As soon as I heard him say “who cares” and how she says “melpercio” I knew something sounded off. Didn’t know about the English change till I got it and sad about it but still a great underrated game
Suddenly glad they didn't redub it with the new voices. While the old dub was just bad quality wise, the voices fit so much better.
Funny, for the intro in the remaster, they actually used the dub as used in the original 2004 E3 trailer. This dub was later changed for the final release. Look it up.
for those who have played both, from this video it seems like the script is MUCH better in the gamecube original. Is this consistent throughout the game?
Yes, this is consistent through the remaster. The English script for the gamecube version is way better. There are so many dialogue changes in the remastered version, many of which just hand you the plot on a steaming crap platter. It makes the story feel so much less significant and almost cringey at times.

@Ronjonbify You're welcome! It's mostly a lot of small things (just like the intros) where it's kind of almost the same, but yet different enough to cross the line from good dialogue into cringe/cheesy weirdness. Also sometimes awkwardly fumbles little plot point spoilers early on that aren't addressed in the original until later in game. I'd definitely recommend playing the original, in fact please do, you won't regret it!
Started playing yesterday and I've heard the old opening so much that I was surprised the text gad changed! Why? They didn't redub the intro, what happened? God of destruction, who you really are, kill him etc. I find those more powerful that the text that's in it now. It's weird. I'm so happy I get to play again though!

The original english dub its BETTER than the remaster. I dont know why they change it. What do you think?

People keep thinking they redubbed the intro in the Remaster, this couldn't be further from the truth, this intro is actually from the original Japanese game (I own both) and was done before they ever found the voice actors for the English version. So technically, they simply reused the actual original intro, which was done because the remaster uses the original Japanese version at its core. As for the English voices, I despise the hate it gets, it was so unique, it gave Baten Kaitos half of its atmosphere, I love how Operatic it was. I hate that we finally got a remaster but it's incomplete because they removed half the game from it. I will always defend the original voices and voice acting.

they even changed the name of some magnus in the remake such as changing the japanese rice wine to rice brew, beer was renamed wheat tea, sacred wine renamed sacred water, etc. it all sucks tbh
Because the remaster is based off the Japanese version, these voices from the Japanese intro were done before they ever found the voice actors for the English version. The didn't change the intro, the technically reused the original one.

The Gamecube version was way better, they should feel embarassed for giving us this crap.
“Marpurchurro” are you fucking kidding me did they even try, so whack to redo the dub, have it be way shittier then the original, and then have the rest of the game in Japanese (which sounds great I enjoy it). Should’ve just scrapped any English all together if this was the route they took, I’m done bitching though because I never even thought we’d get a remaster
I love the original corny dub, it was fun to joke about it, then I heard this and...😳
I will never joke about it again, that dub is sacred and awesome, the best voice acting I've ever heard, compared to this
