You just opened up a whole new world for me!
These videos are so amazing. You have a real gift for being able to teach and your videos are always of the highest quality. So very impressed with your massive artistic talent, thank you so much for sharing!
Wow, thank you!
Your voice is very soothing, thank you. I like that you like distress inks for a base layer, alcohol markers are so popular, but I'm with you, I prefer the subtlety of distress inks. .
you have very nice skin, lovely hands. I like your style of art, and most of all, your voice. Thank you for so kindly sharing with me. Be well. Bye now
So nice of you
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! The picture that you have completed are so detailed and colorful. I would love to see more! I have never used distressed ink but I may just give it a try! Thank you for sharing!
Every time I see that octopus, I am so impressed with his eye. There is just something magical about it. You have a marvelous talent!
Thank you Lisa
Your work is AMAZING. You have really inspired me. I have a ton of the mini distress inks and never thought of using them in color books, but boy o boy, I'm going to now! So glad Ann at A Colorful Life mentioned you.
OMG, this is the most beautiful colouring.. I ❤️❤️❤️ your art! thank you so much for sharing this video; it's in my saved documents and I'm so looking forward to learning how to do this technique.. thank you so much again.
Thank you Kaithlyn
Fabulous thanks for your help.Yes I hope you complete it ,I realise I am a year large.Sending you a 👏and a 🌈
I had to look up what distressed ink is after you mentioning in another video you had used distressed ink I love the effect. Will definitely be trying some. Just what I need...more art supplies.
Thank you. I'm new but an artist. I am having so much fun with the books and pencils. Now this will add to my fun.

Awesome tutorial for these Distressed Inks, thanx!
Thank you! That was very helpful! :) xx
Wow so glad Ann from A Colorful Life sent me over here. You’re work is stunning. Totally enjoyed watching you colour, hope to see you colour more. I could watch you all day.
Definitely I terested in seeing you colour the rest of this beautiful picture.
Can’t wait to do a page with the Distressted ink thankyou xx 😘
Please adjust the sound . You speak very low and it sounds muffled
Your coloring is amazing! I came over from Ann. She is trying this technique and mentioned that here is where she learned about distressed ink! Please do more videos - I just subscribed! Would love to learn more about your coloring style - truely beautiful!!!
Thank you
Your coloring pages are GORGEOUS!!! Im going to try this technique.
You said “almost a dark navy” but what color is it? I’m new to inking and don’t know which color is that. It would be nice if the names were in the “more” section also but I don’t see it hear. It it might be my eyesight. Amazing art! I hope I can do that some day.

Thanks for a really great and helpful video. I have a few of these inks and one applicator with two sponges, they have sat in my cupboard for two years, I think I am not motivated to give them a try. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
I need a video on how to do clouds and bubbles! Please help. I am a very determined newbie!!! I Love Love Love yours!!! Talented. Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you
Never seen anyone use the distressed inks like that. gorgeous and the cosmetic q-tips look like they will work without falling apart like the regular q-tips do. Thanks. There may be hope for me yet.
Glad it was helpful!
Love the video, what kind of pencils are you using?
Thank you, most of the pencils would be Prismacolor Premiers
Great video.I would be playing with my distress ink.Great technique.Thank you for sharing
Thank you
Ok you just answered my questions!!! Thank you!!!
😊
This is SO helpful, thank you. I’ve just bought a few Distress Inks to try, so I’ll be following your techniques!
You are so welcome!
This is the first time I have seen a video using Distress Inks. Do you have to use just this brand or type of ink? The Distress Ink is quite expensive to purchase.
I use distress inks because they are water based, and do not bleed through the pages...
😳 woooowwwww! Your finished pages are absolutely stunning!!!! I’m working in the same book currently. Wow!! Absolutely amazing
Thank you
Have you tried distressed paint by Tim Holtz?
Nope
Ahhhhh! Soooooo therapeutic........Thank you :-)
Thank you
Hello dear Karen, am in awe your colourwork in Imagimorphia is Stunning the colours just pop and radiate gorgeous colours thank you for sharing. I love Kerby's Morphia Series my favourite being Colormorphia, Imagimorphia & Mythomorphia I have started working in. I haven't coloured this one your inking. Wow I love the way the inks shade and blend. I have ordered 6 Distress Oxide Inks and Tools to start to play with. I Love watching you coloring and could watch you colour for hours bless you. At the mo I need another to boxes for my new colouring books, new inks and tools and colouring pencils. I will do a video on all my books and colouring materials at some point. One thing was going to ask. How does one set up camera for videoing as would like to video some work at some point in time. Blessed be...Look forward to join you in part 2 bless. Thank you Karen as always much Love n big hugs Blessings Namaste xxx💜🎨🦋☕🌻☕🙏🌈🌞
Hi Lizzie, I use my phone to record videos and I use this to hold it: www.amazon.com/dp/B07B93ZJYM/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_wEraFbKC9MCGC
I have been trying to decide between distressed inks & pastels for backgrounds & I am thinking I am going to buy distressed inks after watching this. A lot less mess than dealing with pastels. thank you!
Thanks for watching

Wow - I love this! I have some distress inks, but never thought of using them in this way (I watched the video twice 😄). This would be a lot easier on the paper than adding a lot of water with watercolor pencils or Inktense. Ingenious! Thank you so much for these videos - I would love to see more.
Love this video ❤❤😊
Love this! First time I have seen distress ink being used in coloring. Learned alot, thank you. Will definately tune into your channel again you do beautiful work!
Awesome! Thank you!
You are a natural artist with a clever eye. This is the first time I've watched how you create with "Distress" products they are magic in your hands. I have tried to do what you do and created beautiful mud. Thank you for sharing your ideas I look forward to learning from a great teacher.
Thank you so much!
This is really cool! Could have watched all night! Why does my family need dinner every night!?! I just want to color! Can't wait to watch the rest. ;)
Wow, great work.
I LOVE how imaginative you are!! You don't have limits and it is wonderful to see what you can do!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this video. I purchased a few of the mini distressed inks to try out. I was wondering if you clean the litttle velcro pads between uses? Or do you just leave them matched to the color you regularly use with that pad? Thank you so much again for a beautiful video!
No I do not clean them, you can but make sure they are completely dry before using them
@@ZucchiniKitty Thank you 🙂
Wow such beautiful work ❤️
Thank you so much 😀
Please continue the rest on video..Really enjoy watching the process..i have the distress oxides, was wondering how they might work
Thank you for watching, the rest of the videos are listed in the drop down box. Oxides are an opaque distress inks are transparent it would be a different effect.
Omg! I LOVE how you do Kerbys pictures! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see you do more of his work! I have all of his books and am super excited to get the newest one that releases the 29th this month 🤩🥰.
And YES! I WANT to see you color all of the pictures 😆🤩🥳😎🥰
Very nice !
Ann Siggers of a colourful life pointed me in your direction, your work is superb !! I live in the UK and belong to Ann’s group ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for this tutorials. I didn't know about these inks until I saw this video. Now I not only have bought a few mini inks but also Fantomorphia to follow your tutorials on this book if there's still some, because I've seen your book is almost completed already. But I hope I can learn from what you do from now on and from what you have done.
I love the mix of inks and pencils and of course your personal good taste for color combination.
Congratulations for this beautiful work and please, keep on uploading tutorials. (Your unfinished Fantomorphia pages would be a great help!)
Love love love it. Love you attitude to colouring, and it is reflected in the whimsical maturity of your work. Carefree and intuitive. Nice to have someone doing something different. Thx again
Your pages are STUNNING. Just stunning!
Thank you
Hi, your work is beautiful and i love what you did with the distress ink. Im wanting to start using these maybe for backgrounds. Are there some kits or colors of some most frequently used for backgrounds that you might recommend to start with? Thank you for your wonderful videos and your thoughts!
Oh my goodness, what spectacular colorings! I was just watching a video from Ann at A Colorful life and she just mentioned you and I had to come take a look. Subscribed!! Amazing work!
@ZucchiniKitty Karen!! You are the BEST…I love watching you work; everything you do is incredible and so inspiring! (My wallet does not wish to make a comment at this time, however…😂) When The Ink House came out, we were both working on it at the same time; every page you did was flat-out AMAZING and mine…well, what little I completed leaves a LOT to be desired…🤦🏻♀️
I have a question for you: After binging a TON of your newer videos (getting to have a FULL ZucchiniKitty day was TOTALLY worth having Covid!) I became captivated by your ink work. I LOVE the effect of the distress inks/oxides in your work, and I really like the idea of using a supply that doesn’t bleed through (like alcohol markers) and is able to create a lovely base coat in a considerably shorter amount of time. I’m trying to make a “keepsake” for one of my Littles (who’s graduating high school in a couple of months 😳), and I want to use lightfast materials so it won’t disappear before her high school reunion! 😝 I know that being in a book will provide less exposure than, say, hung on a wall, but I’ve seen fugitive pigments fade in journals in dark rooms before, so I’m trying to only use things I *know* will be safe.
I researched the inks, and it appears the Distress Oxides are pretty lightfast, but the Distress Inks are similar to any dye-based product. Of course, the Oxides appear to be pretty opaque, and while I’ve seen you use both, it would appear you use the Inks more often. So my question is this: Do you do anything that’s effective against the dyes fading with time…especially when they’re in a background, or other area where they won’t be totally covered by a more stable colored pencil? (I’ve never seen you talk about this; if you have, please feel free to point me to the right video. Or just delete this epic comment and block me… 😶) If you don’t do something to your pages to make them “behave” for a long time, are there any products you’d recommend that are lightfast AND fast? (I used to have some small Ranger Archival inks, but they were dried out when I got them; I should’ve returned but didn’t.) I considered watercolor, but the pages I’m using aren’t super water-friendly. ANY input would be MUCH appreciated…including any ideas for books to use! I’ve been using Worlds of Wonder, Worlds writhin Worlds, and an Oh the Places You’ll Go coloring book…I was thinking I’d pull pages out of all three and create my own “DIY” journal with a personalized “Oh the Places” kind of story. That said, I’m not far in (AT ALL), and would GLADLY give up my hodge-podge idea for a better one, Karen.
So, no pressure, but can you please let me know what book I should use, the supplies I should use in said book, and any other advice/suggestions you have on any part of this project? (Such as, ”Stop writing me epically long messages in my comments thread,” for example…) Actually, could you just DO IT FOR ME? It’d probably take you less time than responding to all of this insanity…😂
Thank you again, Karen, for everything you share here. You truly are one of my favorite people to watch, and I greatly admire your work. While I’d certainly never hold anything you suggested as gospel if something should go wrong, I really would like to know your thoughts. If you don’t want to answer my questions, PLEASE don’t; regardless of anything else, it brings me great joy to see you’ve uploaded a new video. That alone sparks gratitude and thanks, and it’s been a pleasure watching your channel (and art!) grow and branch out! Please keep sharing your beautiful work with the world, and thank you as always for all you do! 🤗💕
If you wish to make a keepsake book for your kids or grandkids, then yes you should change your ink to a lightfast ink or archival ink, Ecoline" or Ph Martin's "Radiant" are liquid watercolor products that are lightfast, but will bleed through pages... You could look into chalk inks for there lightfastness. I would suggest investing in a good quality paper and making copy's of the pages you wish to put into your book/journal... Distress ink will last in books for years (at least mine has, over 9 years with no fading in a closed book, and that long on other projects I have made that sit out on shelves) with no fixative covering them but you could also look into a archival spray to seal in the work... but the distress ink must be dry at least a couple a days before spraying... since it is waterbased and will move when a liquid is applied... hope this helps
@@ZucchiniKitty Thank you so much for your thoughtful and helpful reply! I actually came to coloring from a watercolor background, and while I thought about painting a base with them, it never crossed my mind to use liquid watercolors as a replacement for inks! I really like that idea, especially if using inking applicators that will help control the excessive water. I have the PH Martin’s Hydrus line; my understanding is that their Radiant (and Ecolone, I *think* ) are dye-based and *not* lightfast. It breaks my heart…those BEAUTIFUL little glass bottles are SO tempting…but the Hydrus *are* pigment-based and lightfast.
Thank you again for your insight, and, as always, for your inspirational videos! 💗
This is fantastic! So glad I found this video as I can now add inks into my work too. I use them in mixed media but hadn’t thought of using them in my books xxx💕
Can distressed oxide ink be used also?
Yes, they are more on the opaque side, so they may cover some pencil work. I would so a test first...
Oh wow! Are there smaller tools for applying the ink?
Thanks for watching
@@ZucchiniKittyI love how you use the distressed inks! Can you please do a tutorial with the inks for coloring the metallic parts? I just received Colourmorphia and it’s so beautiful but intimidating. You make it look so easy with the inks!
Oh Goodie... Distress Inks are now on MY wish list! Thank You so much for showing us how it's done, and since I'm coming late to your channel, I'll be sure to be on the lookout for more of your marvelous coloring technique videos. Thank You for sharing your awesome techniques with us!
Thank you for your wonderful comments ~ TFW
I agree with Lisa. I haven’t been able to justify getting the distress inks just for my collating/journaling but getting double duty with coloring is awesome!!! Tfs🌺
I totally agree!
I’d love to see this picture finished!
Links to the other parts are in the description box
Freaking beautiful 😍
Thank you
Oh my! Wow! 😮 Your coloring is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this technique with distress inks. I just happened to find your channel today, and I am so glad. New subscriber here!
Thank you and welcome.
Beautiful coloring!!!
Thanks so much 😊
Wow your coloring is just amazing! When I look at very intricate pages as such I get intimidated! Not anymore now that I’ve found you. Thank you sooo much for sharing your talents. R u using water coloring pencils ? What good quality pencils do you recommend? I have tons but just off brand except SU water coloring pencils. I just subscribed so I’m looking forward to more videos!,
Thank you so much 😊
It's a whole new world. I've seen people do similar with water colors, but I didn't want to deal with the mess, the water and taping down the paper... Uhg. Thank you for talking the time to do this!!
Thanks so much 😊
Just found your channel and your work is so beautiful 😍. Could you tell me the name of the last coloring book you showed? I love peacocks and would love to get it. Thank you 😊
That book is called Fantomorphia by Kerby Rosanes
Thank you so much for showing this ! Another technique to test out...yay ! 😃💖
Hi there, I am absolutely impressed with your colouring techniques, I have distress inks I would never of thought to use them in my colouring books, you know how to think outside of the box. Just beautiful colouring, thanks for show us a new way to colour.
Thank you so much!
Beautiful colors
I love your work! thank you so much for sharing!
Subscribed after watching Ann on A Colorful Life. I would really like to try the distress inks in my coloring books. Can you please let me know if the distress ink makes the paper buckle at all? Does it damage the paper at all? Thanks. Your pictures turned out beautiful.😊💖
Hi Stella, Distress inks are water based, but if used with a blending type tool will NOT buckle coloring book paper. Only if you add water to the inks then will. It is always best to test any new medium on a back page in the color book just to see how they work on that particular bool. :)
I have a total of 8 distress inks and I love using them in my colouring books especially for backgrounds I definitely want some other colours for my collection 😀
Thanks for watching
Absolutely beautiful work! Thank you for sharing. 😍❣️
Thank you! 😊
absolutely brilliant
It's amazing artwork 🖌 I found watching this very relaxing and at the same time getting some great tips 😊
Thank you so much 😀
Just awesome. I love your idea of using the inks as a base. I will for sure be doing this in my coloring. Again awesome idea!!!
Oh wow! thats awesome
Thank you
very beautiful. I also really like to paint with distress ink instead of watercolor.
Thank you so much 😃
Love how you used the distress inks.... im going to try using it... thanks for sharing
Thank you Have fun!
❤️🌹
Thank you! 😊
Hi Karen, I would like you to finish the page. You do so well !!
The other parts are listed in the description box, this video is 3 years old 😊
I have lots of Distress ink pads because I also love coloring stamps but never thought of using them in my coloring books. Your coloring pages look amazing!! Love to see you color. I do have a question... what would be the difference when you should have colored this with just the pencils? I'm curious what the Distress ink add. Sorry if my English isn't correct but hopefully you understand my question. I'm going to follow you from now on!
Hi Jolanda, I have done backgrounds with the distress inks and used techniques I could not get with pencils. I have also colored the page with just the inks, I love the smooth coverage the ink gives as a base coat to pencils too. I have always enjoyed working with inks so this way of coloring for me was just a natural step. I hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching ~ take care
ZucchiniKitty Thank you for the quick reply! Yes I can imagine the ink gives a smooth base. I will definitaly try myself very soon! Thanks again, tomorrow I'm going to watch some more of your inspiring videos. 😘
I've just found you from Simple Arts for Adults...I love your coloring technique!! I'm thankful you decided to record the rest of your coloring!! Now...I've got to get me some distress ink...hahaha. Question, do you work any with pastels? Doo you think they would work kinda like the inks? I've really enjoyed watching your videos and have learned a lot...thanks for sharing!!!
Enjoyed your video. Instead of using the dauber, have you tried using the Colorsnap tool and pad? The pad's come in different shapes including an oval that is smaller than the dauber your are using, therefore it might be easier to use in smaller areas. Your artwork is beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
I am soooo late to the party here! Question about distress inks. How do you get the blender tool and pad primed when you use the pads for the first time. I’m having difficulty getting a lot of ink on the spongy part (but not on my fingers 😂). Thank you in advance for your help! I’m learning so much from your videos 💖💖💖
The way I load a new pad is to rub the pad that is on the tool in a circular pattern on the ink pad, holding the tool only by the handle, then on a scratch paper rub the pad hard onto it, repeat 3 or 4 times, making sure to also roll the edges of the pad onto the paper (like a wheel) by the 5th time it should be primed for inking. BTW I always get ink all over my fingers it is part of the fun... 😊
Thank you soooo much for the quick reply! I appreciate your thoughts you shared. BTW I’m following one of your color-alongs from the HK Magical Dawn book (the hourglass page). I’ll tag you on IG when I’ve completed it! 🥰🙌🏻💖
Can you show us your cards too.
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Yes please, do more☺️
Now I wish I had bought distressed inks instead of Pan Pastels, lol not really, now I can get the inks later. Your colored pages are just stunning! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much, great ! It's a new technique for me and try it soon. So wonderfull without limits. Excuse my english... Kiss
What type of black metallic ink did you use? All your pages are so beautiful!
fascinating. I love watching this. The distress ink technique is interesting. Oh no! New art supply :)
Just love the method of your using distress inks. Thank you so much. Must try it myself...?!!?
Hi Karen. Do you spray your prismas when you are finished l have noticed that mine just seem to lose their vibrancy, and do polyos blend in your opinion,l seem to have trouble with them being so hard .
Hi Beverley, I don't spray any of my colored pages and I haven't noticed them loosing their vibrancy but I also don't want to spray them because the distress ink I use would bleed or lift. In regards to polychromos, blending is different than with prisma, you have to layer the polychromos over and over again to get the illusion that they're blended, it won't pull the color like the prismas do. There's a learning curve to polychromos, but the more you use them the more comfortable you'll be. TWF :)
ZucchiniKitty Thankyou so much Karen .
Your coloring is absolutely stunning, just gorgeous.!! In awe..WOW! New subscriber followed link from Dede Willingham.
Hi Kitty. Just found you yesterday and so happy I did. Beautiful work. Please don't stop coloring. You're doing great . Hope to see more coloring videos from you.
Also could I use a paint brush for the smaller areas? And I heard you say we can use water too like water colors so that is cool!! I have a book I don't like so I'm definitely trying all this to practice
Please practice, using the distress ink as a water color is a fun technique, apply ink to a plastic sheet add a bit of water and paint away... try it out before adding to a fav coloring book.
@@ZucchiniKitty oh trust me I will. I've paid too much for these to ruin them. I like the solid rubbing color on the page and blending for backgrounds. I just need to get better application tools. The ones I have are sort of hard. They rub the color just not the way your tools do
What is the difference between distress inks and Derwent Inktense?
Distress ink comes in the form of a ink pad, wet, and can be applied with a sponge, brush, or stamp
Derwent Inktense comes in the form of a pencil, dry, and the ink must be activated with water. It is used like a pencil or like watercolor with a water brush, or a brush dipped in water. It dries quickly and if completely activated will dry and can not be reactivated/making itpermanent
@@ZucchiniKitty I get that, but I wonder if the end result is all that different? Is this just a gimmick? I have found also that adding water to Inktense after its dry does in fact make a difference. PETA Hewitt also found this out. I’m interested but not sure if I should make the extra expense to get them. Interested in your thoughts.
@@catlady256 I like both products, the Distress Inks are good for large backgrounds, they fill in the space easier, while Inktense are better for detail work, using Inktense for a large background could wet the paper too much and it would warp. Inktense come in colors that more align to most color pencil sets while Distress Ink are their own color selection, so they won't always match. Are you asking to get Distress ink or Intense? I have used Distress ink for over 8 years and started using them in coloring books when I started coloring, it is not for everyone... it takes practice.
@@ZucchiniKitty asking about distress ink, already got Inktense. Yes water does mess with the pages, last order I put in was for the water type crayons a lot use them for backgrounds can’t think what they are called now. Might have to set up with some distress inks then I have seen some really beautiful things done with them. Your work is amazing btw.
@@catlady256 Thank you
Wow! Your work is so amazing and gorgeous. I had heard of these inks and wondered about getting them. I guess my pocketbook will have to suffer another expense with these. Thank you for the videos. I enjoy them immensely.
I would love to see any work you have completed with distress inks and coloured pencils in inky ivy?
I love your videos. I bought a bunch of little distress markers because I wasn't sure how you were achieving your effects but I love it and would love for you to do a color along! Beautiful work!!
