      I would say a must have is a CGM and pump if you want any Type1 doing Keto..as even a basal likely will need to be reduced once doing Keto..Im a type 1 with both omnipod and dexcom..i literally has to reduce my basal and even my carb to insulin ratio for bolus ..Doctor-one suggestion I have is that companies like medtronics or dexcom or Libre should include Ketone reads backs along with BS readings..im not sure why they haven't considered this and it's crucial with Type 1.

    I was diagnosed with type 1 in 1970. I am finally getting really good control on a near-carnivore diet.
    Not one endocrinologist has ever given me good advice on my diabetes. In fact, leaving aside moral problems with the practice, eating only endocrinologists would be a better diet for me than anything any endocrinologist has suggested... one board-certified one insisted that eating under 100g of carbohydrates per day might endanger my brain...

    • @MJ-gj6mj
      @MJ-gj6mj 2 роки тому +1

      @@saoirse_flies Why do you need anyone's permission to feed your body well? The endocrinologist makes money on your diabetes being unmanageable. They push and push higher doses, multiple devices and they refuse to discuss something as basic as nutrition. Try a functional medicine Dr. if you can afford to and they will set you up on an eating plan with optimal nutrition that will starve your diabetes off. If that's not an option, Google some yummy recipes and have a go at the low carb lifestyle. It will help you more than anything your endo has ever prescribed.

      I have lost so much respect for endocrinologists. Keto has proven effective for long term on many levels for not only glucose control, but enhanced brain function. I have been T1 (for 21 years) on Bernstein diet (last 4 years), recently got a CGM, and do an analysis daily on the data, follow the guidelines by Dr Bernstein daily. It has reduced my average BG levels to a A1c of about 5.4% (average 5.8 mmol), virtually eliminated hypos (partly due to the CGM) and maximum postprandial excursions of typically less than 6.5 mmol. If you need any data logs of CGM data on a low carb diet, let me know!
    Keep up the good work, I only wish I learnt that carbs where not essential 20 years ago, instead of the standard (and what I consider blatantly wrong) dietary advise normally given to T1's. (also my weight has reduced to a steady optimum level, and energy, health, skin, etc all improved dramatically as a result of this dietary change)

      hi Tony . I'm a 39 yr old T1D since 2003. Finger-pricking 4/5 times daily with a Medtronic pump for insulin delivery. HbaA1 is around 7.8% which is a steady improvement from high 8's. I still have porridge for breakfast most days, exchanged salads for baguettes at lunch (in recent years), but don't want to give up pasta/rice/potatoes with my dinners. Average about 200 grams of carb a day. That must sound like loads to you these days...

But the main goal of it all is to have a steady even flow of insulin without having to do the crazy math calculation of how much insulin shots needed for a meal. I learn it's way easier on a low carb diet to still eat. But eat your food in a clean manner as much as possible. If you don't know if it's process or not. Don't eat it! Even good starchy foods can be misleading. Most of the foods I eat I have to prepare. No bread or less of it and pasta or rice and potatoes. The obvious stuffs are easy. Sugar. Fruits can be tricky too. Lots to learn! Lots of spices are great too. Less sugar and salt.

      @@SandyLovesMarc Praise God you got this information. Of 6 in my family, 6 are diabetic, 2 T1s, 4 T2s. 3 are dead, one from DIRECT results of bad medical diabetic management.
      I am the youngest in my family, and I am the healthiest at my age than anyone else in my family when they got to this age.
      T1, insulin pump, very low carb, 43 years.

    Type 1 since i was 4 years old and now in my 40's. This is exactly what ive been looking for as feel that what ive been led to believe my whole life by the medical profession was very poor advice and poorly researched.

    Type1 diabetic here. Following very low carb and only from natural sources (non-processed) i have perfect numbers, not taking any rapid insulin and looking to share my story with the scientific community. Big farma wont like this btw, as they wont be selling anymore insuline and needles XD

    The thing that doesn't make sense in the pancreas hypothesis of D1 is how can someone go from extremely high levels of glucose and then few hours later go to exrremely low levels. Where did all the glucose go??? It has to be stored somewhere it cant just have been eliminated that fast. So it really doen't complete th reasoning here.

      That's quite high, 50g or lower is better but if you're a type 1 diabetic yes, start with a high number close to what you already eat and decrease it slowly. I'm not a doctor though so please do more research before you start. The important thing if you're type 1 is to take it slow, don't drop your carb level drastically overnight.
