Heck the Kia dealership I went to the guy that sold me my car did not tell me diddly squat about it. I learned most of what I know about it from the owner's manuals, UA-cam, and Google. I mean really who wants to sit here and read a owners manual that's as big as a dictionary. That's why I came on to UA-cam and looking for men and women like this that offer help for us thank you very much for that help.
Thanks for this, had knee surgery and could drive for a month and a half. Went to go move my 23' kia Sportage Hybrid for the first time since surgery this morning and it wouldn't unlock or respond to kia connect.

I just got a 2017 Kia Sportage and although I'm reading the manual cover to cover, it's taking a while and I'm only halfway through. In the meantime I had been wondering how I would unlock my door if the battery ever died in the fob. Great video, perfectly explained and demonstrated.

good to find this since i had an issue where the car's battery drained overnight. Even to this day i have no idea why this happened since the battery itself was fine (still charged with no issue), and the car is designed to hard shut off after 5 minutes of locking. At the time i was not able to find a way to get in since there is no visible keyhole anywhere on the car without knowing this.

Yes, it snaps back in easily. Just remember to pull the handle out to get it positioned correctly before clicking it into place.

Thanks for this! Is there a way to drive the car without the working remote, just using metal key> I have lost my remotes and need to get the car to the Kia dealer to reprogram the new key, and I would like to avoid having to tow it there!
Oh no! To the best of my knowledge, you're going to need a remote to start the car. I'm sorry!

Your video is awesome...my button is a complete nightmare....I opened it only once...can't duplicate opening it. Huge design flaw not putting some protection under the handle for doing this. I was just waiting to scratch the new paint. Very stressful...and I wasn't even really locked out....that day is going to suck. Thanks again for the video!
Yeah, it does get easier if you know how to do it, that's why I encourage people to know how to do it BEFORE they need to.

No. To the best of my knowledge, any Kia with this system only has it on the driver's door.
Yeah ! Thank you for this information. My FOB will not open driver's door. At Kia dealer right now-- I'm scared. They want $179 just to look at it. I'm unemployed no income. COVID still rampant in CA. If this works, I can at least get into my car without climbing over the passenger seat every time !

Will that metal key start the car? The metal slipped from my key fob, and must have went under the car because the car still started. Now, I'm stranded
Sorry to hear about that. The metal key does not start the car, it's the fob that does.
What about passander door on KIA sportage 2010?
The issue I've got is that I've followed these steps and the key doesn't unlock the door. Any ideas?
Very useful info. I have a 2016 Sedona. Do you know if it works the same way?
The 2016 and 2017 Sedona's on our lot have a traditional key slot. The Optima and Sportage have this style door handle, it's possible there will be more models in the future with this hidden key lock.
I can't get the lock cover to come off, i do feel the spring tension when I push up on the key.... Do I need to pry the cover off ... i.e. with a screwdriver?
Make sure you pull the handle out. There is a lip that sits underneath the handle that holds the trip piece in. You can also try gently turning the key JUST a little bit and it may pry the cover loose. Once you know how to do it, it becomes easier, but the first few times it can be a little awkward.

The key turns, but the door doesn't unlock? That's very odd. I'm not sure what to tell you, I'm sorry. You would have to connect with your local service department for that.
I was able to unlock my 2019 forte using this technique but the alarm was triggered and I couldn’t start the car. What’s up with that?
I'm not sure exactly what happened in your case. Sometimes you have to unlock the car in the same way that you locked the car, in other words, because you didn't lock it with the key, but you unlocked it with the key, the alarm went off. As for why it didn't start, I can't be sure in every situation. Low battery? Engine immobilizer kicked in with the alarm? It's tough for me to know just in the comments section here. When in doubt, touch base with your dealer, and they can usually help.

Put the keyfob directly on the Push Button Start - when the keyfob is dead.
I wish my grandmother knew this otherwise she would still be alive she froze to death because she could not get into this thing.

You can lock and unlock your door with this key lock. The only difference from the old fashioned keys is that this key lock is hidden.
While it's started tho? Cuz I can't warm up my vehicle without leaving the door open. It won't let me lock it while started
I've never tried that. I can't see why it wouldn't... maybe we'll have to try that here sometime.

Hello. You would have to call your local dealer.
So your key fob is dead, you get into the car, what if it has push button start? What then?
If it's your key fob that is dead and not the car battery, you would have received several warnings telling you that the key fob is dead. If you see those warnings, make sure you get the key fob battery changed. Having said that, if the car battery is still working, you should be able to start the vehicle by using the key fob to press the start button. I hope that helps!
So why didn't they just leave a key hole there? I don't understand why they have to complicate things. I just got a 2021 and some of the features I likes about my last Kia are gone now. Ugh!
Yeah, I think they figure that the key hole doesn't have to be used very much, so this is a cleaner look. It may also contribute in the smallest way to aerodynamic efficiency, and potentially cut down on wind noise? The reality is, they like the look.
And how do I start my engine with the regular key?
I'm not sure what you're asking.
@@BrantfordKia this morning I found out how to start my engine with the traditional key (my remote's battery was dead). You just press the key button with the remote instead of your finger and it starts the engine 🙂 hope this helps anyone out there
@@cathychats Right. So when you said traditional key, I didn't realize that you meant the key fob. You're correct. Press the start button with your fob and that should work.
that's just plan stupid, nice job KIA... The Tuscon design is is so much smarter... but Hyundai / KIA locking programing is weird to say the least, maybe they should hire at least 10 year olds to program their software

You may want to connect with your service department. Make sure all the doors and trunk is fully shut, sometimes that will prevent the vehicle from locking.
I wish there was a way to lock the car and walk away from it. Example hot day and you wanted the air conditioner on because you're running into the store for a minute and don't want to come out to a hot car.
Be nice to be able to leave the car on and still have the car locked
If your car is equipped with a remote starter, you can do this using that function. Most new models are coming with remote start.

@@braddeem4998 You can usually add this as an accessory if you wanted. It depends on how much the feature matters to you.

If you didn't break anything, just lift the handle, slide the flap that goes under the handle in place and give it a semi firm bump with an open hand It should click in place.
