It wouldn't be a TPP video without some pulling/pushing the canoe over some tough terrain! Shawn did fantastic and seems to know how to handle hard work, you always take it in stride! Love those white glasses! :) Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the next episode! :) :)
Yes Jacqueline, I may have to revive them!! (I lost that pair.) Vive Le White sunglasses! 😁 If I only paddled a canoe in a video, you guys would definitely be concerned for my sanity! 😄 Thanks Jacqueline, always a blast!
Wow! Been following your canoe trips for a while now. This one is shaping up to have a lot less paddling than the others! Bet y'all were sore after all that dragging.
I've done a few river trips locally on areas that canoe liveries don't maintain that required a few unforeseen portages, but absolutely NOTHING like what you experienced here. My local river is never more than a half mile from a road I could call for help from. That tunnel you carved through the brush was unreal! Though that rocky outcropping you stopped to rest on was really pretty.
Diamond Dave, you need to show your victims video of your past “portages” before they agree to come on a trip with you. Watching you guys, all I could think about was that heavy cast iron frypan. Hope you’re able to fry up some Walleye in that skillet. For a guy who was beat to start with, Shaune seemed to haul some ass. Good Job!
😄🤫 I wouldn't find any partners! 😉🤥 Yeah, had no idea until after that he brought one! 🤔 He sure did! But he tanked halfway, but still had a great attitude. Good guy! Hey Tyler, want to join me on a canoe trip? 😬
The white sunglasses are back! What was it that Anita said about them? :) Good to still see smiles at the end. Looking at the satellite view on Google Earth, the route from Cross Bay looks more doable than the journey from Bear.
Lol. That was my friend. Said I looked like a douchebag. 😄 But I still like them! (This was actually an older trip/video before I lost them. But I'm really contemplating getting another pair!) Yeah, we should have probably suck to the original plan, but from what we saw from land, it still looked pretty thick in there.
Seeing this reminded me that we were thinking of bushwhacking across Philip Edward from Solomon's Bay to Mill Lake. It has to be easier than this trip, right?
This trip was from a few years back and it was my first year with a drone. So the thought didn't cross my mind then, but yes, it would have definitely helped!
Would it be easier to pull a canoe with the kind of harness they use for pulling tobaggons or a dead deer out of the forest?instead of pulling like a wagon
It could. We actually have tried many different methods on different trips, and quite frankly depending on terrain, distance, etc some work better than others.
You’re honest at least! The pike Shawn caught can be eaten, just let it be said. It’s even quite good. We ended up grilling an even smaller one, skin down for the most part, after trying to make filets out of one at that size and ending up with only pieces. And the upside of such small bones is, they’re so soft they’re not a danger. Picking bones out between your teeth may not be everyone’s taste, but trying to save on rations we don’t bring much meat, so it was plenty good enough for us. But not do we bring any cast iron, so we have little to prove… And yes, unless it’s just too crowded I greet people I meet on my way. Not greeting people, conversely, is the urban “there’s just too many people so no reason to bother”. If there’s few enough people and they’re up to it I’ll have a chat with them, which can also be a good idea from a safety perspective. You can get some good hints along the way and there are people who’ll know where you are and where you’re going. (And yeah, I changed the name of the channel. Ut På Tur here. Life got in the way and while I may take some time off for tripping now and then there’s no time for editing, and I needed something to reflect those lesser ambitions.)
I'm sure the pike could be eaten. Here in North America, there is a general aversion to eat pike as people prefer Walleye. I've eaten pike many times and enjoy it. Although often when people catch pike to eat, they prefer bigger ones. I agree. If there are few people, I have no problems engaging with them. It's courteous I think, although many like to avoid people as this is their time to be alone. Ah, I see! Enjoy your trips!
@@ThePursuitofPassion Here in Norway as well. But rivers are often pretty bony here, and our canoeing ambitions go more towards flat water. Pretty often it’s just backpacking and fishing, and with an already heavy pack you’re happy for what you can find. Pike is surprisingly good, despite its bad name. It has a taste much like cod, and the trouble is entirely its many thin bones. So pike does deserve a better name, I’ll say!
that's why i prefer travelling by helicopter and occasionally kayaking for fun.... hmm... thinking that he should invest in a drone so he can send it up to scout his zone
@@ThePursuitofPassion that was weird .... i was watching it a second time a year or so later and I noted 7:30 your comment about drone footage... yep i changed my name and what are the odds i got myself a DJI Mini 2 for Christmas... now I'm missing the paddling season....stiil hurts to watch you guys struggle through that swamp... ... should have went to Wiki to consult with guide before tempting luck...
Quote: there will be a little bit of bushwhack 🤣 One day you'll be pushing the emergency button as your partner is beating you with a paddle😂 See you next week🍻
Looked like a good workout! 💪
😂 Oh yeah, it was!
Oh my goodness David! What a terribly difficult day. Nothing but admiration for your perseverance!
Thanks Cliff! It certainly pushed the limits of what is possible in a canoe. More like, 'with a canoe'. 😆 Certainly a bit nutty.
@@ThePursuitofPassion “with a canoe” LOL 😂

Wow, you guys are good natured and STRONG!
Good natured yes, strong? We had no choice! 😂 Me and my route choices...🤦♂️
So sad there wasn't a nice cold High Life waiting for you two and the end of that trek! Way to go Lads.
If only, eh Larry? That would be a godsend! 😄 Alas, the search for open water continues! Thanks Larry!
Best thing I learned from this video is where NOT to go. Rough times for you but helpful to the rest of us, bravo to both of you.
😆 You bet! Definitely not recommended. 😁 Welcome!
Thanks for sharing
Anytime my friend!
Wow! Been following your canoe trips for a while now. This one is shaping up to have a lot less paddling than the others! Bet y'all were sore after all that dragging.
😆 It was challenging to say the least! Being used to this stuff, I was okay, but Shaun definitely took a hit! 😬

Been there before. That's a tough slough. But good to see you two still can laugh about it.
Nice! It sure was, and we pulled it off as friends! 😄

😄 Sure. That's what I have everyone believe. We may need a reunion Shakwa River trip!
David. I have to agree with you. You had a very bad idea. LOL....
😂 Indeed!!!
Why not use the drone as a scout? Just wondering. Love the trip so far.
This trip was from a few years back and it was my first year with a drone. So the thought didn't cross my mind then, but yes, it would have definitely helped!
yep, that's what I thought also. Worst thing would've been, dragging beside a floatable something nearby, but not recognicing it.
😄👍🏻
In your defence, you have had some good ideas as well.
😁 Thanks bro! I think so too. 😉
