I can also confirm that it’s possible to take a mid-cut of the stem with no leaves on it, stick it in water and it can root and regrow. I imagine a prop box would work too.
Jeff, your Can Do attitude about propagating gives me courage to lop the leggy ones. Thank you for continuing to post lessons. (P.S. getting close to 100k, huh!?)
Thanks for this! The plant I got a couple years ago is leggy and I didn't know what to do. So I'm gonna give it a top chop and hopefully it will start rooting by Christmas for gifts. The leaves are a beautiful red and green.
I saw this video yesterday. It was so helpful! It gave me the impetus I needed to repot a leggy Aglaonema "Pink Siam." It looks fantastic, and is growing new leaves at several points. Thanks!
I agree with you. Aglaonema are an underrated plant. I had a Siam pink growing in my office and it was such a gorgeous drama-free plant. I ended up giving to a coworker because she likes pink plants. I’ve been wanting to replace it but I haven’t as of yet. I may go see what’s available at Lowe’s or HD.
Hey! Funny, mine got leggy and fell over, I cut it back and I have little growth points showing up along the remaining stems. I put the cut portions in water, last time I did that it took a long time and the leaves died off. So I planted them in the mother pot and after a while, they sprouted. So for me, it seemed to take a long time to regrow, but at least it did regrow!
This video is encouraging me to try water propagating mine again. Lost patience with the long, long wait for any roots to appear. Problem was probably the light level was too low. I have a huge Silver Bay aga and it often has the sugar things, but (knock on wood) no pest for the 4 years I grown it
01:45 I would repot them into taller pot/vase and bury the stems all the way up to the just below the white parts of petioles. Problem solved 🤣 Then, couple months later, probably all nodes would have roots and plants growing out which would create a new problem... too many plants crowded in one pot 🤭
Thank you Jeff! This was well timed as I have several Aglaonema rooting in water on my dining room table, looking lovely, and I wasn’t sure how long the roots need to be before potting them in soil. Mine are ready. The tip to bunch them together a bit like a bouquet I was also helpful. I’ve tried propagating wet sticks in both sphagnum moss and soil, but they did nothing and eventually rotted. Have you ever tried that method?
You can’t repot and prune back at the same time, can you? I have one that has compacted soil and should get fresh soil, it also needs pruning back. I was assuming I either repot or prune, then wait a few months to do the second step.
I would re-pot first. The plant needs a sufficient root system to push out growth. So I'd give it some fresh soil and prune when it is actively growing ....typically spring or summer
I have 3 silver bays I'm propagating and the leaves have curled inward. Why does the leaves do that? I've read it's because the roots are not formed and no uptake of nutrients is happening, is this the case? Will it fix itself once it has roots?
I can also confirm that it’s possible to take a mid-cut of the stem with no leaves on it, stick it in water and it can root and regrow. I imagine a prop box would work too.
Yes, a prop box would 100% work
Thanks! I will know a better way to arrange them next repot! 🎉 😊so much good advice that we all can search for ❤
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for your kindness ....I really appreciate the gift!

I've recently noticed my a glioma ma is getting leggy & have just been wondering about this. Very timely for me. Thank you Jeff for the great info!
You're welcome! I hope the propagation methods work well for you!
I just noticed that my favorite one is getting leggy too.
Always enjoy your videos because I learn so much good information! Thanks Jeff👍
I'm glad you're enjoying the lessons! 😂

One of my favorite genus. I have 9 different species. They are one if the easiest plants in my collection.
That's awesome! I love having a variety of plants.

It sounds like you've found a good method for getting yours to regrow!
I find the golden madonna to secrete more than average amount of EFN too! I love aglaonema too! Great video!
Yes, I would agree with you on EFN for sure!
great video. Its a mystery too me why aglaonemas aren't way more popular
I know....I wonder about this as well.
Mine looks like that with three stump's so I'm happy to see I did it right
I hope you see new growth soon!
OMG! I LOVE your t-shirt!
Thank you!! It's from tropic narcotics
The papaya is a beautiful specimen
I love this one

I don't think I've ever used a prop box for these cuttings.... I've always had really good success with just water.
Great video, lots of information!
Thanks! I'm glad you found it useful!
I need to do this with a few of mine as well. 😊
Make more plants!
@EverythingPlants I will!

What do I do to help a Sheffelera to make shouts out of a long empty stem ?
Thank you
Diffenbachias die here in the frost. But do Agalonemas survive frost or not?
No...any tropical plant can not survive frost/freezing 🥶

My Aglaonemas seem to be growing from one stem. Did yours start out with multiple stems?
Ow c long does it take your root in water.
These ones have been in there a couple months I do believe

Did you put them directly into soil? I would agree that it's a root problem or lack of roots
@@EverythingPlantsI'm water propagating
Oh, mine aren’t that long. I guess I should wait to prop them.
I have one I cut the top off of earlier this year and it still hasn’t pushed out new growth off the sides. 😢
Is it getting good light?
It’s under a grow light but could probably use more. The other stems in the pot are pushing lots of new growth.
Is this one a silver bay? 9:19
I believe it's the golden Madonna
@@EverythingPlants it’s really pretty. I’ve seen the silver bay on Etsy and they are very similar.
I noticed my water propagation in a dark container grew roots super fast.
@@planttherapy1860 dieffenbachia are like this as well
I didn’t realize you had that many Aglaonemas.
Only about 5 different varieties right now
I’ve only got four.

Thanks 👍
