meg pots so they are bright as hell. You have to use the tone knobs to tame it but they sound great in a mix with a full band and cut well with fuzz. Most people will pair a Tubescreamer with a Big Muff so that it can cut in the mix but Jazzmasters can do it without because they're so damn bright. It's an acquired taste.
