I've had a few Barbour jackets over the years started with a Gamefair then a Border jacket both had short sleeves which I hated but stuck with then around 8 years ago bought a Barbour Fontenbleau from ebay for £35 it's very much like a Beufort except the game pocket zips are rectangular with the Barbour logo and has 2 zip up wallet pockets on the inside and in chestnut brown , never heard of this jacket but I live in it. Then last year my wife bought me a Beufort 40th anniversary in navy I like it but not the sleeves but haven't yet had the wet arm syndrome.
My Border has now been past down to my eldest son a jacket that is 1 year older than he is and he told me he will get the sleeves lenghend and the tear on the inside repaired.
Love the video and hope your shoulders get sorted.

I have 4 Barbour wax jackets and old utility and a new Northumbria which have cotton lined sleeves and a couple of beacon sports jackets with nylon sleeves (in blue and olive), the cotton lined sleeves have been great, you would also like the 2 large poachers pockets on the Northumbria, on the inside though, each can take a 4 pint bottle of milk!
For the 2 beacon sports jackets, I bought the blue one new about 10 years ago and immediately had problems with the sleeves, I took it to the Barbour shop and they replaced the sleeves under warranty as it was put down as a “fault”. This was a slow process though as warranty items seem to be at the back of the queue for work! I more recently found a second hand beacon sports jacket cheap second hand in olive and immediately sent it back for a clean and rewax and to get the sleeves re lined, all in it will cost £85 (£50 for the clean and rewax and £35 for the sleeves relined). A relatively inconvenient and high expense on a not particularly cheap jacket but I want to enjoy it and be comfortable wearing it so makes sense.
I like the style of the Bristol, slightly shorter and more fitted than the Northumbria but a lighter waxed cotton as well (6Oz v the Northumbria’s 8Oz which I’ve bought specifically for colder weather). One thing to be aware of with the Northumbria (and I think the Beaufort as well) is the sleeves are on short size, I’ve read this is for shooting so they don’t get in the way. They are fine for me, I’m 6’2, slim build and wear a 38.
Hope you are able to find a way to get the Bristol’s sleeves altered so you can enjoy it properly!

@@giveitaswingoutdoorswithsm2901 it’s annoying that they use these nylon sleeves it’s clearly not popular! Anyway enjoyed the video and watching a fellow wax jacket fanatic 😂

Right, so pleased you made this video... your not on your own.. the new sleeve lining are horrendous... even a half mile walk taking the children to school leave the arms drenched. I know you now live abroad but I've contacted barbour and they are changing the sleeve linings in my new jacket for 35 quid. All in however including postage etc probably a bit more... I wish I had never got rid of my old one...... the new ja k is almost unusable......kind regards

In the more tailored Ashby model the polyester lining in the sleeves might make sense; it is easier to slip the lightly tighter sleeves over for instance a blazer. But the Beaufort sleeves are roomy enough to make this possible even with cotton lining. I have no idea of the cut of the Bristol, if the sleeves are tight or not. But I think Barbour saves a few pence going for polyester lining.

Yes I think its about Saving money in production but it May cost the company more in the long term in loss of customers

I own a number of Barbours in various styles and this is my biggest complaint with the Ashby, which is otherwise a wonderful coat. I've thought about sending it to Barbour for a sleeve lining modification. Wife has complained about the same thing with her Beadnell which also has poly lined sleeves. It's a major misstep by Barbour IMHO.

Hey smith, I live in the tropics so am a dummy when it comes to winter clothes but even I know they shouldn't have made an impermeable liner on the inside. I have an old shirt I use for fishing that the pockets wore out so I added clear gorilla tape on the inside and they have held through two washings.Good luck with your medical adventure.

i got a barbour beaufort, 40th edition and it has the same arms....and i have beads of water on the inside of my sleeves, when i go on the pennine moors... its a known problem, but barbour wont change their design....ridiculous... i have 3 barbours and am a loyal customer, and they wont listen to anyone...
ps the barbour beaufort classic, has tartan in the arms...thats what you need or an old barbour border, or barbour northumbria..

I have three Barbour wax jackets and they’re great but I also ordered a Beaufort 40th but sent it back because of the polyester sleeve lining and the condensation issue , Barbour need to stop this , you can get Barbour to put better sleeve lining in but on a brand new jacket it’s a bit of a Micky take.

They are mostly junk nowadays. I just ordered an Ashby and returned it because it had faulty stitching… then I ordered a Bristol because because the Ashby was so obviously lesser quality than the old style barbours. The Bristol arrived with a stud broken off so was returned also. I’m glad that happened rather than having soaked arms through sweating.
Both jackets are clearly just fashion jackets rather than performance outdoor jackets - like my previous older Barbour jackets - like the Solway zipper etc that were all made in the UK
