Please people... Don't do what I did and strip the leaves off like your shucking a corn cob. Cut it like Lead did!
If you peel the leaves all the way down the trunk... You will end up with a pencil trunk!

rose5150 🤣😂🤣exactly leave the ugly leaves on the tree. They serve a good purpose. They help collect moisture and help protect the fragile trunk and leaves that are going to spin out the top.

Hi Lead73, I'm so glad I have run across your channel. I'm not a professional Gardner but you have certainly inspired me to start a Patio garden. I will look for a Dwarfed Banana Tree at Walmart or Lowe's asap. Thanks for the knowledge you share. Buying seeds or a tree is one thing but knowing what to do from start to finish is so necessary. I'm a new subscriber. I was given a sweet potato plant last summer and found a sweet potato buried in the soil a week ago. I didn't realize or know the little plant was going to bare sweet potato. The past few weeks have gained some knowledge from your videos. Thanks and have a great day.

Hallelujah 🙏🏾 with shipping it was a little pricey. Dwarf Cavendish ♥️ and I also just dumped my rabbit's litter box in the hole I dug for the tree 🤗 I'm glad you touched on fertilizer. I’m new to your Chanel as of this morning. I was given a banana tree last year from a patient, I split it with my aunt. It’s cold in the Chicagoland area so I potted it and in the cold months it’s in our home. I don’t know which one I have but it’s growing beautifully except 2 of the leaves. I watched you cut them off so that leads me to believe I can cut those off. I just subscribed to your change with hopes to learn more.
I also have a angel trumpet that I’m so close to tossing out cause it’s only bloomed once in the few years I’ve had it. So with all that being said I’m about to go through your Chanels and see what all information I can gather.

My daughter live in Florida, and have some banana trees going wild. And she did harvested a big bulk of banana fruits. We also has many types of bananas, and most of them are edible. They’re great! Yes, they are called 'tissue' propagation. Just think onions, flowering bulbs such as amaryllis and blah, you can slice them to grow more plants. The bananas and bulbs have that basal plate why you know it will work. To save money for acres of banana plantation, my folks would cut that corm in half. You leave at least 2 inches of the trunk/stem on, then bury it.

Boss good morning... i admire you for you’re having a green thumb, your passion of doing the garden.. if you dont mind, i wanna share to you and your supporters few words... it necessary cutting those leaves but not that too soon.. you must only cut those leaves only if they turns yellow or old... always keep atleast 4 or 5 leaves. If your plant is just that young especially only having 5 or less leaves, cut those leaves at the very middle and just keep the 2 youngest leaves uncut and grow. If you keep cutting those leaves that soon your plant will keep groing taller but thinner or skinny.. if your banana grows about your height or over 2 years old, you can let the leaves grow to their pick, or till they get dry, just simply cut it on the middle but you must ensure that you keep the base of the stem of the leaves green (not totally covered) by dried leaves, most you need to keep the trunk green or fresh. Cut the leaves from behind or underneath and cut it in slanting (45degrees) or diagonal position. This will ensure you nice cutting and not damaging the stem. Proper timing and position of cutting the grown or dried leaves helps the banana grow healthier and holds the ground heavily against the strong wind... if you keep cutting the leaves that early, yes it will grow easily and more taller but your banana will grow skinny and bears only limited number of fruits, and once bearing fruits it will become prone from falling when the wind blows for it can not support the weight... also it is important to transfer the baby or the new sprout in the right age (have no less that 4 full grown leaves), or no less thant 3 feet high. Just let them grow with the mother or main plant till it grows more and more babies but of no more than 10. For it helps keeping holds the ground strongly, and grow more healthy... also never cut and transfer the baby once the mother plant or the older one is about to bloom a flower or fruits and most if the fruits is a week(s) old. If you do that, it will affect the growing of the fruits that may even lead to dying... also, once your banana bears fruits, let it grow for couple of weeks till the very last part grow bigger, but your must cut the heart’s off once you notice the flower or the very tips of the fruit turning dry. Never allow it growing not being cut. If you want I will recommend you to cut it including the very last line or group of the fruit, it will ensure the fruits grow more bigger and healthier.... and during the harvest it is best to let the fruits grow and turns into light green or yellow in color, or you noticed that all leaves growing old or dying. It makes the fruits more sweeter. And always remember only planting the plant (with atleast 4 full grown leaves) with very young or un-openned leaf and cutted at the middle (the leaves) to ensure it will grow, and, bury the base into the ground of no leass 15 inches or more to ensure it will never fall down once bearing fruits... never worry about the distance between some other plants and your barn. You have a very huge space for them. Enjoy the farming... am glad if you will allow me show you pictures of my plants.

I just planted an Ice Cream Banana from Willis yesterday. It was $18.95 and I was surprised at it's size and how healthy it looked. I put it in a 25 Gallon fabric pot, so I can move it inside if needed, but I also plan to use this pot to propogate new banana plants that will go in the ground.
Most of the banana plants advertised online are not Hardy enough for zone 8a per the nursery, but I know you're in the same zone and you have them in the ground. I might take a risk on another variety based on your experience. What varieties besides ice cream do you recommend since we are in the same zone? Like which one is growing best for you...

I would not be able to grow ice cream banana in the ground in zone 8a because it won’t survive the frost. You really need a tall greenhouse to keep it alive long enough for it to get big enough to fruit.

I know this is old but the ZZ in the background is stretching. Scoot it right up to the window. Just subscribed due to just now got a dwarf Cavendish banana and wanted to see what different people were saying about it. I always tell people the "plants don't read the books". General info is good but then it is trial and error from there. You sound like you garden the way I do (what ever works for me) hope you are better now and staying healthy.

I just bought the Cavendish Banana Tree on Amazon and I paid 59.00. Came in a pot. I transferred it to a bigger pot that is sitting on the deck. From what you say I'm going to be very happy with it.

I've got an ice cream banana (not blue java, some close cross), dwarf puerto rican plantain, and manzano banana. Two of them are pushing out pups now. I'm gonna have to try the tissue culture thing now.
